A top-of-the-line puzzle game to this day.

The spritework is lush and gorgeous, bringing Lip and friends' fairy world to life in style. The music is memorable and charming. And of course, the gameplay: it's a brilliantly intuitive tile-matching game with a very precise and gradual difficulty curve. It gets the "low skill floor, high skill ceiling" angle totally right while being consistently encouraging to the player.

Seriously, you should play this game if you haven't. You can play the game in Japanese on NSO, and there's also a translation patch out there.

Without a doubt my favorite Puzzle game.... even though honestly I am not really into a lot of them, but for what I know this game has a lot to offer even compared to other similar titles on the market: Single player campaigns of different types depending on the chosen characters (not that different among each other but still pretty solid), really fun versus mode, and a really charming artstyle and OST. All great features that make the title incredible replayable.
The objective of stacking 3 blocks together is simple and easy for everyone, but the mechanics and progression can add a lot of depth to it and bring to a lot of personality in the playstyle of each player.

It’s a game able to be cozy and a good comfort food, but also fun and chaotic if played with friends. Really great game, I totally get why it's considered a big classic!

Choosing to play Panel De Pon over Tetris Attack really says something about a nigga

Played this on the nintendo online thing because it was in another language and looked cute and you know what? It was cute as hell!! And the gameplay was really fun too, if you can navigate all the japanese menus

Not sure if this is better than Meteos for me, but this might be pretty much the perfection as far as puzzle games go, it's premise of matching 3 icons is so simple, yet so understandable for everyone, but has many depths and tricks for hardcore players. You can play this game in any way you want, it works great both as a charming stress reliever you play every now and then, and as a fast paced, challenging game. But of course star of the show is the presentation. I'm not an anime guy, but i adore 90's anime style so much, and this game's aesthetics and character designs captures that style so well, with gorgeous spritework for it's characters and backgrounds. Soundtrack is also pretty darn good, it's sometimes super cozy and relaxing, and sometimes really energetic and pumping, and nails both of these vibes pretty well, just like the game itself
Scott The Woz is the GOAT for constantly praising and making me play this game alone

An adorable cute puzzle game. Without this one no Pokémon Puzzle League and different variants.

Been playing off and on for the last couple of months whenever I've had some free time and I've had a blast.

A variation on the match 3 game, Panel de Pon might be most well known for its western version, Tetris Attack. While I haven't played Tetris Attack, the most obvious differences between that and it's Japanese equivalent is the aesthetic. Panel de Pon goes for the tried and true Japanese puzzle aesthetic of magical girls, each one representing an element, season, biome, etc. The pixel art is impressively detailed when it has to be and the character designs are all stand out in a Sailor Moon type way.

The gameplay is fun and addicting, just enough challenge to be engaging despite not changing the formula throughout the game. There is multiple game modes but the VS (which acts as the campaign mode) is my favourite, each level themed after one of the magical girls. If you're not super into match 3 or puzzle games of that sort, this probably won't be for you but if you like that sort of thing (or enjoy Tetris Attack), this is a strong recommend.

4/5

Honestly, I get why they rebranded this game when they released it here in the states, but I'm honestly surprised to see it with more content compared to it's western counterpart. Although Tetris Attack did have more aesthetic features than Panel de Pon. Regardless, for a SNES/Super Famicom game this puzzle game had a lot going for it. Single player campaigns for limited moves, VS. mode, and Marathon mode. While each campaign isn't too different, gameplay wise, it at least makes for a lot of replayability.

Still Panel de Pon is kinda shockingly simple and intuitive puzzler. You basically just move 2 adjacent blocks horizontally to do a match of 3 - 5, and do your best to make combos out of the falling blocks. It works for those that can't rightly perform on a timer, but can maximize profit if they are able to see the whole picture. Not to say this doesn't have some stressful timed situations, but comparatively to Tetris, it has all the information on the board immediately.

To add to that Panel de Pon just as a really nice style and character design that I feel hits the sailor moon vibes of the '90s. Even the backgrounds have a certain pop to them that just feels very warm and pleasing to the eyes. While I can't say the soundtrack made much of an impression on me, I will say that it's rather poppy in it's tune. In lesser words, this game just feels girly in a really nice way. Which also kinda makes me sad because a lot of '90s gamer girls just didn't get to experience this in the states.

I think the tragic thing here is not Panel de Pon's game, but rather the consistent cover up the west does to get rid of this series. First we had Tetris Attack, then Pokemon Puzzle League, and now the mediocre, Puzzle League. It sucks because this game is rightly charming in it's own right, and the gameplay itself is already a hit with people. I think it's time we started getting more love for Lip and her crew and we actually get more charmingly cute girl games from big developers. As for this games first outing, if you like puzzles and cute girls you'll have a good time.

It fuels me with rage the way no other game has

Tetris killer.

It's a well-made puzzle game. I'm not a fan of the art style.

Unlike Puzzle League, i find panel depon to be charming even if i can't read any of it.

The difficulty is a lot more balanced and while child me wouldve scoffed at it, adult me finds it endlessly addictive.

i only wish you could flip panels vertically as well as horizontally...

Pretty fun puzzle game for the SNES, probably the best original one on the platform.

Remember when people wanted Lip for Smash?

Played on Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online, but only out of curiosity; it failed to hook me in, so I do not plan to return to this game.

Game has a very silly aura and is fun with buddies. It's small and simple so there's not much to complain about.

been playing a bunch of this lately and i'm having a blast. it's addictive in all the right ways that the best puzzle games are, and the art style and art direction is really charming and cute. the music goes ham, too.

Love these types of vs puzzle games, it’s a shame all the charm was destroyed in its transition to Tetris Attack :(

I've beaten this one in very hard, and is my biggest acomplishment and the hardest thing i did in my life after reading Heidegger for the first time

Panel de Pon is for real men. Came for the girls, stayed for the music and puzzles.

I give Panel de Pon a 7!

i wanna be better at this game!!! it's got puzzles and girls!!!!

Fantastic and addicting puzzle game. Fun alone or with friends.

The design is beautiful, the fairies have charming magical girl designs with cute names and content. The OST is very whimsical and the scene is just very immersing and gets you into the game. I don't know what else to say aside from the fact that it's just gorgeous and fun.

250 hrs rn :')

Fun puzzle game! It's the same as Pokemon Puzzle League, if you're familiar with that. It's all about moving panels that are already in place, switching their spots and creating rows and combos. As far as puzzle games go, it's a good one.
