Must cross the water to whatever the hell it's called

Pokémon Silver Version was a revolutionary sequel in the franchise, taking everything that worked in its predecessors and amplifying it. The day/night cycle added new depth to exploration and battles, while the inclusion of two regions and 16 gym badges made for an incredibly long and satisfying adventure. Breeding and held items introduced a complex layer of strategy, shaping the competitive scene for years to come. Pokémon Silver Version remains a beloved classic and one of the best handheld RPGs ever made.

This game was life changing to me as a kid. It was so massive and the cultural impact of Pokémon felt like it was at its peak when this came out. What an incredibly fun game. Based af

I lost my save file when I was like 10 because the internal battery died. I had a level 100 Kadabra that I couldn't evolve because I couldn't trade with anyone. It is the first time I have ever known true heartbreak.

Não é necessário jogar isso quando ce tem a versão crystal que é basicamente uma melhoria.

5/10 Mediano

Game Freak just doesn't make 'em like Gen 2. Johto is great to explore by itself, but incorporating Kanto, even in the middling way they went about it, just blew my mind when I was little. And that absolutely apexed with the fight against Red. What a moment. Pokémon Silver packs an undeniably strong nostalgic punch for me.

My first handheld Nintendo game. I was absolutely hooked even though I had no idea what I was doing. Sadly, I was frustrated with the slow pace of the game when I tried replaying it many years later. But that won't change the special place this game holds in my heart, and how awesome the music and pixel art are - still among my favorites.

My first Pokemon game; a friend shared it with me and a third, and none of us bothered to level up anything other than our starter, Totodile. It was a good time.

First game I ever had on gameboy. This game was basically my whole personality in 3rd/4th grade. Such an improvement over the first gen too.

mysterious region, lot to like here

Back in the day i didn't believe that this game has both Johto and Kanto, besides, Totodile best Water Starter.

Pokemon demônio very funny hihihi

Nostalgic and this time a lot more vibrant. God, I miss those more mindless times. Johto remains a beautiful place.

Lugia and Houndoom's design shaped my aesthetic preferences for the rest of my life and I am happy for it. Also the first game I played as a child that implemented character development through game mechanics

Top 15 greatest game of all times

Will always hold a special place in my heart

Feralligator saved my ass countless times and I had a much more well rounded team this time around compared to Pokemon Gold.

Not my fav game in the series. Kinda unbalance, gym options limited, post game while cool feels haphazardly put together

my first game ever and it's the best pokemon

Mareep is in this game and that makes it a good game.

The 2nd generation of Pokemon is considered by many to be the greatest generation. The main reason behind this, from what I can tell, is the amount of content the games have. The player can explore 2 whole regions as opposed to one, and this leads to many hours of additional gameplay compared to the other entries in the franchise. In my personal opinion, Pokemon Gold & Silver are slightly overrated, but they're still decent games nonetheless.

As mentioned previously, these games have a good deal of content in them. However, they're not THAT much more content-filled than the other Pokemon games. In reality, Johto is the smallest region in the Pokemon franchise, and the Kanto of this generation is not as big, nor as filled with as many NPCs, as the Kanto of Generation 1. As a result, it's possible to clear Kanto (by that I mean battle all the trainers and gym leaders, obtain a decent number of Pokemon, obtain all the items, and talk to all the NPCs) in just a couple hours. This is primarily because the battles can be blazed through as the opposition isn't very high-leveled. The Gen. 1 games took about 15 hours for me to clear, while these games took about 24 hours to clear. So, to summarize, there is a good amount of content in these games, but they don't require anywhere near a hundred of hours of gameplay to fully explore.

The weakest aspects about these games, in my opinion, are the region and the new Pokemon roster. Both of these aspects can be accurately described with one word: lackluster. They're both very small. Furthermore, a lot of the new Pokemon of this generation kinda suck. There are a lot of baby Pokemon and a lot of Pokemon that remain unevolved (in crappy forms) until later generations (particularly generation 4). As a result, it's sometimes really hard to build a good team of purely Johto Pokemon with good variety and type coverages.

Unfortunately, a lot of the problems of Generation 1 persisted in these games. Some examples are the PC boxes and item section of the backpack getting filled up. You do get a phone call from Bill to notify you when the former happens, but it's still really annoying to go back to the Pokemon Center for stuff like this all the time.

Also, the level-up curve of these games is pretty bad. Despite going through 2 full regions here, you'll be lucky if your entire team of 6 Pokemon are at least level 50 by the end of it. It's really annoying that most of the trainers in these games have really low-level Pokemon compared to yours. It makes these games a bit too easy. Like, why do all the non-Gym leader trainers in Kanto have Pokemon in the 20-30s levels range? You just beat the champion with a full team of nearly level 50 Pokemon. It's very strange.

The story is... fine, I guess. Team Rocket is back, and they have a bit more depth to them. Sure, their motivations are kinda stupid here, but they have a bit more personality, especially compared to the Gen. 1 games. A good example is the Rocket Grunt who steals the Power Plant generator part. I think the big arc with them that begins after capturing shiny Gyarados and ends at the top of the Radio Tower is okay. It involves lots and lots of grunts with crappy, under-leveled Pokemon, but I don't mind it for what it is.

I think the music's pretty good overall. Some of my favorites include the music of Vermillion City, Viridian Forest, the Lance/Red battle, the Kanto gym leader battles, Victory Road, and the Rival battle. It's definitely a more solid soundtrack than Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow's soundtrack, in my opinion.

The best parts about these games, in my opinion, are the new mechanics. Day/night cycles somewhat bring Johto to life, and held items give battles in this game a bit more room to be interesting. Battles don't feel as monotonous anymore, especially considering the fact that the AI is much better.

In conclusion, I think Pokemon Gold & Silver are decent, enjoyable games that led the franchise a good couple of steps forward. I just wish these early Pokemon games made their stories & characters more compelling and interesting, and I just wish the developers put a bit more effort into the new Pokemon roster and region.

If you want to play Pokemon I don't think any entry will disappoint you. Level curve is horrible, a lot of the new Pokemon are weirdly difficult to get a hold of, and most of the game completely lacks a story, but it has phenomenal postgame and rebalanced the first games very well for the most part.

Again, It's aged pretty poorly but it's incredibly ambitious for its time. The gen has some of the best designs in the franchise and it's so expansive and fun. Wish they didn't lock the only new Ghost type behind post game though!

Pokemon Gold, but Silver!

I give Pokemon Silver a light 8!

As much as I feel like Heartgold and Soulsilver are vast improvements of Gen 2, I have a soft spot for one of the first games where I really started to get immersed in video game worlds rather than just have them be digital sandboxes. Johto definitely suffers from having a shrunken Kanto stuck to it, as commendable is it is to have two regions in one game. But given how quickly the Johto segment of the game is over, Kanto hardly feels like "The meatiest postgame" so much as it just feels like The Rest of The Game.

Still, it's one of the most atmospheric Pokemon games and it definitely has a vibe not even its remakes have.
