Now this is what I was looking for in a Pokemon game. A decent story that tries to have actual characters and themes, a cool region with interesting locations and a season system to add more visual variety, and an acceptable amount of challenge. It's not a major innovative entry, but it's a great effort in refining what the series was already working with. I also respect the game for forcing you to work with the introduced Pokemon, makes for a unique experience when you're not relying on the same staples between games, even if Unova does have one of the overall weaker Dex's.
This is one of my favourite games, and my favourite game in the franchise, I might be kind of biased because it was also my first videogame ever, so i will try my best in being as objective as possible.
First of all, it had quite a big and interesting region, most of the pokemon designs were really cool, even though if some were garbage (quite literally), the animations and especially the sprites were probably the best part of the game and the peak of the franchise in that sense.
The story here was better than in the previous games, but i think that doesnt mean much considering the levels we had before, so I dont consider the story especially good at all, although it has really epic parts and I like how the gym leaders actually play a role in the story and the villains are truly evil / have a reason to act.
Something this game also has, which i respect a lot, is the will to only show us regional Pokémons until we finish the game and then we can access all the Pokédex, allowing the game to also have a pretty interesting post game.

To start things off, I am not a big pokémon fan. I grew up with the games, but as I got older, I got into different RPG's, and started to find pokémon pretty boring in comparison. Pokémon is that thing that exists within everyone. It's a multimedia giant. Everyone has a favorite, and I see why this is such a beloved game now.
I think I struggle with the gameplay loop. Nobody really strategizes in Pokémon. Just attack and heal. Discard any of those buffs, you aren't gonna use them. That aside, the game excels in style, story, and characters.
I think this gen got a lot of flak when it came out for its pokemon designs, but I think they're some of my favorites. Everyone is too mean to vanillite and klink! Everything about this games style is unmatched, I'm afraid we won't see anything like it again. From the fixed cameras to the dynamic season system, theres a lot of world to see.
B&W is all about opposition, choice, and ideals. It's a strong take on how Pokémon are percieved, and how they belong in the world. It's great because you can understand the villains motives, but you can find truth in your own, as well. There's two sides to a coin, and not everything is all black and white.

As biased as I am for Gen 4, Gen 5 is the absolute peak of the series. It is the best.
The story, to start is the best of the franchise. A villain team with a plausible, coherent and valid explanation and motive. A great villain that is memorable but human. The rivals are more like your friends this time and you have a real connection to them. The gym leaders are great.
The presentation is perfection here. The combination of 3d camera movements and 2d sprites creates such a striking style. I love all the new Pokemon. It was ambitious to make a new batch and remove the old ones but it really worked.
It has excellent music and a truckload of content.
A lot of these are present in the sequel as well. But this is an excellent and wonderful experience start to finish.
