I can't tell if this is the worst game in the remake trilogy or if I've just forgotten how basic the prior two were.

If memory serves, Tomb Raider (2013) as a "gritty reboot" for the series humanizing Lara Croft and giving context to her development as the titular grave robber/action badass mostly works! Rise of the Tomb Raider was Uncharted 2 with some minor open world stuff which mostly works! Which leaves Shadow of the Tomb Raider as... Uncharted 1 but with... less charm? It feels like a strange step backwards for the series that seemingly had some renewed momentum in the 2010s.

The game is gorgeous. The 15ish-hour adventure features some staggering environmental scale and especially impressive use of lighting to highlight beautiful overlooks of the Amazon. The production value of this game is the main sell. Unfortunately that admittedly impressive veneer is thin and frail. The beautiful world feels far from realized.

There are effectively four characters: Lara, her extremely patient sidekick Jonah, a proxy for the indigenous people that I wished was more interesting, and a very generic villain who kind of makes Lara look like a villain by comparison. None of the characters develop in a meaningful sense. Lara and Jonah are the only two who have anything close to a personality in the first place. It's a bummer because the game's opening section presents this tension of Lara getting in too deep--losing herself to her mission of hunting insert evil group. She's pushing so hard that she's hurting herself and those fighting to love and care for her. Neat! Make your invincible protagonist painfully aware of the toll of being an action-adventure murder machine. There's opportunity for growth here.

That doesn't go anywhere. lol There's a moment in the late game that seemingly implies that Lara was right all along, she's the only one capable of enacting meaningful change in this world, and the civilians around her need to deal with that fact or get out of the way.

I don't hate this game but it's really disappointing because it comes from a fun franchise, has a ton of polish, and stands as one of the latest steps in this style of blockbuster adventure game. It manages to feel like the most dull take on the genre at this scale in some time.

I'm open to critique here. If you liked this game, tell me what I'm missing!

Took me a few years but I love this game sm now 😭
The stealth sections are just too good

and the hairtie doesn't break?

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has a lot of Visual Spectical and not much else. It is fun to slip into a trance and just follow the level-design when pacouring/climbing and be swept away by the impressive visuals this game has to offer. But if u stop and think, suddenly you realise that you are a british girl with no achiological training destroying hundreds of important cultural sites in the name of what ever "greater good" u serve at the moment. i would really have liked to see lara more confrontet with the harm she causes and use the interest and knowlege she obiously has for something productive. all in all fun setpieces, hypnotic platforming, sometimes jawdroping visuals, with combat that exists and a bad story. So if you can turn your brain of and like smashing action dolls together this is perfect but then your brain switches on again and u realize that there is no coherent story ,characters dont get any development and nothing makes any sense. but look at this nicely renderd and framed temple or explosion.

DLC: mostly useless, but i enjoyed the haluzination sequence. it was well thought out and had great presentation. could have gone on for longer.

PS: I played on "One with the Jungle" Difficulty and it was very doable. so i wouldnt go lower if u are somewhat confident because otherwise lara feels less like an action hero and more like a super hero.

By far the worst of the new trilogy.

从日本到西伯利亚再到中美洲,三部曲的编剧仿佛在拿着同一个剧本做填空题。

This one actually surprised me. Loved the overall vibe.

A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, even if it wasn't as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The characters were incredibly fleshed out and interesting. I don't know much about Mesoamerican and South American mythology (I am from the region, but we only learn the basics in school, unfortunately), but it feels like Aztec, Mayan and Inca culture were well-researched. I'm not sure how to feel about the "mashup" that happened in regards to the cultures, however. It's not my place to make a judgement of that, but I did not like it.

I will, however, applaud the daring of the developers in lampshading Lara's heritage (her literal heritage as a fictional character, and the baggage she carries as the protagonist of the series) as a colonist.

Her thirst for revenge and her British thievery finally catch up with her, as she faces the consequences of both of those for the first time in this new trilogy: she unleashes a chain of events that could end the world. For the first time, she has to fix the problems she causes, and she has to look outside of herself to do it.

It coudl've done some things better, like the pacing of the story (too slow at times), but all in all, it was alright.

The Black Sheep of Tomb Raider.
Unfortunately it's indeed the weakest game in the trilogy but it's still a pretty fun game, just lacks the charm and the things that made the previous games iconic.

The game repeats itself many times, you'll climb and swim a lot in this game... A LOT, to the point where I got exhausted. There are barely any gunfights, most of the game is either exploring or killing enemies from the shadows, and the pacing felt weird, it takes way too long for the game to pick up which is a shame because the core gameplay is great.

The story is nonsensical, but I enjoyed the dark atmosphere. The issue is, for the last game of a trilogy, it doesn't feel like a proper closure, it's just another adventure similarly to the previous games.

The best part of this game is definitely the exploration, the puzzles are even better than before, and the game mostly focuses on raiding tombs instead of fighting hordes of enemies. There are also actual side quests you can do, which are kind of boring but I don't mind them.

I've got to admit though, even with the weak narrative, this game contains the single best moment in the entire trilogy in my opinion, Lara Croft's development really shows here, and yet again, she is the star of the show.

Overall, I like this game but it could've been better.
It has some strong moments, but sadly the lack of innovation is disappointing.

Final Rating: "Almost Good" ~ 6.5/10.

First of all, special thanks to Square Enix for providing the Steam key for the Croft Edition.

The game is better compared to its two previous reboot games when it comes to design, world exploration, and gameplay mechanics, but not better when it comes to story. Tomb Raider 2013 had such a great start with potential, but Rise of the Tomb Raider and this one only disappointed me.

The maps are larger. It includes aquatic exploration, the puzzles are more complex, and Lara is more mature and cunning.

Although the story disappointed me a bit, the game itself exceeded my expectations on several levels.

I can only hope this franchise gets better in the next games.

This entry got back to the level of the first reboot game in my opinion. Solid gameplay, nice upgrades available.

This is a great way to finish the trilogy, my main gripes are 2 fold. One: i wish this wasnt a trilogy i want more of this lara games. Two: the big bad that was introduced in the second game was rushed and finished off screen. It was anticlimatic and felt like the concept of this big bad was rushed and they could have done the trilogy as three stand-alone adventures.

and the hairtie doesn't break?

Am almost done with the game but so far so good

Ну нормик, визуально красиво очень, сюжет ну пойдёт, сайды хуйня

Honestly, this has my favorite locales out of the entire reboot trilogy. I think I enjoyed this one more than Rise, though Tomb Raider 2013 is, I think, the best overall. Regardless, I can't deny that this figures out a lot of what the series was trying to do, mechanically. Probably the smoothest experience, and the most fun to actually play. It's also really beautiful. For a minute, I thought game visuals had plateaued, but between this and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I realize now that I had spoken too soon.

I enjoyed parts of the story, but it does feel like a pastiche of several ideas stitched together. It was also a little funny that Lara is forced to consider both her privilege and behavior throughout both this game and Rise, uses her orphaned status an excuse, yet walks away from that conversation unchallenged. I don't really expect these games to have meaningful writing, though it's a bit hilarious how it's really close to having a great moment, but quickly crumples it and throws it in the bin.

Story is the worst, but the gameplay is probably the most fun of the three. A lot more options in combat which were cool, even though a lot of the best stuff you don't unlock until right at the end where you barely get use of out of them. It felt the most Indiana Jones-y of the trilogy for some reason, which is something I adore.

Que fechamento desse franquia. Adorei a estório e como a lara evolui.
Recomendo a todos jogarem.
