The kind of platformer that makes me love platformers. Creative and fun with challenging level design and a touching, tragic story

This is some great DLC. Probably the best part of it is how fluid and fun it is to control Spector Knight. I just had so much fun being in control of the character and playing with everything associated with him. the levels are also really cool because they're prequels to the OG game's levels, and that becomes interesting, especially with the bosses. A great free DLC.

I really enjoyed this, but it didn't stay with me as strong as the other two I played. I think things leaning this far into "serious" took me out of things. Still great and satisfying as ever.

genuinely fantastic platformer with a surprisingly emotional story. i don't think enough people have played this one. after the hype died down from the original shovel knight this game really has not been talked about enough nor given the attention it deserves. everything about this game is beautiful and it is full of personality, charm, and damn good level design.

I have not played any of the other Shovel Knights but this one is one of the best games I've ever played.

otimo jogo retro, um dos melhores

Really enjoyed playing this game, it felt really smooth and the game was just the right amount of difficult however at some points the game had a bit of artificial difficulty with enemies being made to block you and throw you off an edge. Not a bad design but it annoyed me.

this game is like a pack of hot chips- it doesnt last long but it has a really spicy edge that keeps me coming back. the best out of the shovel knight saga for sure, and specter knight's design appeals to me probably way too much

definitely the easiest of the four campaigns, but that doesn't take away from how fun it is at all! the story is particularly fantastic here, taking itself more seriously but in a very fun way. specter knight's move set is amazing, his slash feels so satisfying and his little wall hop thing has saved my ass more times than i can count. still sad polar knight didn't get his own expansion pack, but i digress. probably my favorite shovel knight game. if shovel knight ever gets a direct sequel, i hope we get to check up on Donovan

A prequel to both Shovel of Hope and Plague of Shadows? Count me in! However this time they have it down to a tea! This time it's a tragic story with a complete overhaul in the level design AND levels! Complete with Specter knight who has a unique moveset, my favorite to play as too, that is so fun to blaze through levels! I think this is their greatest update to Shovel Knight!

The best shovel knight campaign.

holy fucking shit this is awesome

even though it's an expansion, specter of torment really brings its own flair and switches up the gameplay quite a bit from the original. the maps might have the same layout, but they've been totally reworked to fit this new dynamic movement style. i'll admit, i don't like this movement approach so much, but they've actually executed it quite well. once you get the hang of this campaign, things start falling into place. the specter of torment mechanics make it noticeably easier to handle combat situations and slip in and out of fights. but don't mistake my point, it's still a strong campaign that adds an intriguing new layer to the story.

certified fucking gas. improves on almost everything they got right in the original shovel knight - awesome music, a great story for its length, and mostly perfect level design (-1/2 star for the tinker knight autoscrollers though). i think my biggest problem with shovel knight was that he controlled like total shit sometimes, but DAMN is it satisfying to do absolutely ANYTHING with specter knight. this is nothing short of an immaculate platforming experience.

Out of the 4 expansions you get with the base Shovel Knight this is definitely the most quality one, everything down to like the story of Specter Knight, the gameplay, and how it's all structured makes this one that all fans should check out. It's short and sweet, perfect for playing right after finishing the base Shovel Knight campaign.

GREAT time i kissy the game

This campaign is so good! Specter Knight is so fun to play as and the gameplay is fast paced and smooth!

It's so satisfying chaining aerial hits on enemies and getting through the levels are fast as possible. The story is also really interesting and the characters are all just as charming as ever! This is peak shovel knight and anyone who loves 2D platformers should play this!

Specter Knight's controls feel a little clunky at first, but using the Dash Slash felt extremely cool. Rail grinding feels a little underutilized and I really missed having basic levels in between bosses. The story never grabbed me like in the first two campaigns, except for the big emotional ending, which I wish was spaced out more before the finale. Despite my minor gripes, its more Shovel Knight goodness and I still loved playing it.

shovel knight, but you get to play as the badass ghost lad

also specter knight is unironically one of the most tragic characters ive seen in a while. i want to tell him everything will be alright.

this is my favorite of the shovel knight games, the way specter knight's scythe is implemented makes the gameplay extremely smooth and rewarding for making high risk decisions throughout every level of the game (which already comes naturally, but moreso with this game). all the details in the bar getting more customers, the armor knight recognizing who he truly is, and the recruited knights bantering with you after your battles, make the game feel alive and i love it. specter knight's character arc as we learn more about his struggle with selfishness vs companionship is awesome to live through, ummm also idk what else to put the tower minigame is fun but god DAMN the achievements are so insanely hard to get, like you have to master and i mean MASTER this game to get some of them, but uh yeah cool game ive played it like [5] times total (might change) so uuuuuuuuuuh ummmmmm its 3:31 am i gotta sleep hoooly

One of the most enjoyable 2D platformers I've ever played. The movement is super unique but incredibly fun, and the levels are perfectly designed around it. Every section of each level had me feeling great when I executed the platforming properly.

I was a bit worried that this wouldnt be good after not enjoying Plague of Shadows, but it honestly surpasses the base game in every way for me. My only real complaint is that I wish it was a little longer.

Shovel Knight's third campaign, Specter of Torment, follows the titular Specter Knight as he wrestles with his past while assembling the main game's villainous gang The Order of No Quarter. While the other characters are focused mainly on gameplay, Specter Knight's story is focused on its premise and lead character. There is much more dialogue this time, and the story is weighty and is less cliche and tropey than before. Specter Knight has his own unique control scheme. This time, your blade is your primary movement vehicle. With it, you can slash enemies or objects in air to dash across gaps. You also have an automatic wall run that can pull you up from ledges. The combination of these two moves makes many of Specter Knight's levels feel more parkour-adjacent than the more rigid platforming in King and Shovel's stories. I liked the open nature of the levels, you can tackle the familiar stages in any order after returning to the castle hub world. If you've played the Shovel of Hope story, it is very familiar. Much of the game is a remix of the original rather than a sequel, but the game's interstitials of story and general movement options makes this an important part of the Shovel Knight canon. While the wall-running led to some frustrating deaths, and all bosses become laughably easy, Specter of Torment offers a quick, meaningful revisit into the world of the Knights.

I completed this game atleast over 8 times already AND I LOVE IT! (Specter Knight my beloved)
