It's the roughest Skate game available, so I can't 100% recommend it. Lack polish but the depth of the physics and gameplay means you will sink dozens of hours into this game to nail tricks and complete some very difficult missions.

This one might be one of the best skateboarding games ever made. Revisiting it after all these years still blew my mind. Everything is so well crafter and cruising around trying to find new spots feels incredible. If I had to choose a game to play endlessly it would be this one.

(Not completed 100% but won all the major events, got the two magazine covers, and will definitely come back to it at some point.)

I think it's better than skate 3. Skate 2 is probably better, I'll have to find out

Une époque révolue où je sortais de chez moi pour faire du skate puis, je rentrai pour faire du skate.

One of the comfort games. Haven't played it in years.

Not a game for me to beat, but unlike Skate 3, you can do insane stuff on seemingly useless places. Though, not being able to walk can suck at times

Man, this is better, but I still hate myself and was intensely frustrating at times, I don't know skate terminology and when the game says to nasty that gap with your hog, i have to annoyingly look up what to do.

Una total declaración de intenciones que era buen juego incluso sin poder bajarte del skate. Muy divertido aun habiendo jugado al 2 y al 3 antes.

I played this at my friend's house a lot when I was younger.

In context, it's a 4 star for knocking THPS off its throne. Out of context it's a 3 star for not being as good as its successors.

Legitimately tweaking for the release of skate four so I had to play a worse skate 3

For practically pioneering a new type of skateboarding game, Black Box was able to nail a lot of ideas really well for their first outing and it's aged way better than I thought it would. It's been awhile since I've played the first but WOW this controls way better than what I remember. Sure, it's not perfect and you can't get off your board (which feels really weird considering how much I played Skate 3) but the trick system still feels decent enough to control, which makes it all the more satisfying when pulling off insane combos later into the game, though that can be a bit broken from time to time.

There’s not much to say about the story really, but I liked how open the rest of the world felt once you completed the tutorials. San Vanelona has a good amount of variety and being able to do the photo and video challenges anywhere you wanted was always a cool way to see if you can push a certain area for a good score/combo. These can start to be a little monotonous once you get near the end, but the other pro challenges, death race and S.K.A.T.E add some nice variety in-between, and since the control scheme is great to mess around in sometimes just skating around and seeing how long you can keep your line going for is a challenge which the game insentivises.

And aesthetically, it might be my favourite out of the three? The menus have this ‘cut-out sticker’ feeling to them which was never replicated in future instalments, and having the menu BE your backpack adds more to the style- something that Black Box have always been great at achieving. There are also some kick-ass song selections to go along with it and not only that but an original soundtrack as well?! which honestly surprised me how much it came up to par.

Many ideas here might be in their infancy and are fairly basic (especially the player customization and progression) but that doesn’t mean they’re bad by any means and Skate still feels fun to play even in 2024. I can’t wait to revisit the others as they build on the solid foundation that was made!

this game makes my mouth salivate

Talk about a game-changer. This gave a jab to the arm of a dying niche genre with totally unique and airtight gameplay, bringing a "realistic" style of movement that never feels slow or gets stale. There are plenty of challenges that take you through a fun story which echoes the rise to the top feeling of THUG, and it's an excellent start to the franchise.

Admittedly, I don't really have much memories with the first Skate game because all I remember doing in the game was just skating around and being weirdly obsessed with injuring my character in the most extreme ways.
But even with those memories and not really engaging much with the actual campaign, this game helped me understand the skating world since my brother was the skater in the family and I was curious on the appeal. I know other skating video games such as the Tony Hawk series came before Skate and were probably more refined, but for Skate 1 to be my first skating game, I think of it quite fondly.
Although, one thing that didn't sit right with me was the difficult learning curve in pulling tricks and whatnot. Even though that's kind of the point since skating itself is difficult to master, I still found it irritating at certain points. But, it didn't really matter because just skating without a purpose is why I enjoyed my time with this game regardless. :)

Blackbox reimagined skateboarding games and action sports games for the better.

The skating gameplay is fun and rewarding but the camera is awful and the progression isn't fun or meaningful

The beginning of a new skateboarding sim game era.

EA started to introduce the "flick-it" system where you, as a skater and gamer, have more control over your board. Every flip, grind and grab trick feels in control and linking them together gives a lot of satisfaction.

San Vanelona, which is a fictional city for this game, is mainly based off of San Francisco and Barcelona. With inspiration drawn from those cities, many unique spots have been made in this game which the community still holds dear to this day (2023).

From all kinds of challenges to just freeskating to some good music jams, this game has it all. No pressure to "continue" the game but play at your own pace.

Couldn't even get off your board but who cares

If you like motion inputs in fighting games then this is the game for you but instead of throwing a hadouken you'll do a pop shove it

The game that coined the term "party play" this was lots of fun doing spot battles and S.K.A.T.E. with friends. It also had that weird glitch where you could grab your board in the exact moment you land a jump and you would never fall!

Also that "Bam Bam Billa" song is stuck in my head ever since. Also "Every video Wa shaolin" which I always sang along as a child until I found out he actually singe "Everyday im husselin'"
