while i am pretty nostalgic to this game, it doesn't fix the big problems this game has. the control is ass, the physics are not physicing, the soundtrack is..not great, the artstyle is bad, the levels are terrible, and the boss fights suck. id rather play sonic 06 twice over this garbage

The worst 2D platformer ever made.

It was never made to be Sonic 4. It was supposed to be a mobile game but instead we are here. mid, but bad mid.

I had high hopes for this game, but it was so disappointing and shorter than most Sonic games. It also has some irritating difficulty due to the physics being downright poor. The music is fairly decent, but that can't save a poorly designed game.

I don't like the way the game looks or sounds, and the level design isn't the best and the zones themselves are uninspired. This game didn't deserve to be called Sonic 4.

I like platformers, they're by far, my favorite genre of all time, it's just so fun to have an insanely athletic character at your disposal to traverse various wacky enviroments, to the point where the physics of a character in any game, no matter the genre, is what makes or breaks a game for me.

Sonic 4 is a disgrace to humankind.
Yes i only played for 5 minutes. Yes i got this for free. But i don't care.
The controls are so fucking sluggish and abysmal that i could not even get past the second stage because i was just not having any fun at all. The game looks bad, it sounds bad, it controls bad. It's not unplayable, far from it. But is that really a compliment?
This is just a shitty mobile game blown up to an HD resolution and thrown to consoles, treated as a major release to bank in on the big retro boom of the 2010's.

The long awaited sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog 3 + Sonic & Knuckles is here!!

And it is a complete disappointment.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 (2010-2012) is a sick joke and a slap in the face to all Sonic fans around the world.

What should have been an amazing modern sequel is instead a complete cash grab and lifeless game presented to us.

Two episodic releases with a whopping 4 STAGES. Not to mention a TWO year wait for episode two.

This game is awful. It's bad. And it's not fun bad like Shadow The Hedgehog or even Sonic 06 when it works. This is boring bad. You get no enjoyment playing this game it's mid. It's literally mid. It's painfully average.

The art style and direction is terrible, it feels lifeless and empty. It reminds me of Super Mario Bros Wii but it just feels off here.

The soundtrack is generic and is not that good. It's okay. Gets the job done.

The animations are awful. They look terrible. And why does Sonic do this weird slow walk before actually running. Physics are also bad.

No redeeming qualities about this game, even episode 2 which seems slightly better can't save it.

This game is lifeless, has no replay value, and is quite frankly boring and forgettable.

Oh and also this game being on mobile and being marketed for it tells you everything you need to know.

I mean it's more playable than Sonic and the Secret Rings but at least that game was memorable and interesting even if the game itself was pretty bad, everything here is straight up boring.

Such a boring weak attempt to recapture the classics. This game is hella LAME.

a completely uninspired mess of a game. the levels are empty and just copies of previous levels, the bosses are forgettable, and the graphics look horrible. the homing attack is completely unnecessary and the soundtrack is mediocre at best. don't play it.

They never should have called this game Sonic 4.

Extremely bland 2D Sonic, Sonic Team appears to have not only learned nothing since Sonic 3&K, they actually seem to have forgotten things.

It’s just basic sonic 2d platforming

Ya' know what? The game is very bad, I've spend very little time playing it, and because of that there's something I didn't realize until now. This game's soundtrack is just straight up great. Like, if you have any interest in like, early synthesizer music, stuff like 70's-80's keyboard-heavy rock, or 90's PC MIDI stuff, this is absolutely a must-listen.

Don't waste your time playing it though. If anything it will make the music feel weaker; it genuinely feels like it was composed for a completely different game.

Ruim e enjoativo
+/- Gameplay ok com o "Homing Attack"
- Trilha sonora fraca para os "padrões da franquia sonic"
- Fases recicladas com péssimo design
- Special Stages horrorosos
- História genérica
- Chefões maçantes
Nunca jogue Sonic 4 👍

A Misunderstood Entry Due To Poor Marketing.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 is a short but sweet platforming game that was mismarketed as mechanically it plays nothing like the games its trying to succeed and can be pretty fun if you look at it as it's own thing more than a direct sequel of sorts.

The game is visually quite unappealing using a weird cell shaded look that doesn't look very good and the menus feel very cheap and overall you can tell this game is lower budget than others around its time,The controls are unironically the best part of the game here because it is still about maintaining speed the only thing that changed is the means to get it i.e homing spam sure it isn't momentum but it can be fun in it's own right, sadly it isn't perfect as homing attacking enemies will break all flow.My purposal for how they could've mitigated this is tapping the homing button perserves speed and holding cancels that could've made for some fun platforming and decision making but I digress the level design isn't great or bad just very mediocre offering little to no challenge and the boss fights are pathetic here.

Overall: An alright game all things considered but not much note worthy about it its basically very average and not really worth your time but if you want to time sink 1-2 hours go ahead and play it as thats all the time you will need for this entry and it isn't unfun just not groundbreaking.

Trivia:
The game's codename was "Project:Needlemouse".

Eh, I don't know why I thought this game was okay-ish back when it was released.
The physics are TERRIBLE, the game design has callbacks to the worst things in Sonic 1 and CD and it just shows that Dimps loves to toss you around into enemies. It's more like a memory game, once you know the stages by heart you can pull off some cool runs, but it's just so backwards compared to 2 and 3.
It's decent for a mobile game, but just comes off as a huge disappointment in the series. Word of advice: don't play this right after 3&K, you're gonna have a bad time!

Imagine in 2023 unironically thinking this is better than Sonic Forces.
