A disappointing followup to Dragon's Lair because it really doesn't try to build on the first game. Rather it's a slightly more annoying retread of a game that had come out less than a year earlier. John Mulaney should voice Dexter in a 44 minute Netflix short of Space Ace.

After the original success of Dragon's Lair, Don Bluth would go on to help create more games in a similar vein to that of Dragon's Lair, starting with the original Space Ace. So, for most of this review, I'm basically gonna be repeating what I said about Dragon's Lair, because, fundamentally, they are pretty much the same game.

Just like with Dragon's Lair, the animation, music, and voice acting are beautifully crafted, and this time around, since it is in a space setting, it has a lot more interesting visuals and wonderful action and imagery. And also just like Dragon's Lair, this game is just one giant quick time event, except this time around, it is actually worse than Dragon's Lair.

For all of the sequences in Dragon's Lair, they came at you at complete random, so every time you played, you never knew what was coming next, so you had to be prepared for anything. Here, however, everything happens in a linear sequence, meaning you will do all the same scenes in the same order, which means a lot of trial and error on stuff you have done before many times. It gets really repetitive and even more annoying if you aren't quick on the button pressing.

Now, I know it isn't fair to compare this game so much to Dragon's Lair, as they are two different games and should be treated as such, but since they both came out around the same time and have the exact same gameplay, I can't help but make the comparisons. I do prefer space settings over medieval ones, so I want to like this game more, but I can't say that with what we have here.

Overall, the game is still good and a fun time for those that put the time into it, but it is basically just a not-as-good Dragon's Lair without the randomness that made the original challenging and iconic.

Game #38

This is how colorblind people see the world.

This is a complete joke of a game.

I'm kinda shocked how easy this game is in comparison to Dragon's Lair I and II. Legitimately I'd suggest everyone to play this game in Ace mode if you can as any lower cuts some actions scenes and they are just too nice to miss. It's not as good with sequences as Time Warp is, but you also don't need to collect anything either so it makes for a rather simple game you can enjoy and not stress about. Sadly I don't think we'll ever get another Space Ace or Dan Bluth game for that matter, but these were a ride to playthrough, and I'd suggest anyone to play Time Warp or Space Ace as they are both good games (as long as you know where to get the treasures in Time Warp). The original Dragon's Lair is still pretty bad, but it at least paved way for these two gems.

All the problems I mentioned with Dragon's Lair are here but worse. Now they purposely made most decisions have ambiguous angles for the button presses and the reaction times are shorter in addition to excessive visual information. Sorry for complaining, Ori games, this crap takes the cake; Don Bluth's own Titan A.E. may be a pretty bland space adventure movie but at least it's visually readable... Those annoying and distracting continuity errors... The main character gets on your nerves too...

same thing i said about dragons lair

such a wonderfully animated game, but falls into the unfortunate FMV genre conventions of being shallow as a puddle when it comes to gameplay. If you like watching cool cartoons this is definitely something you should check out as well as don bluths other two FMV titles, but if you are expecting to PLAY the cartoon, you are prob gonna be a lil disappointed. Once you learn how to play the game all the way through, you can 1CC the whole game EZPZ

Exato mesmo conceito que Dragon's Lair, com a mesma excelente qualidade de animação e os mesmos terríveis problemas de design como jogo. Considero pior que o seu antecessor por ter um herói menos carismático e pelas irritantes animações do vilão a cada morte.

Dragon's Lair, but we're in space!

Same amazing animation. Same bullshit gameplay.

Better visually than Dragon's Lair but the same horrible gameplay
