This game gives me mixed feelings because it's suppose to commemorate the previous 4 games as you literally go through the worlds of the previous 4 games but it feels watered down due to fitting too much and not having enough space due to limitations? Also the whole going through various portals can be tedious and basically plays like Kirby & the Amazing Mirror... There is a completion progress and in order to get 100% you will have to go through each stage/world and portals... Thankfully the battle modes is solid.

nos 20 minutos que eu joguei eu vi minhas memorias serem destruidas, a dominação da inteligencia artificial nos designs de videogames, amigos antigos sendo destruidos, as memorias de tempos felizes desaparecendo, e um cachorro rindo de mim;

I just did not vibe with this game at all.

While I haven't really looked into it, it seems the 5th entry in this series is commemorating the Super Bomberman series in general: of the total 5 worlds, 4 of these represent past games' world.

SB5 takes on a non linear approach to levels, where completing each (which is back to the regular beat-all-enemies-to-progress format) opens up 2-3 teleporters, each of which take you to different levels.

I couldn't be bothered to keep count for each zone but after some levels you fought a boss, which are in the style of individual bomber fights rather than big boss battles. They kinda suck, they're just kind of a drag tbh and it doesn't help that I'm not all that fond of the antagonists' designs (they really did reach peak with the five dastardly bombers huh). The final boss is the only big boss battle in its first two phases, while being an individual bomber fight in its third phase (that you only fight if you're confirmed for good ending, which i'll get into later). It's alright, I don't really have much to say. Most of these boss battles also take place in arenas where you can fall off, which get really annoying when you're trying to run away but freeze cuz you're about to fall and need to pull yourself back up.

The first 4 zones represent the first 4 games respectively, reusing assets and sprites from them. That makes it a bit difficult to discuss the visuals of the game: the new sprites are most notable, they're nice looking. The last zone is entirely new graphics and they're also decent looking, just a bit of a shame you get to see them by the end of the game. Either way, they're pretty simplified levels. The music's also ok. A lot of hit and miss honestly.

I really am not fond of how the non-linear aspect was approached in this game. Once you start a level, you can't really exit to the map again so the only way is to reset and continue your save file. This makes progressing from level to level a lot of guess work, the main indicator being a teleporter's color (yellow for new level, black for old level) which isn't really much. It's expected to complete a run from what I can tell, and then keep replaying to 100% your save file. It's kinda annoying, I much just prefer being able to go back to the world map and working from there but alas. This non-linearity also affects what bosses you will fight, whiiiich affects what ending you will get. Honestly I was too uninterested to look up which boss or boss order leads to what ending.

Best thing I liked about the game was the Louies returning, better than ever and each with a distinct design and sprite animations. It was really cool. I wish finding Louie eggs was a bit more common but its more of a nitpick on my side.

Overall, uh despite my unorganized complaining lol it's still an alright game. I'll probably replay it someday because playing it immediately after the previous 4 probably caused burn out. It's still an alright bomberman time, just didn't click with me.

This game is a mix of all 4 past snes bomberman games, plus an all new final world. The final world actually feels like a whole bomberman game, with 5 different themes complete with unique enemies, gimmicks and music, and they are some of my favorite levels in the whole series, however actually accessing those stages is like trying to find yume nikki's white desert. The progression is non-linear, there are 100 levels and from the very first one they give you 3 possible paths that will get you to 2,6 or 9, but you never know where you will end up unless you use a guide, as the only indication the game gives is whether or not you have accessed those levels before.

Also the past worlds from the other bomberman games are really nerfed, which makes many levels feel like filler. Still, I give it 3.5 stars for the really fun battle mode with plenty of customization.

List of things wrong with this game:

CHEFE MUITO BOSTA E MAPA TBM KKKKKK

Isso aqui é só um mistureba dos mapa de todos os outros 4 jogos e com um vilão totalmente padronizado

Foi inferior aos anteriores mas ainda assim gosto muito.

this game feels so epic because you go over every other game!

Bomberman is a series of games that is its own genre, and the most impressive thing is the lack of copycats, or inspired “like” titles (such as “soulslike”). If you want to play a game of the Bomberman genre, your only option is to pick a Bomberman title.

For this reason I simply cannot leave at least one Bomberman title from my top 10, I cannot leave a whole good videogame genre away from it. That is why I decided the best bomberman game will be my #10 best game I have played, and this one is Super Bomberman 5.

[Good characteristics of the game]=================================================

1. Very big scope for a game in the Bomberman series, both in story mode and in Battle mode. The story mode can be rushed on and can take days to finish it all (and points for being non-linear). While the battle mode comes with many different modes, covering absolutely anything you may want to do, you can even personalize your own bombermans, both in terms of looks and power ups.

2. Bomber man bosses actually tries to win and play really really well. You will have a hard time fighting them; they are not braindead easy like the ones in Super Bomber Man 4.

[Bad characteristics of the game]==================================================

1. Only single-screen stages.

>> Contras
• Nenhum.

>> Perso Favorito = Bomber dog.

In being a love letter to the entire Bomberman franchise up to this point, this is the most safe Bomberman game ever, but is that really such a bad thing?

Super Bomberman 5 can hardly be called Super Bomberman 5. It's more akin to Super Bomberman 1 + 2 + 3 + 4, more than the sum of its parts. Everything to love about the previous entries is here. The snowy world complete with an igloo that has its top blown off to comedic effect. The rooeys of all different types, including the overpowered as hell pink one that literally cannot die if the mine bomb detonation button is mapped to the same key as the jump button. Several pieces of music including the iconic series' theme. It just goes on and on.

The story mode is an absolute behemoth in the best possible way. The player can easily obtain a normal ending by just playing naturally, or use a route map to 100% it through a million levels. It always feels like there's something more to play, even after 100%ing it. After all, the battle mode is one of the best in the franchise especially up to this point.

Want a regular match? Have the NES styled arena. Want to throw in snowboulders? Pick the ice level. Want to play a team of humans VS cpus? The tag system has everyone covered.

After the hilariously brutal dog boss, the story is honestly smooth sailing. There's no massive difficulty spike near the end like in 2 or 3, and there's no feeling that anything is insurmountable after losing powerups like in 4.

Super Bomberman 5 is an overly safe game. But sometimes, that's all you need for a rainy day. One of my ultimate comfort food games.

This is not Super Bomberman 5, this is Super Bomberman 1,2,3,4,5.

When I first finished this game I didn't like it, and obviously, I got a bad ending. My issues with the game weren't about the gameplay it was mostly just how the levels were presented and I thought it was annoying and confusing.
The game plays like your typical Super Bomberman but with stages more reminiscent of Bomberman '90 or Super Bomberman 1 with how simplistic they were, no weird gimmicks or anything it's just "Go kill all enemies and find the exit". Of course, there's nothing wrong with traditional Bomberman gameplay, the thing that bugged me was the fact that there was a total of 100 stages with each stage giving you multiple exits turning this game into a flowchart mess in the veins of a visual novel or for a Super Nintendo example, Umihara Kawase with its multiple stages leading to a different ending.
But then I realized it was actually pretty neat, you are not forced to play all 100 stages you actually only need to play less than 15 to reach the final boss with an optimal route, I guess one of my complaints with this type of flowchart design is that it's kinda annoying if you just want to get to the end, it's not really user friendly and doesn't give you a vibe of exploration it just feels like pure luck rather than something like a Metroidvania with multiple paths that you can visit and go back to.
This actually makes this game the best one for single-player wise, you've got 100 stages to tackle and each of them is nice, none of them really feels too unfair it's pretty well balanced.
But then something hits you, you realize that the stages feel somewhat similar, and then you realize that this game was made to commemorate the Super Bomberman subfranchise with each world representing its respecting entry with the fifth world being original, I always thought this kind of thing was really cool just like how Stranger Of Paradise Final Fantasy did it. But with Super Bomberman 4 only being released in Japan it made sense why this game also never left Japan. Oh, also Hudson took back the creating rights to Super Bomberman for the final entry which is pretty cool since Produce! made Super Bomberman 1,2, and 4.

But in good old Bomberman tradition, the bosses suck, it kinda bums me out with how great they were in Saturn Bomberman but I guess Hudson wanted to bring some bullshit back and made the both thrice as long as they should be with their humongous health bar, so yeah, they are not fun.

And it obviously came with the average multiplayer mode that comes with its side modes and whatnot, always a blast to play Bomberman in multiplayer regardless of the entry, but yeah this one doesn't make anything new mostly just more of the same from 4.

For someone who never plays Bomberman game this is just a decent Bomberman game, for someone who played all previous Bomberman games it really does feel special, thank you Hudson Soft.

In Spain this game is called Don Pepe y los globos 5.
