Super Monkey Ball Adventure tries to blend the core, addictive maze-rolling gameplay of the series with a platformer adventure. Unfortunately, the controls often feel imprecise and the camera can be frustrating, making platforming sections more tedious than fun. The traditional Monkey Ball stages are still enjoyable, and the minigames offer a good time, but the overall package feels disjointed and less polished than previous entries in the series.

What did they do to my balls?? I reeeaaally enjoyed rolling around an open map for an hour for every 10 minutes of actual monkey ball stages.

"Mom, can we get Super Monkey Ball?"

"Dear, We have Super Monkey Ball at home."

Super Monkey Ball at home:

Ragequit on the second world. Almost NOTHING felt right to me.

The controls are worse than fucking Monkey Ball Jr. It feels incredibly innacurate; you feel like you're slipping all the time.

Falling off/dying is a pain in the dick. You'll have to climb all the way back to where you were, and hope you don't fall there too, otherwise, you'll have to do even more work.

The challenge stages suck ass because of the controls. The level designs are also ripped straight from the original games.

Overall, this game just sucks. Don't play it.

This is a really good example of how sometimes forcing your player to explore an open world makes a game a lot worse.

No matter what region you are in the box art for this game is really something

I had this game as a kid and I hated it so much, dropped it at Moonhaven the third world. Years later I'm an adult and I decide to cave in and just go back and beat the game from start to finish.

Its not as atrociously bad as I remembered it being, but I don't think its good either. There's definitely some good in it, I love the 2D art of the characters, the original music is neat, challenge stages are fun, and I like the chants being used for powerups, minigames are solid, and some of the sidequests are fun.

But unfortunately alot of the good stuff this game does is heavily overshadowed by its negatives: alot of the missions are tedious, annoying, unclear to the player, Moonhaven is still horrible, the controls aren't as tight or good as the original 2 games (due to Adventure being developed by Traveller's Tale) I could go on but you get the idea.

It makes me sad cause this game definitely could've been something good had the devs been given more time to work on the game and iron stuff out, but unfortunately it had a deadline, had to be released on 6th gen consoles before the wake of the 7th generation.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend playing it, but that doesn't detract from the good stuff this game has going for it.

"It's not the ball that's super, it's the monkey inside" - a key line of dialogue, delivered during the secret ending you only get if you 100% this game.

This game isn't good, but I didn't realize people hated it as much as they seem to. I haven't played it in an extremely long time, so maybe I would feel the same way if I replayed it.

Holy fuck this game sucks. The powers are either useless, annoying, or both, the levels are a bitch and a half to navigate, the missions are either boring or awful, the only positive aspect is you get to play Monkey Ball every once in a while.

It doesn't even have a proper ending what the fuck.

"In this brand spanking new platform adventure, AiAi may look like your everyday Super Monkey. But he's got a secret weapon - HIS BALLS. They can burst into flames, turn wooden, become sticky - whatever it takes to stop the evil Naysayers and re-unite the 5 Monkey Worlds. His balls are big. But the adventure is enormous." - Actual advertisement for this game

this game...... man
big disappointment tbh
monkey ball and open world don't go together well at all
somehow they fucked up the rock solid gameplay as well
would have been better if they stuck with the original Monkey Ball engine

the designers for this need a death penalty

que dire? jeu légendaire. peut-être même le meilleur

PAL box art is funniest shit I've ever seen.

As a kid, I aimlessly explored this game's hub worlds rather than actually trying to progress through the story. I think that's the best way to describe its quality.

Do you completely hate yourself and want to get motion sickness simply by navigating through the level?

I enjoyed this game as a kid but that's probably because my older brother didn't let me play any of the other games :(

it was a sad period when this was the only monkey ball game i owned physically that worked and i couldnt emulate games yet

i dont think theres a single game series that understands less what its fans want from it than super monkey ball. geuinely pathetic.
what fucking emotion is aiai conveying on the cover i hate his face immensely. lust?

This was my first super monkey ball back when I was a kid, the reason I thought Super Monkey Ball sucked.

dude i love this game to death i had no idea people hated it until recently

really... really really bad. as a kid i liked this but mostly the challenge maps with the traditional monkey ball gameplay...
