The concept of fantasy changed after i played this one. Back in the day i have a lot of time, this title gave me so many hours, beating it normaly or abusing codebreaker just to increase the dificulty (yes you can with the right codes) and so many times i broke the game. The history is cliche, pacing is weird and how they tell its boring sometimes. The combat is the top notch of any of Tales of, the songs and the artstyle is lost in the past, one of the most beatiful 2D ever crafted by Bamco in the past.

The graphics are great and the characters are fun to just hang out with. But that's about all that I like. The pacing is abysmal, with many dungeons which are annoying and/or unnecessary. The plot is uninteresting. The mechanics didn't really click with me. A lot of the game's emotional beats seem to depend on you caring at all about Leon, and I sure didn't. He's a jerk with no redeeming qualities!

Massive improvement over the original. only complaint is that the last arc of the game's dungeons can go fuck themselves. combat is fire so def will replay at some point

My only complaint about this is that the towns are nowhere near as big as in the original, but other than that it's an excellent remaster with beautiful new graphics and expands on Leon's story.

Banger remake, takes the original Destiny experience and puts it on par with its successors. With the addition of actual skits, new character development scenes within the story, a new fluid combat system that demands preparation and proper understanding of its mechanics, Common Destiny. The only real downsides are the plot as it is the same as the OG which itself isn't bad just generic, and the overly long dungeons that made the endgame a nightmare to play through.
Very fun entry in the series but can be extremely difficult at times as it is a Team Destiny game lol.
Mad props to Life Bottle Productions for making the dream of an English translation come true!

The story is pretty straight forward, the cast have really nice designs and the colors mesh well together. There's a good amount of different and fun personalities in the cast. It's an older Tales game so the combat feels somewhat limited, the camera kinda messes up a lot in battle and you can't see what's going on sometimes. There's a lot of beautiful art in this game, Lilith is by far my favorite person to use in combat.

Aside from the filler second part of the game and Leon's death, everything else is great

Classic Tales where the opening and cast rules, but then utterly shits the bed in the second half in a way that I could not believe this was such an indemand translation for so long.

This game lost a point around the second half where it felt like they wanted to extend the game as much as possible and then the final dungeon is insanely tedious and not fun in the slightest to a point I can't call it a favorite despite how strong the first half was. I just wanted the game to end this is the worst end game dungeon i've played in a Tales game.

This game is really lopsided. The combat is absolutely fantastic, easily some of the best in the series. It's fast, flashy, challenging, a good cast of playable characters, and still takes thought to string together good combos. The dungeons and skill system are mostly decent too, so that's nice.

On the otherhand though, the story and characters are pretty lame here. On the characters end, the cast definitely has its highlights, but a few of them I honestly thought were either boring or pretty underdeveloped. Story-wise... Eh. It has its moments but its mostly really boring and the story's pacing in the second act is honestly pretty bad. A lot of the time I was just wanting to get back to the gameplay, but I wouldn't say it's bad either.

That being said though, the fact I gave the game such a high score really just shows how fun the core gameplay is. The game's worth playing for that alone, especially when compared to the PSX version.

Fantastic game! Some of the best combat in the series and every character was so full of life while also feeling great to play as. My only real issue keeping this from being a perfect score is even though I enjoyed the dungeon design and most puzzles were fun, this game had far more dungeons than what it needed, especially during the last half of the game. Final dungeon was longer than it should've been and the final boss themselves felt unbalanced though maybe I'm just bad at the game lol.

Beautiful... beautiful, just beautiful!
Cliche story and uninteresting villains, but the characters are so lovable, Stahn is just a dork normal character, but it is still amazing and makes me want to see his and Leon's interactions.

I LOVE this kind of 2D aestethics (and occasional 3D overworld). The cast is fun, no matter how "average shonen characters" can be (especially Leon), but Stahn will always remain an adorable dork for me.

Anyways: peak fast-paced 2D gameplay, 60fps, fun dungeons and exploration. It's a really solid and awesome Tales of game.

I put 5 star because I love this game to bits and it's truly a masterpiece among ARPGs, but it has its flaws, namely:

- At times, gank fights, bullet hells, and some really questionable boss design that feel absolutely terrible to play through.
- Some dungeons are way longer than they should and the second third of the game feels padded as a result (Cloudius to Mikheil is a slog that could understandably make you feel like dropping the game, and that's also where the bosses are terrible).
-Some levels of the post-game super-dungeon are equally a slog and feel really cheap, and it's a shame (read why later in this review)! Also you can't choose levels individually, you have to go through the whole thing in order and that takes hours.
- Annoying handling of titles and having to have a specific character on display for some sidequests. Just stupid.
- Some town music can get really annoying.
- Random encounters. Not only that, but the rate's too high, and as much as I love the gameplay, there are too many fights. It's especially annoying if you're in the middle of a puzzle in a dungeon.

If you are willing to go past these flaws, here's what you will find:

- Incredible action gameplay.
- Some really, really great boss fights.
- Smart yet simple mechanics like Swordian Devices and Rerise, accessible everywhere, making preparation a breeze and a pleasure.
- Mostly great music.
- Some pretty neat core ideas and concepts for the story, even if the narration isn't groundbreaking.
- The character interactions, as always in Tales games!
- Amazing battle graphics and some of the best-looking mystic artes in the series EVEN TODAY.
- My favorite thing in this game: the handling of difficulty modes. Difficulty modes here are the best crafted I've seen in any game. Each difficulty mode feels unique, and higher difficulty not only empowers enemies: it also empowers YOUR PARTY. Yes, you heard! And yet, the game will still feel more difficult on a higher difficulty. It just gives you the tools you need to get over it. The higher the difficulty, the higher your critical hit rate, blast gauge rate, weak spot damage, and experience earned through combos. To put it shortly: the game will constantly reward you for being good at it, and will always compensate for any high risk you're willing to take, so long as you can overcome the challenge. And the challenge, you're free to take it whenever you want, as you can change the difficulty in-game without restrictions. In this game, no stupid experience multiplier like in other Tales games making the challenge of higher difficulties trivial in NG+. You want to reach level 200? Get those combos to work, and challenge the optional dungeon, where regular enemies give A LOT of XP. Honestly though, you might not even need to get to level 200 to overcome most of the toughest fights the game has to offer; that's the magic of this game. In most cases, if you understand how everything works and prepare your party carefully, you will be able to win most bosses while even being underleveled, especially toward the end of the game. The way the devs chose not to include an experience multiplier for NG+ in this game, instead providing options to modify core gameplay elements for a fresh new run, shows just how much care went into crafting those difficulty modes and balancing out all the gameplay elements, and in that regard, no game has done better since. It's simply amazing. If you're curious about how the gameplay works and how each difficulty mode differs from the others and you like numbers, go take a look at the Tales of Destiny Character FAC by Aileron on Gamefaqs. It's sobering.
- The post-game dungeon, despite what I said earlier, is truly incredibly well-designed, as it makes full use of the excellent gameplay elements I just mentioned, and richly, RICHLY rewards you for taking a gamble and winning! It also pushes you to become more familiar with characters that are not Stahn or Leon from a gameplay perspective.

If you're a Tales fan and you haven't played that one yet, please, you have to. There's an english patch for it now!
If you're not a Tales fan but you love action, give it a try. It's not always a fair game, but it sure is charming, challenging and extremely well-tuned. Trust me, I finished it 5 times!

Gameplay: Really good
Story: It feels a bit rushed in this remake but it's fine and the Leon's Side is very good
Music: Very good
Replayable: Yes
Streamed: Nope

Peguei pra jogar e aí descobri que tinha batalhas aleatórias, tô fora. Não achei o início ruim, mas algum dia aí eu volto pra zerar isso.

ive tried like six different tales games and never enjoyed a single one until this. and now i DEFINITELY cant enjoy any others because this games combat is just that good. and they never brought it back except for graces f apparently, which is one i have not played. why they never brought it back is beyond me.

Perhaps the best execution of the LMBS. If the goal of Tales is a JRPG with deep fighting game combat Destiny DC may be the closest it got to realizing that

Characters were good, story was about average, battles were good, but then the second half absolutely felt like a bunch of dungeon filler.

absolutely gorgeous game, they really nailed the combo of expressive 2D sprites on pixel-textured 3D environments. it struggles with pacing near the end, imo, but the rest of the game's charms win me over. the voice acting is incredibly natural, and if you play with auto-advance on, it actually sounds like it would in a show or movie instead of the awkward pauses you get between lines in most games. combat is fine, nothing special and mostly reasonable. really fantastically charming game.

i had the PSX version back when i was a kid and i never got very far in it, so it feels like a bit of personal closure to finally cross it off the list.

(played on life bottle v0.0.221)

It can't be overstated how vast of an improvement this is over the original. Visually this game is on another level, even compared to more modern Tales games. Both the amazing pixel art in battles and the 3d rendered world are vibrant.

The combat is some of the best in the series as well. I had a much easier time executing combos than I have in any other Tales games. Being 2D helps a lot, and it's definitely the best 2D Tales combat by a huge margin. The visual response to every hit really elevates it. Heavy hits feel brutal, and rapid strikes feel like I'm eviscerating the enemy. The swordians add some customizability, but only for half the cast. I really enjoyed playing as Kongman and it would have been nice to have that level of fine tuning to him, as well as the others who don't have swordians.

The cast was quite good, if not greatly over bloated. Throughout the game, including Swordians you have a total of 15 party members. This can be fine in some games but it really left a lot of characters under-used. The story is pretty standard fare for these games and doesn't really break the mold in any way. The overall tone is on the more lighthearted side, which is totally fine. I usually have a problem when these games have a more grounded approach but one character is just off the goop, but it doesn't feel that way when the whole cast are kind of dorks.

Now my biggest gripes with this game, and why it isn't rated higher, are the dungeons. I can't confirm this since I didn't beat the original game, but the level designs feel so archaic compared to the rest of the game it feels like they didn't update the design at all. The last third, in particular, is inexcusable. They were dreadfully long and mechanically tedious. Only stuck through it on the grounds that I like the core gameplay a lot.

I guess the only other thing worth mentioning is that the only translated version of this game available right now is rough as hell. I didn't change my rating based on it, since it is unofficial and effectively not a fault of the game itself, but the translation is a mess in its current state. It's impressive and admirable that we are able to play this game at all, but unless you are chomping at the bit to complete the series, I'd say hold off on this one, at least for now.

Massive improvement from the PS1 version in every way. This is the peak of 2D Tales

I'm glad this exist since I can have a rating for Destiny PSX and Destiny DC now. The combat in this game is really good. The best 2D combat in the series, however I have some small issues like normal attacks existing and being pretty useless not too far into the game. I'd rather have something like Graces here with an arte tree for normal attacks or just more arte bindings. The story to me seemed bland and the characters were pretty good but far from the best in the series. However when I played DC, there wasn't a fan patch but a translation guide that was very incomplete so my understanding of the story and characters isn't perfect. I plan to replay this game and once I do I'll probably raise the score but for now this is how I feel about it.

I didn't play the Director's Cut, just the original Remake, but it doesn't seem to be on this site.

Anyway, the gameplay was a large improvement over the extremely dated original PS1 Destiny. The CC system was a very fun system that got better as you advanced through the game with some of the most creative fighting options in the series.

Sadly I couldn't understand the story much since I didnt really know much Japanese. Lilith was easily my favorite to play.
