I'm equally scared and aroused by the killer

The Coma: Recut is one hell of a creepy game. I didn't know what to think at first, not to mention it had the "Made In Unity" start up which often means it was made cheaply and sadly we have seen MANY terrible games with that attached, but this certainly is not one of those! This game was damn good and creepy as fuck!

First it starts out where you play a high school student who is having a ordinary day, but had a creepy dream, woke up late and then arrived to school to find that a fellow student attempted to commit suicide which delayed the test making sure you have arrived on time. However, as you sit down and start the test the whole school becomes warped and strange, you see grey figure representations of your fellow classmates and your teacher becoming a psychopath!

I felt the game was a little short when I finally finished it, but I certainly don't regret one moment of it! I just got a little annoyed that the story wasn't fully resolved.

Sequel is better, but I recommend you play this one first well duh

Visualmente The Coma é muito bonito e ajuda bastante a criar a atmosfera durante o gameplay.

With the expressive key art and character portraits, I was really hoping for a lot more with this game.. It really didn't provide anything I haven't seen before in the realm of east and southeast asian school horror, you're really better off trying anything else. And it provides this sameness in the limited scope of 2D. Its other huge problem is that it's simply just.. very buggy and hard to deal with. Nothing engaging enough to string me along far enough either. If you've done the school classroom hide/run puzzle of coming in one door and leaving out the other to confuse the AI in another game, then you've played basically what all of this game has to offer. That, backtracking. Tedium. Glitches.

"A Game That Captures The Dullness Of School, Without The Fear"

Most people are terrified of school, with some having that common recurring nightmare of waking up late for an important exam. Well, for you masochists out there, The Coma: Recut is here to have you play through that exact nightmare! At least, that's how the game presents itself initially. While this title started off on the right foot with me, not even an hour or two later I felt like I had seen enough of the game to grow very, very tired of it. Just like school itself!

The gameplay is quite straightforward: search for items of interest, read notes scrawled throughout the world, hide from a murderous stalker, and occasionally use items to replenish health and/or stamina. Yet...that is all that ever happens within this game. A few other reviews have painted this game as a "Korean Boarding School" version of Outlast , and I would have to agree to some level. The gameplay is similar, with The Coma: Recut sacrificing many of the cheaper scares found within Outlast (a game I originally loved and grew to dislike for many similar reasons) for a simple inventory system with some healing/stamina replenishment. These new, less than mediocre elements add little to the simplistic gameplay loop of "Explore, Run, Hide", and actually make the game feel really unrefined and clunky.

I also was disappointed with the game's story. I thought that more commentary would be made on how the education systems in most countries, especially South Korea, is selfishly designed to conform many students to the class-based societies that many of these countries have existing within their borders (this includes the United States as well, for anyone who thinks I am trying to speak from a biased perspective). What I found instead, was what felt like a dragged on teenage-horror film that took place within a school. While I admit that I may have expected too much going into the game, the story it gave me wasn't very great either. The characters failed to intrigue me, and felt like typical stereotypes: nerdy boy who is obsessed with popular girl, jock who is maniacally evil, and a main character that felt bland and unidentifiable. It was really a shockingly bad plot to experience, and these elements led to me dropping the game less than 2 hours in. With what I read of the plot synopsis, I am glad I didn't continue.

The art is okay enough, and has a slick style to it that somewhat intrigues the eye. However, the color scheme is horridly bland, with a lot of grays, blacks, and blues. Additionally, the soundtrack is empty, with a few repeating tracks that do very little to the ambiance the game looks to develop. The lack of voice acting is also disappointing, as it would have helped to shore up the game's glaring weaknesses with its sound design. While the characters would have likely sounded like the cliches they represent, it would have at least given this title some more entertainment value at the end of the day.

If you want a simplistic horror game that involves light elements of exploration, story, and is drawn pretty well, go ahead and pick this game up. I wouldn't suggest you do so, but if you are really that desperate, by all means try it out. If you desire an experience with much more to chew on and that is much scarier, there are many horror games out there that involve much more complex stories, more atmospheric settings, and puzzles to change up the pace of the game. I mean hell, I could suggest Outlast over this title, and I find that game to be very subpar. The Coma: Recut is a boring low-budget horror title, and a game I would personally Not Recommend.

Final Verdict: 2/10 (Bad)

Pretty solid time. I don't think the game is really all that scary, but the atmosphere of the school works well to unsettle you. It has memorable characters and the protagonist is an endearing buffoon you wanna root for.

Gameplay wise it is pretty simple. It has lots of backtracking and needing to get item X to open Y. I also don't understand why the vending machines have bandages in them?

It's not really a complex game but I also didn't think it was bad at all. Sometimes simple is good. And this one was pretty good. I liked it.

Не закончил. Страшно. Сюжет средний, мало что понятно из начала по нему.

the main character's emotional investment in the plot is comparable to a family guy character's

Its all basically fine. Its not perfect horror or deep horror and its frankly kind of frustrating horror. Lots of unclear direction and where to progress, lots of dying, and not a perfect translation.

The main enemy chasing you through the halls is one of the most irritating Mr. X types I've ever seen. No way to avoid or dodge her, no way to survive more than two hits and hiding from her doesn't ensure that she won't just return to blocking the path. So sometimes you just eat a hit and hope you get lucky to escape to the next area. You often aren't. I eventually had to abandon my attempt to get a true ending, since there was no way to complete the last task necessary without getting killed and backtracking back through the whole level again.

Still, in spite of those problems, its basically fine. Some incredible animation work and I'm still interested in the story enough to give the sequel a try at some point. I don't know if I'd rec it to just anyone, but if you're craving really any kind of horror and you've seen all the famous indie highlights, you could do worse.

I've always had a soft spot for horror games, especially for ones that rely on their atmosphere rather than cheap jump scares. So yeah, I guess it's no wonder that 'The Coma: Recut' was right up my alley.

I've never played the original game, so I can't say how much was changed for this recut version. What I can tell you is that this is a really nice-looking 2D horror adventure, that might not be that crazy scary, but it's quite challenging and has multiple endings, so there's also some replay value here.

Unfortunately, the controls are a bit unresponsive sometimes, which can be really frustrating in the middle of an escape sequence, so be prepared to see the main character die quite a number of times before you finish the game.

Even though it's flawed in its execution, I can recommend this to the fans of Asian horrors. As long as your expectations aren't too high, I'm sure you'll find it just as entertaining as I did.
