Why do I own this (core memories were made with this game)

Listened to the OST for hours while crying. Skiing at night to the ice area is so nostalgic. Also inspired me to start skiing irl.

It's not nearly as good as its sequel. Already having the context of that game makes this one seem so meek in comparison. It lacks a LOT of content and the resort feels a lot more empty both just in its space and its features, but it's still pretty fun.

The vibes are definitely still there at least. The various Bandai Namco game soundtracks, the announcer lady interrupting the songs over the intercom to talk about random stuff, and the idle chatter of the other skiers, it all makes the ski resort a very pleasant place to merely exist in. That will always be my favorite thing about these games. Even just idling as the game runs as you lay on the couch looking at your phone or something, it's such a pleasant little vibe to hang out in. I said it when I wrote a little blurb about Go Vacation (which I've now deleted!), but it was such a great idea for Bandai Namco to put the Ridge Racer team on a game like this.

I tricked my parents into thinking this game was exercise so I could play it more

I was so into Nintendo in the Wii era that I like REALLY wanted this game.

I played it once after I got it. Rhythm games had a full chokehold on me.

It probably wasn't like awful, though. Just kinda bland.

good ol' wii shovelware that my parents bought 5-year old me

Super fun. Got very boring after awhile because of little replay value. BUT as a kid that mattered a lot less.

lovely, the sequel capitalized on the fun of this even more

this was the most atmospheric game ever to my 11 year old self

played this with my cousin as a kid i loved going down the hill at night, controls are wack though

Ah, another game from my childhood that i forgot ive done everything in! My family went on a lot of ski trips, and while I definitely liked the vibes of going down snowy mountain courses, I certainly wasn't a fan of the actual activity of skiing very much (especially when all my brother and dad wanted to do was go on the fucking-kill-you black diamond courses, those are NOT vibes)

Wii WE ski is a game that seeks to provide the vibe of going on a fun ski trip without any of the actual annoyances of actually skiing, and honestly, the vibe works. There's really no overarching objective outside of various little side missions and unlockables and whatnot, just explore the resort and go down the different ski runs. It's a good time for folks that have a lot of free time to just explore the resort freely and just vibe, and that's definitely the kind of game kid me was hella into. There are even fun little secrets, like the ultra-perilous secret course that can only be accessed by going off the beaten path into the unknown mountainy wilderness. (Which is a lot more fun than actual perilous ski runs since who cares it you die in the virtual world!) It's certainly a good time! Though I guess it's absolutely surpassed by its sequels at this point.

Oh and the ski resort plays music from various namco games like katamari and ridge racer diagetically through the resort speakers, real ski resorts take note

CRASH INTO THE OTHER SKIIERS. THEY'RE ALL MARTIANS IN DISGUISE

Pretty frustrating because the Wii Balance Board isn't the best

I remember when I was like 8 I had a nightmare that I discovered a secret evil area with area icons like scorpions and shit and there were shadowy creatures that just stalked you through an otherwise normal area

Anyway weird childhood trauma aside it was a pretty good open world-ish game

Definitely in the Top 5 Open World Games of all time.

I am BLINDED by nostalgia for this game but I’ll give it justice. For being a clearly non official “we” game, I had SO much fun from this game. I played this as an 7 year old and this was one of my first games that really gave you that open world experience as your character could traverse anywhere in the ski resort. For a game that probably costs $3 from a thrift store or eBay, it was worth revisiting and playing for a couple hours. Obviously it doesn’t stand anywhere near a triple A title or Indie masterpieces, this game just sparked an amazing experience for my seven year old self and I thank that from We Ski.
