carto is a little resting spot along the way -- short and breezy, it passes through without much ado. and yet, it's so endearing precisely for the little moments rich with character workings, composing a whole world of loving, empathetic people. people with traditions, people who live in relation to the land. in this game you make sense of the land but what makes it special is it never deviates from little carto, especially in the ending. the world is what she makes it, what we make it, always.

Carto is cute, and has a fun puzzle gameplay. The core concept of rotating and moving the world around you is not only nifty, but I suspect that it could even make for a fun speed game with neat optimizations.
While I enjoyed some of the puzzling here, I just struggled to get involved with Carto and the island's story.

I think it's unfair for me to say this is a bad game. Objectively, I don't think it is. It offers a great art style mixed with an interesting puzzle piece mechanic. However, I found the trial and error puzzle mechanic tiresome and boring. I made it through the first two islands, but the game failed to grab me in any meaningful way. It is just not a game for me and that's okay.
this was so fucking cute.
a sweet little adventure title with compelling puzzle gameplay. it knows not to overstay its welcome and gets just about as much mileage that it can out of what's here without dragging or repeating itself.
not sure if i'd be able to get through a sequel without some iteration or switching up but as this was by itself, i liked it a lot.

Really solid puzzler. The map-based puzzles are creative and it's fun to mess around with the map pieces.
Early on the game feels a little too easy, but by the end the difficulty ramps up a lot - though sometimes it felt difficult purely because I didn't know what the game expected of me, it didn't always communicate my 'goal' all that clearly. Some puzzles also felt a bit of a stretch.
The art and music are extremely chill, and you get to hug a bear in one of my favourite animations outside if Spiritfarer.
This is one of those small and perfectly formed games you can complete in a couple of sittings.

Carto is a lovely short breeze adventure, everything here is full of charm and charisma, as a puzzle games it is one of a kind, from time to time there will be that puzzle game that has a neat unique ideia, and executes upon it beautifully, and thats Carto.
The idea of moving not the player but the map is really interesting, and here it works like a charm, as a little cartographer you'll navigate your way using the maps itself, the original idea is expanded upon greatly and
it doesn't overstay its welcome, it's so well thought.
That alongside with a charming cast of characters, a lot of animal friends! and a heartwarming finale adds up to a must play puzzle game, maybe they could use some hint system at some point, but other than that, it's a delight.

Decent puzzle game with an interesting mechanic that provides both an unique & "Not sure what to do" experience with its limited hinting
+ Unique game mechanic with rearrainging the map/environment
+ Cute charm/feel
+ Puzzles difficulty was decent (not too easy or hard)
+ Genuine a-ha moments when figuring out puzzles, nice satisfaction
- Wish there was a just "a little" more hand holding or hints when you are stuck on a puzzles
- Needed more variety in puzzle challenges (later half of the game added a few new things)

Carto is a puzzle game that has you guide a young girl (the titular Carto) as she travels to various locales to reunite with her grandmother by organizing and manipulating pieces of a map.
The gameplay splits largely into two modes: one where you explore locations in order to interact with the world, talk to NPCs and find new map pieces and a second where you rearrange pieces of the map in order to alter the terrain in the overworld or allow yourself to move to new locations.
A lot of these puzzles are easy to parse and fun to execute as you watch the effects that your meddling has on the world and in most instances there's a good amount of leniency in how the game allows you to solve the problems.
Some of the puzzles, however, require you to repeat an action multiple times with sometimes unclear indications that you're actually progressing toward your goal.
None of the puzzles are particularly difficult but the solutions can sometimes be obtuse or in some instances struggle to demonstrate progress.
The story is a strong point as Carto is adorable and the various characters that you come across are all incredibly charming. In each area Carto helps the characters solve obstacles often relating to the cultural customs of their fictional lands.
These stories along with a pleasant art style help to make each location memorable while adding to the overall charm of the game.
Ultimately, Carto is a clever puzzle game with a unique mechanic that is bolstered by a story with a heart.

Cute aesthetic and charming writing aside, this did nothing for me. When it wasn't frustrating me with puzzles that were sometimes either too vague or made no sense, it was boring me. I do think that some of the puzzles had creative solutions, but the main gimmick of the game got old quick. A shame, because I genuinely loved how cozy the game felt.

Carto is a cute game with a unique idea and solid execution. You are a kid who can rearrange the map they are standing on to solve simple orientation and location based puzzles for people in various lands.
The art is really great and the theme/narrative matches up with it really nicely. It has some Dragon Quest vibes for me, of going to a community, helping them out with something, then moving on. Very light and breezy to play through.
The puzzles are interesting, but get a bit samey. There are a couple of unique twists, but I wanted this to be more about exploration than it is. As is, Carto is mainly a game about pattern matching and working your way through the narrative.
Fast playthrough and a pretty cool time. Worth checking out if the art and gimmick appeal to you!

Imposible quitarte la sonrisa de la cara.
Pros:
