I don't know the people who made this game were perverted or on drugs. My fear is that it's a mix of both.

I feel very bad for having had fun playing this.

The sexual innuendos are annoying but beside that I liked the thought of a crazy monster hunting family where the woman were the ones who got shit done and the love interest was nothing but a sidepiece.

I also liked the soundtrack.

So yeah, I should probably feel bad for this. so now I'll hide in my corner and cry myself to sleep or something.

It's kinda funny and really light-hearted, but the gameplay got stale rather quickly for me.

i wish this game was as good as those juicers looked

Controls may be a tad wonky at times, but it has one of the best story and some of the most likeable characters of any game.

Suda 51 + James Gunn + actual budget + a studio that won't fuck him over + a good combat system = KINO

I think the concept of the game is really great and fun. The idea of James Gunn and Suda51 getting together and making a video game sounds like a dream. The goofy story and witty/immature dialogue gives this game a really unique feel among other games of it's genre. But the combat is clunky as all hell. And that's a damn shame, because some aspects of the combat are cool. But eventually, chopping zombie heads off starts to get boring

If this game just had a deeper, and more enjoyable combat system, this game would probably get knocked up a score or two.

I got an Xbox 360 before for Alan Wake and... this.

Bring this to Steam you cowards.

Eng: This zombie game is above the average zombie video game, not only does it give us an absurdly memorable story, but it also manages to create an icon of the protagonist (a humor similar to that of ghostbusters) the game is so great because, despite Being deliberately comical, he takes himself seriously at all times. Filled with bizarre and surreal situations, it takes the genre to another level.

the whole skinning-asses-raw part is serviceable but nothing too special. thankfully everything else is ultra stylish and absurdly hilarious. easily top five funniest games ever made (unless you're a total prude)

Most of the time when a sexy protagonist is on the front cover you know you’re in for a bad game. Lollipop Chainsaw is actually quite enjoyable if you look past the flaws. You play as the sexy cheerleader Juliet Starling who is part of a zombie hunting family. You must stop a goth kid from turning everyone in your high school and town into zombies. The story is pretty thin and not very interesting because the game isn’t even long enough to dish out a meaty story. With only 6 levels you’re looking for a weekend rental at best. With this being a Suda 51 game you can also expect crazy out the you-know-what. The game is oozing with style and visual eye candy, but is it any good?

The answer is yet, but with flaws. The first issue is the combat. There are plenty of combos you can buy and unlock at chop2shop.com stations. You can buy health and other items like art, threads, and music. Once you start unlocking more combos the game is more diverse, but Juliet doesn’t feel like the limber cheerleader she should be. Basic attacks use her pom-poms, but it takes forever to make a zombie groggy enough for a chainsaw kill. I rarely used basic attacks and just stuck to chainsaw attacks. Her chainsaw is cumbersome, and the combat system in general needs more polish. I felt like I was controlling a giant fat guy rather than a nimble girl. Her animations are too long and you get constantly knocked back which means tapping B to recover every time. The combat is just sluggish and not as limber as games like Tomb Raider or Bayonetta.

The combat is even flawed with the chainsaw blaster. Aiming the thing is a pain because it always sticks to enemies like there’s a magnet. I can’t go for precise headshots or aim at barrels. You can use Nick Tickets which are special mini-games that use Nick’s head (her headless boyfriend) as a weapon. These are pretty crazy and funny like shooting his head out of a cone like a topper or swinging him around on a rope among others. You can use your rainbow power to become invincible for a while and start sparkle hunting. If you kill three or more zombies in a row you will a trippy girly pose scene of Juliet and earn bonus coins.

The combat is obviously the main focus because there’s not much else here. There are a few mini-games like pole dancing, jumping on zombie heads, and the few mini-games that are level specific, as well as a few chainsaw dash areas. The 6 levels are interesting and keep things mixed up, but it’s the bosses that are all different and interesting. Each one has some sort of musical skill from a different genre of music. Having to kill them is awesome and full of gore and guts which you will see plenty of.

Lastly, the graphics are not technically impressive but have lots of visual flairs. The blood from zombies flows pink with rainbows, sparkles, and stars flying out. The game is very girly but appeals to men due to the sex appeal and violence. Juliet herself is hard to like and is not as memorable as other females like Lara Croft or Bayonetta. She’s a dingy preppy cheerleader and is the exact stereotype of one. Nick says funnier things than she does, but the sayings just get repetitive and annoying after awhile. Juliet is hard to like because she acts dumb, and is weak and selfish personality wise. The game just isn’t long enough to flesh out the characters and story more.

After you beat the game there’s no reason to back except for ranking mode to beat scores and unlock new stuff. The game has a lot of potentials but needs some more polish before it can sit among the action/adventure kings like God of War, Tomb Raider, and Bayonetta. The combat is sluggish and cumbersome, the game is short, and the characters aren’t developed as well as they could have been. There is tons of visual flair, but the game is lacking technically with some low-resolution textures and poor lighting effects. Lollipop Chainsaw is fun for a weekend, but nothing more.

Yeahhhh, It's stupid and really tries to be funny, and... it fails, HARD. I liked it tho :P

I feel like this was the first game where SUDA was loosing his edge. The whole thing feels desperate and tasteless.

I’m aware of how fucking stupid this is. Lemme enjoy this.

You can tell that James Gunn wrote this one

Jimmy Urine really saved this game.

Lolipop Chainsaw is short, has some pointless sections, takes a long time to load sections constantly, and the enemy combat doesn't really spice up till your 2nd run, and overall isn't Suda51's best work. However it also has excellent music, some fairly witty dialogue, and once combat actually does become potent it can be quite fun. Still though, if you don't like the characters in this game you probably won't like it on its own merit, but for those that do, its a fun ride.

Rented this game and spent hours unlocking all the weeb costumes. Should see if it holds up.

i liked this game a lot. like... a lot a lot. it is peak video gaming in the way that video gaming is edgy and swag. anywayz... ya idk man

As my second Grasshopper Manufacture title, this one was a huge let down. The combat was boring, once you get the Armadillo spin, which you can get on the first level, everything becomes mindless. You just spin your way through zombie town destroying everything in your path.

Now, obviously you are encouraged to buy more moves and string combos together to get the maximum amount of medals, but I just don't care. The player is always going to take the easiest option, even if it's more boring, because it's easier. That being said, if I liked the game's plot and themes, maybe I would have reason to try to play the game as intended. Try to make the fun gameplay match the great story. The problem with that is, the story is drivel.

Never in my life have I played as hateful a game as this one. This game hates everyone, teenage girls, anorexic people, asian people, mentally ill people, fat people, you name it Lollipop Chainsaw hates it. Well, except white dudes obviously. All of this comes from the mind of one white dude in particular. One James Gunn.

Now, I love James Gunn's Guardians movies, and I'm not really the biggest Marvel fan out there. In fact I find them rather boring. But I respect James Gunn's vision most of the time. Here however? He's just trying to provoke a reaction.

There's so many times where I feel like the game's going to turn the whole situation on it's head. That it's going to become a brilliant piece of political satire ala Bamboozled, Bulworth, or hell even No More Heroes! Instead, James Gunn chooses to wallow in pure shock value humour. And not in a cool John Waters-type challenging the status quo way. No, just in a boring white guy way. Where punching down is the funniest fucking thing in the world.

At the end of the day, I don't really blame any of the team working on it. I don't even entirely blame James Gunn. Yes, this game fucking sucks, but James Gunn seems to have realised the hurtfulness of his prior brand of humour. As well, this really doesn't feel like a Suda51 game, none of his trademarks seem to be here at all. And particularly, this game came right after Grasshopper Manufacture would balloon in size from around 70 to over 140 employees.

The company became too big for Suda51 to direct and oversee the company. Tomo Ikeda, the game's director, had never directed a game before. On top of all that, Grasshopper Manufacture released 5 other games in 2012 alongside Lollipop Chainsaw. It's really no wonder this game is drab and directionless. It just got lost in the shuffle.

While the gameplay was kinda not great, it sure had that Suda51 mark on it.

This game is pretty fricking great. I play it every few years and it's always a blast and makes me laugh. The combat is better than what I thought it was going to be but not really deep either. The game is just so colorful and cheery but your stuck in an undead apocalypse. The game is very memorable and does mix up the monotony of the combat. The story scenes and one liners always get a good laugh out of me. I think it's worth a playthrough for that alone. The sheer absurdity of where the game goes is always amusing. I really like the extensive unlockable costumes you can get too. It's pretty crazy almost like 10-15 costumes and based on the game and other properties for free and not DLC. Because of that though and the licensed music I don't ever see this game getting a rerelease and the price of it is skyrocketing. Which is a shame cause it's a fantastic game.

Platinum # 9

Pros:

Juliet Starling is one of my favorite videogames protagonists. I want to be her. Most of the bosses have a really cool design and an even better soundtrack (my favorites are Mariska and Zed!).
It's also hilarious, the story is really fucking stupid in the best kind of way and I love it

Surprisingly good action title.

But dang, what an annoying protagonist this game has, fuck.
