Decent to kill a few hours.

almost as good as it's victory music which it definitely didn't rip from Kill The Beast! from Beauty & the Beast

A solid 3rd-person shooter with the unique aspect of also being a tower defense game. A lot of great concepts that are expanded in the sequels. Best to only play this if you'd like to get a feel for the past.

Solid campaign and the themes are right up my alley

this game sucks but i like the vibe and its fun if you have another person also the progression is really good which is kind of rare for a tower defense game but thats because ever tower defense game anyone has ever played is a flash game made by a 15 year old in highschool 20 years ago

its like aight, if you could buy it for 10$ thatd be cool, fun tower defence game, not boring imo, but not a huge amount of depth, its like fast food mcdonalds game ngl

Now THIS is a tower defense game. I have a soft spot for games that deftly combine genres. In this case it’s an efficient and enjoyable cross of tower defense and third-person shooter, and it manages to nail both.

At the outset you’re thrown into the robes of an apprentice war mage. Your master has died fighting the orcs and left the fate of the realm in your hands. You venture from fortress to fortress, defending magic rifts from orcish intrusions. The green guys pour in through the gates in waves; if too many reach the rift it’s game over.

What I love about this game is the width of strategic options. Want to focus on laying a maze full of traps? You can! Want to power up your spells and fry orcs to a crisp? You can! Each new level invites you to revise your tactics and consider new approaches.

My go-to strategy was to slow down my foes and let my traps grind them to a pulp. I’d throw up barriers to force them in a certain direction and litter the path with wall blades and swinging maces. Whatever got through my traps I’d eliminate with lightning and fire.

In terms of game design it’s all meat with very little gristle. Nearly all traps have valid use cases, and savvy players will find ways to maximize the potential of each. Enemy design is also smartly sparse. There are only a handful of enemy types but each one requires special consideration. Speedy kobolds evade many traps, forcing you to clean up them with your crossbow, whereas gnoll hunters ignore the rift completely, chasing you around the fortress until you put them down. And then there are ogres. Whenever one of these big boys stomps in, I hope your defenses are ready. Because although a lone ogre is easy enough to deal with, they’re usually flanked by hordes of orcs, who will slip through your traps unscathed behind their tanky pal.

Another feature I appreciated is that the game is as easy or difficult as you want it to be. Several orcs can escape through the rift before it’s game over, so passing a stage usually isn’t too arduous. Getting a five-skull rating on a stage, however, requires that no orcs breach the rift. Perfecting each stage is no small task, and to have a chance at success you’ll need to memorize the waves so that you can properly prepare you defenses.

When I reached the end, I was almost sad it was over. But then I remembered there’s still DLC and a couple sequels full of orcs to defend against. I hope the green guys enjoy their short respite, because this war mage will be back for another round of rift-defending soon.

Great time, fun tower defense like, must play

I haven't played this game in 10 years

Eu não dava nada pra esse jogo e simplesmente me apaixonei, o jogo é incrível, muito interativo, divertido. Com um bom humor e explora sua criatuvidade. Com certeza vai na entrar na minha lista de jogos favoritos.

ORCS MUST DIE!
More challenging then #2 and is single player only.

Not often do you get a game where the title is also your motivation.

best first person tower defense game there is to play. doesnt help that its like the ONLY one thats decent.

Orcs must Die 1 ist sehr wenig Spiel und macht, abseits vom Trefferfeedback, nichts besser oder mehr als sein Nachfolger. Also red ich lieber über den

actually kinda a fun third person shooter tower defense game but literally fucking mute it and put on something in the background because the dialog is a 2011 time capsule in the worst possible way he makes a charlie sheen "winning!" joke like holy fuck

I am not a real big fan of tower defense games because they become so repetitive too quickly, and are flooding the mobile phone market. OMD is a different take on the genre where you actually control the person laying the traps to stop the orcs, so the game actually involves the player into the action instead of you just sitting back and watching. There really isn’t much of a story, but that’s OK because the game is full of awesome gameplay, but after a while, you will wish you could bring a buddy along, but alas, there is no multiplayer.

You start out by laying traps around the map, but you get to survey it first before the orcs come in. This is key to know the choke points and weak spots of each map. You start out with just a few traps like spikes, wall crushers, and lightning zappers, but as you beat each level you earn new traps and you can upgrade them to do more damage, more AoE damage, and even size. These traps are awesome because they are all part of the whimsical art style and tongue-in-cheek humor the game provides. Once you lay out your traps you watch the orcs come flooding in from different areas, but you have a crossbow and magic powers to help keep them at bay. I stood back behind choke points and just let loose with my crossbow button held down making sure orcs didn’t get through. Once I got the trap that let me put archers and knights in different areas this helped a lot. However, as the game goes on it gets really difficult and this is where you will wish you could bring a buddy along.

The maps after a while start looking the same and this is where the game will test your nerves. Will you want to complete all the maps? The best thing to do is to have a friend take over and maybe play every other map after a while. Some maps were so hard, even using multiple strategies I still failed from protecting my portal and letting too many orcs through. This is where co-op would have made some maps a synch. The maps won’t just get on your nerves, but the hero’s one-liners will which seem funny at first, but after a while, you will wish you could turn that crossbow on him. There is some DLC available like costumes and a few more maps, but I really wanted more interesting enemies to kill. I started seeing green in my sleep because I saw so many orcs. Some are big and slow, some are fast, some have weapons of their own, but in the end, the game kills you on repetition. I would have liked to see some mini-games or maybe some sort of reward/achievement system.

When all is said and done, Orcs Must Die! is a fun game in short bursts, and it really needs co-op to make the game a little easier and more enjoyable. The snappy one-liners grate on you after a while, and the maps start looking the same just shifted around. Even the orc units get boring to kill after so many maps. I played about 20 myself and couldn’t take it anymore. If it wasn’t for the difficulty spikes, it was the sheer monotony of everything. Once you unlock all the traps there’s nothing to really look forward to anymore, and it takes forever to earn upgrade points. This is a fun game, but only for so long.

it's just a fun game to burn some hours

Orcs Must Die! 1 is the peak of the series for me. There is a wonderful "crunch" that comes from the traps slaying the orcs in larger and larger quantities. You feel the "crunch" with the power you hold as an individual agent and can burn/zap/pierce the skulls of orcs. You also feel that "crunch" with every gold coin/dollar earned for each Orc killed. This game can be tough as nails to get 5 skulls on but it feels rewarding while you make those attempts. It is also the most fun trap-wise in my opinion since there are so many more ways to effectively kill enemies than just damaging them that the following games didn't build on.

This game re-ignited my love for tower defense games that I hadn't taken advantage of since I was a kid. I even enjoy what "story" there is with the main character being a smart-alec goofball that makes a choice in line with his interests.

equivalent of a popcorn movie, non-existent story but amusing characterization and highly replayable campaign. Generally don't find score attack games too engaging but this one had me retry a few levels to up my score, thanks to the satisfying, if somewhat limited, trap system. You'll know whether or not you'll enjoy this by the end of the first level

My indie game experience with the Ps360 7th generation is a haze of cheap Xbox Live Arcade games that use the avatar function, weird borderline pornographic games, and oddly enough a couple of decent cell shaded tower defense games. The game is fine enough. Just throw on a podcast or something and play on easy or normal and just obliterate your hours away with it.

A really fun tower defense where you don't just sit around and wait for enemies to be killed by your towers. Functioning as an active component for your defense adds a lot of depth to your gameplay. The orcs are also hilariously stupid in a charming way.

Traps, trinkets, and weapons are all fun to use. Maps are varied and contain numerous avenues for skill expression. There are a few missteps, such as an overreliance on Barricades, but Orcs Must Die is overall a fantastic tower defense experience.

100%: Nightmare levels are challenging, but proper strategies make them manageable. Killing 30k orcs will most likely take the longest to complete.

(Played before 2023)
Played this with a friend, don't remember much other than I liked it.

Hundo #166 Orcs Must die!

Enjoyment: 7/10
Difficulty: 4/10

For a first entry, it is an excellent TD game! Most of the traps are useful although some could use some balancing. There are some OP combinations that will help with the Nightmare play-through. Overall not that difficult and plenty of fun. It only needed a little bit of grinding to finish the 30k Orcs achievement.
