This is the best Persona game in the franchise. Fantastic themes and writing but you have to play Innocent Sin first to fully appreciate it.

Easily my favorite SMT game alongside Nocturne. The only Persona game that speaks to the struggles of being an adult rather than a teenager. This isn't inherently better, but it's certainly a breath of fresh air from the series if you've come off of 3-5. After beating this game, I ended up beating it twice more almost back to back. Maya is my singular favorite character from anything, but she's a silent protagonist in this game and shines primarily in Innocent Sin. Definitely play that first.

By comparison, Persona II: Eternal Punishment is a disappointment. While a few flaws in Innocent Sin's combat have been addressed - and the new cast of characters are less dramatic/more grounded, the story is much less interesting, and often wanders into the stereotyped, convoluted territory longer than it should. There exists entertaining moments, sobering themes, and a few memorable characters (Baofu is easily the standout), but nothing that matches the extent of its predecessor.

A unique modern setting with an equally interesting protagonist that only builds on innocent sin. A crescendo
to the end of Okada's production in the series. Its a great game all the way through that offers moral questions that are thought-provoking. A remake would be great!!

uniquely punishing combat system, to befit a narrative about the cruel and relentless reality of transitioning from youth to adulthood

The better Persona 2 game, in my opinion. A more solid and easy to follow plot, a fun adult cast, and more.

q wea mas difícil por la chucha

Definitely an improvement over Innocent Sin, the combat uses the same system as Innocent Sin but it's more challenging this time and really encourages you to take full advantage of the system, and the negotiation system is more streamlined too. The dungeon design isn't as good in my opinion, but the other gameplay improvements make up for it. The story is a satisfying end the great story of Innocent Sin, and the characters, while their dynamic isn't as good as the party dynamic in Innocent Sin, the individual characters are amazing and are totally different from anything the series has done. However, making Maya a silent protaganist was a terrible decision, as it completely wipes away her personality and being silent doesn't fit into her character like it did with Tatsuya.

peak fiction man, definitely the meaning of peak fiction

THE BEST PERSONA GAME
This is just the best persona game in my opinion, it has the best gameplay with a unique turn order system revolving around auto-battle, the best negotiation system that uses the characters traits to its strength, and just one of the best stories I have experienced, even if I didn't play innocent sin before

great gameplay, but the story is a mostly lame followup to innocent sin

the psp version of this is such a huge QOL leap up from innocent sin it's not even funny. turns it into a pretty darn strong dungeon-heavy jrpg. really, really sucks that said psp version never made it west. also it had a talking cat that wasn't morgana

Change your way, it's gonna be alright

Step down from Innocent Sin because most of the game is the same and the sort of some "secret items" to make demons with OP spells which didn't like.
The antagonist is the best one from all SMT games (include Persona).

i appreciate how most of eternal punishment's playable cast consists of adults that never truly become friends with each other (aside from ulala and maya) and only look out for each other because it's what they have to do. i also appreciate how these adults don't allow the children bear through their pain alone and choose to bear that pain alongside them, because loneliness in struggles is one of the worst experiences a child can have.

The second chapter in the Persona 2 duology refines the gameplay systems of its predecessor to make a more enjoyable experience while continuing the story with even more unique, lovable characters. This is the heart of the Persona 2 narrative and concludes it in a masterful way.

I love this game so much despite all the flaws, it's a very important game to me and I think it's probably the peak of Persona imo.

Im slrry for benign bad at smt games i eas born this way

God this is a trainwreck of feels T_T

BEST persona game

try to stayyyy positiveeeeeeee

Pretty solid game. While the base version of Persona 4 may be my FAVORITE Persona game, Eternal Punishment is, in my eyes, the BEST one.

this possibly just might be the best ps1 game ever made, beside Ridge Racer: Type 4 (another awesome game i recommend) but wow, after Innocent Sin's somewhat half-boring game, this felt really refreshing.
The cast of characters are absolutely charming, with the adult cast facing realistic ideals that people still experience to this day, and the cast overcomes them pretty well
The story actually makes sense and doesn't get boring halfway (like in IS), certain P1 characters return to play major roles, and if you know the events of the previous game, the story comes together so well
The story would also make sense if you didn't play IS before this, which is also another thing I like about these games
you can play them in different ways but you'd still understand it properly no matter which way you play it
The gameplay is somewhat the same from Innocent Sin, but contacts are way more tolerable to grind on, and the game is more balanced, so it's not easy as shit
This is also the only persona game without a bad music track so
(love you persona mambo❤️)
yeah this game is pretty cracked
I love Eternal Punishment and you should too!

good story and characters, gameplay sets it back

not as good as IS but still a must play
