Its twists are a little more absurd and 100% is the literal worst requiring RNG even with a guide that you would have no clue of even knowing without a guide and it doesn't even make sense after knowing the plot revelations why is the tea minigame so baaaad. Also if you're a hintcoin person you are locked out if you miss some at the halfway point lol.
But it's still Layton and I'll take that with a tip of the hat.

the key mystery reveals in this game are more ridiculous than the first.
this is also the beginning of my frustration with how flora gets treated in the original trilogy (i haven't played the second trilogy yet). first they try to ditch her in london, then she just got left in a barn and nobody seemed all that concerned? layton, you're her legal guardian - can you at least pretend to care?

This has a way better setting than the first one, and a better soundtrack too. Especially liked Folsense.
But well, it's Layton. Simple and fun. The trunk minigames are more accessible this time which makes for a tighter experience, but with some hiccups still (oh tea set, what you could have been...) On puzzle quality, I can't really say? Felt somewhat the same.
Enjoyable. Feels very :) although it kinda burned me out a bit.

Damn, this is a great Layton game. The plot is the best I've seen so far and I liked it a lot more than Curious Village. The music is great, the environments are vast and very colorful, and man, the story. Whew. It has a pretty good runtime too and the puzzles are fun, although I found myself going to a guide more often for this game. It's great though!!!
Much prefer the style and integration of puzzles in this game and onward where they actually complement the narrative instead of seaming like a roadblock sometimes in the previous game. That being said I can't say I enjoyed the story this time around and out of the original trilogy, this one is my least favorite overall. Pacing is way too slow with story beats that just feel like padding and the twist just feels a bit too obtuse, even for Layton standards. Still worth a playthrough for the puzzles alone tho.
IDK how to feel, part of me knows this game is better then the first game. But there are a few issues I have with the game, the first bulk of the game was paced greatly however come to chapter 5 pacing goes to a snails pace, and some puzzles were pretty bad, however I cant blame them with 153 puzzles. That being said the story was MUCH better then the first and it made me pretty emotional with the ending, Which doesnt really happen with games for me. Overall I would say it is better then the first game.
The retro game store made a mistake that forced me to wait like 30 minutes. As an apology, they gave me this game for free. It had the box and the manual intact. Just like the first game, this game is very charming and the puzzles are fun. Exploring Folsense while alone in my room at night is such a vibe.
