Pre-purchased and was completely disappointed. Was nowhere near as fun or as polished as Civ V.

It's civilization V with sci-fi this one is particularly better, because it's so detached from reality, that if CivV already gives you the possibility to play it the way you want, this one is almost an imaginative process, there are too many options.

A much needed spin on the Civilization formula, but unfortunately didn't quite have enough oomph to push it past being a sci-fi reskin of Civ V. Lacks that Civilization charm that makes those games fondly remembered.

I actually don't hate this game?

Very much lacking in content, but if you can score it in a game bundle, you'll probably enjoy it if you liked V.

Should be a DLC to Civ V, not too much to offer, even the DLCs (to the DLC, what a world we live in) don't save it

Don't know how you mix Alpha Centauri and Civ V and get a game as lame as this

Didn't start as badly a 5 did, but certainly never became as good as 5 was by the time Beyond Earth came out, and 6 vanilla is better than it regardless.

A very disappointing experience.

Worse than Civ 5 in pretty much every aspect, unless you like sci-fi settings.

It is so sad to think that this game feels like a HUGE step down from Alpha Centaury which came out 15 years prior. I understand game development changed a lot in that time, but I would have taken less graphical fidelity for a deeper game any day.

Complicated and visually less charming than main Civ games but still a very strong suit. I love the shift of focus towards more PvE and the orbital units add new ways of exploration and attacking. I'm also a fan of how you choose upgrades for your units and as cool as it is to have civilization specific units, I like the more level playing field with base units being the same. It takes a lot of time to learn and definitely shouldn't be your first Civ game, but once get the hang of it it's a nice change of atmosphere and gameplay than the mainline games.

I really wanna like this game, but I just can't. Alpha Centauri did the sci-fi setting better, and Civ 5 does the hex grid civ formula better, so BE kinda sits in this odd space where it's not objectively bad, but just struggles to justify its existence.
The game also doesn't really present you with interesting dilemmas like civ 5 or AC does, and instead, almost all the decisions the game throws at you always have an objectively best choice for every playstyle, so it ends up feeling samey and bland.
