The fact that this wasn't originally a Mario game is very conspicuous; Super Mario Bros. 2 is totally bizarre, and playing it often feels like a strange fever dream (which, y'know, appropriate). I think this actually makes SMB2 more interesting to play than SMB, and the tighter controls make it a bit more fun too.

The original NES release has a pretty awful lives system, and the game is hard enough that were I not playing with the aid of save states I'd have likely quit out of frustration.

I prefer the Lost Levels than this game. I literally hated the level design in the first worlds. WHAT WAS THAT WORLD 2 to WORLD 3. the difficutly wasn´t balanced. Why the world 6 is easier than the first worlds. this game lacks level design and reuses a lot of musics. some bosses are unfair as hell. specially the last ones that require a lot of very good timing. The game is frustating sometimes so please if you want to have a life don´t play it.

A fine game that really steps it up in the last world. It just does so many interesting stuff in that last world that twists the others before it in an interesting way. 4 character option is interesting.

Also way too difficult for its own good without an infinite lives cheat. I turned one on after about world 3. Part of a trend at the time where every sequel had to do something weird: castlevania 2, zelda 2, and a couple others i'm not thinking of.

And yes I know that its doki doki literature club or picnic or whatever with a different pallette and a few other changes. Please just don't beat me up.

8/10

did not really love this. the platforming feels so sticky and the levels so clunkily-designed in comparison to the first and third games. has the same ending as mulholland drive

Great change of pace from the first. The character selection is welcome and the introduction of Mouser is neat, a villain that we should see more in the Mario universe but never do.

The official romhack by Nintendo, and a really weird official Mario entry.

I don't think it's that good, being honest. I prefer The Lost Levels over this nonsense game with bad level design. The usage of more than Mario is great and all but I just can't get behind those levels that are just plain unremarkable for me, truly a game I wouldn't replay just because it's not that good.

Play Mario 3 instead.

introduced the timeless videogame mechanic: turnip pulling

When I was 4 I never got far in this game because Phanto gave me nightmares

fuck this games boring ass poo poo ass game

Not sure why I like this game so much but it is my favourite of the NES SMB games, and by a long shot too.

Underrated and kinda never gets talked about

My least favorite of the 3 NES titles. It's pretty weird and playing as Luigi is awful. Other than that it's fine. Good soundtrack ig.

In this house we stan Luigi.

I love the kino ending of this game!!!

The act of running and jumping has never been less fun in the Mario franchise

While different from other Mario games, it still was kind of fun at the start. I ended up getting stuck though and stopped playing because I wasn't really enjoying it much up to that point anyway

I think I've swallowed the Toad Kool-Aid.

Why does this trash exist? Did the developers go on a massive fucking LSD trip?

this game is so hard but it feels so good to beat it

Sickest of the original trilogy, we need the Mario 2 mechanics back.

Haven't played this one a lot, it's a bit difficult.

Forgotten game. Kind of a fever dream.
