FIrst thing me and my friend did when we entered this game was murder our third friend

The best game I've ever played

HOW HAVENT I BEAT THIS GAME YET

My relationship with Divinity: Original Sin II started a tad rocky. My introduction to Larian (and to turn-based games) was with Baldur's Gate 3, which I love to bits. Still on Act 1, I nearly gave up on Divinity.

Part of the reason was the characters. While I was intrigued by Sebille and Lohse, I couldn't say any of them had fascinated me as much as nearly the entire cast of BG3. But the biggest reason was that I didn't "get" the game. The mechanics are significantly different and more complex than BG3, and I found myself losing a lot of battles, even to enemies that looked simple and weak. But when I finally understood how the game works, I was able to play it and properly enjoy it!

The characters grew on me, especially my corpse-eating sweetheart, Sebille, and the narrative with its twists and turns kept me engaged even as the game seems a lot longer and denser than BG3. The technology gap - and the more limited resources, no doubt - is extremely clear here. I mean, just compared the sex scenes... 😅

In the end, Divinity proved to be another of Larian's fantastic works, even if I don't see myself creating 10+ characters as I did with BG3. (I am, however, currently playing a Tactician run with Sebille as my MC! I'll probably stop at two runs, though.)

Played this game with friends and it was fun, but man it was long and the story was very hard for us to follow (by the end, none of us knew what was going on in the main story).

As a newcomer to the action role-playing game (ARPG) genre, diving into Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition on the PS5 was an intriguing and challenging experience. Without prior exposure to its predecessor, I chose to start on this adventure as Lohse, accompanied by Sebille, Fane, and the Red Prince. Here’s a detailed look at what made this game both captivating and, at times, frustrating.

What I Liked

Deep Battle System:
The battle system in Divinity: Original Sin II is exceptionally intricate. While it took a while to grasp the mechanics fully, the complexity is rewarding once everything starts to click. The strategic depth keeps every encounter engaging and thought-provoking.
Meaningful Choices
One of the standout features is how the game handles choices. Unlike many games that push you towards clear good or evil paths, Divinity: Original Sin II offers a spectrum of moral ambiguity. Every decision you make carries consequences rather than moral judgments, adding a layer of realism and weight to your actions.
Rich Lore and Unique Fantasy Elements
The game’s lore is vast and filled with twists and turns that keep the narrative compelling. The fantasy elements are distinct and imaginative, making the world feel both familiar and refreshingly unique.
Entertaining Story
The storyline is well-crafted and occasionally humorous, providing a good balance between serious and light-hearted moments. This blend keeps the narrative from becoming too heavy, offering a well-rounded experience.
Freedom and Agency
The sense of freedom in Divinity: Original Sin II is remarkable. The ability to tackle the world and influence the story through your actions and dialogue choices is incredibly satisfying. It truly feels like you are shaping the narrative based on your playstyle and decisions.

What I Didn’t Like

Horrendous Loading Times
One of the most significant drawbacks of the PS4 version is the long loading times(even on PS5!). Quick loads often take several minutes, breaking immersion and testing patience, especially during frequent transitions.
Clunky Controls
Playing with a controller can be quite janky and unintuitive. The control scheme doesn’t translate well in the PS4 version, making some actions more cumbersome than they should be.
Steep Difficulty Curve
The game’s difficulty, particularly in the early stages, can be discouraging for newcomers. The challenging combat and mechanics may deter those who are not already familiar with ARPGs.
Lengthy Campaign
While a long game can be a positive for those seeking extensive content, Divinity: Original Sin II sometimes feels overly prolonged. There were multiple instances where I believed I was nearing the end, only to discover there were still many hours left. This can lead to a sense of fatigue and impatience.
Unsatisfactory Endings
After investing so much time, the endings felt somewhat underwhelming. The culmination of the journey didn’t provide the payoff I hoped for, leaving a bit of a hollow feeling.
Everything leads down a hatch?
Why is everyone doing some shenanigans in a basement? It seems like a common loop, was to enter a house and go down a secret basement. It's not very imaginative after the tenth time you do it.

Divinity II is a masterfully crafted ARPG with deep mechanics, rich lore, and a high degree of player agency. However, the PS4 version is marred by technical issues and a steep learning curve that may put off new players. For those willing to endure the long loading times and challenging controls, it offers a rewarding and immersive experience that stands out in the genre.

Tirando o fato que o jogo se recusa a acabar, ele é bem legal

didnt get to play it much but it was kinda fun

JOGASSO, SE TU N TEM FRESCURA DE N GOSTAR DE TURNO, JOGUE AGORA. (2023)

Estava empolgado com o game devido a bela repercussão dele, mas não é pra mim, muita história e pouca gameplay

An improvement over the first one, way better combat system, played solo and enjoyed it way more. I`ll play a 4 player campaign soon and update this review

It sucked me dry at the moment of coming to the Nameless Isle, and the battle system seems so fucking frustrating to me. Like, there're 2 types or armor, and you either make your party phys/magic damage only, or get fucked by enemies, 'cause, you know, 2 types of armor.

There's no point in making your team diverse. Literally.

All of mine complaints to this game are about the battle system. I can't say anything REALLY BAD about the plot. It's... fine, I think, though dialogues sometimes can be really confusing or dumb, imo.

Oh, and overuse of persuasion in this game is CRAZY. Just damn.

However, the humor is actually fun, exploring & quests too. Don't have much to say about companions and their stories tbh, but Fane's one is actually intriguing and pleasant!

That's it. Have no idea what to say anymore.

Great gameplay, charming writing and story. Larian are experts at the genre.

This was larian's pre-baldur's gate 3, fully voiced and everything. combat doesn't flow as smoothly and the writing isn't as good (but still MUCH better than a lot of other games), but for 2018 this game is still really good in terms of RPG gaming and replay value. There's honestly no reason to buy this now that BG3 is out. The only reasons you would are because A: you've finished baldur's gate 3 in every way possible and still want more B: don't have enough money for BG3 but will catch a D:OS II on sale C: you only own a switch but want to play BG3

i like this game a normal amount. fun to play with friends but i had the most fun with it alone. it's not the best game i've played, but it is my favourite for many reasons — it's unpolished, but in a way that is more charming rather than annoying, the performances are wonderful, and the combat is unlike anything i've ever experienced, and made me a turn-based rpg fan.

you'll probably feel some frustration as the game trudges towards the end (larian is notoriously awful at realizing their final areas) but it's an amazing experience all the while. i like it better than baldur's gate 3.

"i sacrificed much, and i'd give even more to see you become exactly what you've become." <3

This game hits all the highs that a game of it's style should hit. Deep characters with rich interpersonal interactions, a decent enough story, and a very fluid and free progression system that can make any combat scenario unique. Very very worth the time to play
