Turning towards a new era of MH, this title was quite ambitious and really overhauled a lot of that I would say some was definitely for the better. But still brought along many problems as it abandoned many things that were already fine enough. It was also a sort of return to form, so many people was not expecting to go back to the MH1 weapon lineup sans LS and the newly introduced Switch Axe.
It had a pretty good handle for a solo experience, not as fun as Dos but this being a bit more modern I think people can definitely have fun with the village portion. The online though, definitely felt like there was a huge conflict of interest in how they wanted to design the whole thing overall and it left one of the messiest feeling online progression of the mainline titles. My personal biggest gripe was how they handled the weapons, their controls are generally more than fine but made hitting the monsters with it feeling very unsatisfying, one big thing missing would be the near removal of Hitlag, which will be a repeat thing with this generation of MH.

I do consider this another important MH milestone though, so it is worth playing just for the value of that alone. There is also a fanserver up for this game so you can experience all of what this game has to offer.

It's not my favourite Monster Hunter game but it's the most important for me.

Just the fact of thinking about this game makes me feel things, just the fact of hearing the OST makes me tear up. Feeling nostalgic about a game I did not play back in 2009 but pretty recently. What a wonderful experience.

I love the swimming mechanics I don't care what anyone says.

My first Monster Hunter game!

It's honestly so weird to think that was was a lot of peoples' gateway into the series (prior to World, obviously) was the game that basically had the fewest monsters. Most of them were original too. I did enjoy the time I had with this one, though, especially knowing as little about the series as I did at the time. Fond memories typing in that incredibly cramped Wii online chat and making friends I'd never talk to again.

Also never really minded the underwater stuff, Lagi's actually still one of my favorite monster fights. The fishing stuff for the Gobul level was really cool too, would honestly love to see more stuff like that in the future.
