two of the biggest gaming franchises of all time and all that they could come up with was the triple jump

It's no Wii Sports, but it's got a ton of fun minigames up its sleeves.

Imagine how demoralizing it was for kids in the 2000s, pining for an official Mario & Sonic crossover game, only to get a glorified advertisement for the Beijing Olympic Games.

This is gold in disk form.

When I dreamt about Mario and Sonic doing a crossover that would be legendary, this isn't exactly what I had in my mind.

Regardless, it exists and honestly, it's decent. Despite the weird idea of Mario, Sonic, and their friends competing in the Olympic Games, it's admittedly a fun concept. But the concept of them being in a fighting game definitely would've been better. (Yes, I know we got Super Smash Bros Brawl a year later, but still.) In terms of enjoyment, I've only played this game whenever my family wanted to or if I was bored. It's just the mere fact this game is an Olympic Games simulator instead of a fighting game that doesn't really give me much incentive to dedicate a lot of time on it. With that, it's more like a "one-and-done" kind of game. I didn't even play the sequels just from pure disinterest.

It's not a bad game by any means and some of the sports are fun, but I never see myself actively replaying it.

When i was a kid i skydived as bowser on this game and that unironically broke my wii. Other than that though pretty good

Do you think there’s a possibility that Cream is secretly not cool with Vector having a crush on her mom, and this is the main reason she applied to be a referee in the Olympics?

or am I just thinking too hard about the logistics of a 6-year-old cartoon rabbit being handed a gun for athletic events—

not as good as the winter games one :P

Kept me hooked maybe 8 years ago.

this was about as fun as suicide or something i couldn’t think of an analogy. i don’t know why this game sucks so much

Me playing against my younger cousin :
"You are unbeatble to the 100m dash. How do reach that level?
- Seven more years of masturbation practice than you, thats's my secret kiddo."

I played this for a bit, thought the concept was real cool and loved that there were so many characters from both franchises to play as, but all the events are so watered-down, I feel like I'm playing a demo reel of a bunch of failed Next Level Games failures. Oh, and the controls sucked, this was before Wii Motion PLUS.

I KIND OF LIVE FOR IT EVERYONE CAN PIPE DOWN

MEU DEUS DO CEU, EU VOU DELIRAR, ALGUEM ME SEGURA, UM DOS MELHORES DE FATO, É SINISTRO, É MARAVILHOSO, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, COMO DA 6 ESTRELAS????????????????????????????????????????

Not the best party game ever. Not that interesting of an idea for a Mario & Sonic crossover either. Doesn't utilize either IP that well. But it's competent in its own way I guess

This was a neat idea back before they ran it into the ground by making one for every Olympics. It's just a minigame collection, but not a bad one and trying to beat the world records can be surprisingly addictive (although the difficulty of doing so very wildly between events).

Would you look at this, it's another minigame collection on the Wii. This one has the distinction of being the first real crossover game for Mario and Sonic, which at the time was a big deal. You could tell that it was a big deal too since most of the minigames here play well.

Each minigame, or event since they are all based on Olympic events, is designed well and can be replayed quite easily. Whether to beat friends or to beat a high score, so there is something here to bite into. There are even a couple of Deam Events, which are remixed versions of the available events that utilize aspects of Sonic or Mario's worlds. All of these are cool in concept.

The issue is that there are very few minigames to play, and most of these are very simple and can be completed in a matter of seconds if you do it right. The game tries to extend this time by using circuits as you would see in Mario Kart, but it just shows off the repetitiveness and tediousness of the games more.

At the very least, the game looks nice and does a good job of representing each series well. As the first game in the franchise, it needs more work done, but it is ok as is. Nothing memorable but not offensive either.

I once had a dream to get every gold medal with every character. But once I did that for like 2 characters, I realized this would be more tedious than I thought, so I gave up.

This game blew my mind when I first played through it. This was such a good game for many reasons and the character lineup was crazy for its time. I feel like this game specifically will be able to stand the test of time as one of the best sport/party games of all time, or at least for Nintendo.

This could’ve just been a sports game. Mario and sonic feel so unnecessary. If it were just a sports game it’d be pretty mediocre

We were expecting some epic open-world platforming adventure with two of gaming's most beloved icons but what we got was better than we expected

arguably the funniest of the mario sports games.
