Superstar Saga is easily the most underrated Mario game by a country mile. This game is nothing short of stellar, and thanks to its timeless art style holds up perfectly to this day. If you're a fan of Mario, RPGs, Mario RPGs, or fun, you need to check this game out as soon as possible.

I love this game please Nintendo don't stop making these.

super funny and cute, one of my favorite childhood games! wonderful music and characters

Fantastic first entry in the series. The characterization of these characters is a delight to see, and the gameplay and battles are very fun. No real critiques, but I do think the story and gameplay is often better in most of the following entries.

when i lost the save data to this game there were no hot women to comfort me

love cackletta, love popple, love fawful

I love this Game(franchise), dude how come Mario RPGs are so engaging and fun and literally rival top tier rpgs?
The mixture of humour and turn based system with a twist - such an amazing feast for the player. Bean Kingdom is an fantastic new locale and the amount of original characters you got is mesmerising. I can heavily recommend this one also played the 3ds remake which is a good remake with quality of life features and a slightly better pacing?(perhaps) this is a classic nevertheless and I come back for more annually.

No stand-out qualities. Looks fine. Writing is forgettable. Music is forgettable. Combat is way too easy.

I had this game as a kid, but I got stuck about halfway through. But I found it, and decided to give it another go! And what a rewarding adventure it was! This game is bursting with personality, even the two MCs who don't even say a word! The world is lively, the humor is odd but charming, and this game makes use of EVERY button, mechanic and good idea that it could spare. The game itself took me about 35 hours to beat, and I didn't have to backtrack or retry sequences too often (which is a HUGE plus for me).

What a great game!

although not my top pick among GBA games, shines with its engaging combat system, utilizing the A & B buttons, demanding precise timing. The antagonist Cackletta is solid, but it's the charismatic Fawful who steals the spotlight, making a lasting impression. The conclusion cleverly sets the stage for Bowser's Inside Story. While the storyline is decent, the game missed an opportunity for a more distinctive plot—perhaps bean-related, given the setting in the Beanbean Kingdom. Despite this, the UI design stands out, showcasing creativity that adds to the overall charm and appeal of the game.

Another game that makes me miss the golden age of Mario RPGs, great battle system, solid music, and hilarious writing. Doesn't overstay its welcome and gives you a fun trip into the Beanbean Kingdom.

One of the best Mario RPGs out there. Silly and just plain fun.

While i think the series really hit its stride on the DS, this is still iconic. Really good gameplay, music claps, just fun all around. Bit basic though

my favorite part of the game is the infinite bros. attacks. THEY ARE SO FUN

Felt this game overstayed it's welcome a bit. Beanstar pieces section could have been left out. Overall though it's an enjoyable game, the timing based actions kept it interesting.

when people say they like the M&L RPGs, what they usually mean is that they like bowser's inside story - cause most of the other ones aren't that remarkable (sorry dream team, ily). superstar saga's aesthetic value is what kept me invested - the game's got a good sense of humor, and the spritework makes me miss looking at flipnote studio when i was 9 years old. advance attacks are also pretty satisfying to pull off, once you know what you're doing.
other than that though, it's not too interesting. bros attacks are way less plentiful and flashy compared to other games, the game was overall too easy (other than cackletta soul and that fucking crab, along with some bullshit attacks you're expected to defend against), and playing this on a regular GBA with no backlight didn't feel great. it's decently fun, it's got value, but it's not something i'm ever gonna come back to.

I don't think children are built to be able to beat the final boss. I'm 22 and that shit hard as fuck. I have to be honest some of these puzzles for children really humbled me. I think i am stupid

The surplus of overworld abilities makes exploration clunky in the later half of the game, and combat could sometimes feel unresponsive, but overall I had a great time with this. That Mario RPG charm just can't be beat sometimes. From the charming dialogue, the catchy music, and the expressive spritework, it's hard not to like this game.

You can absolutely feel that this was the first entry in the series, and I'm glad some of the clunkier elements get smoothed out a bit in later entries.

Prince Peasley goated with the sauce.

assuming the mushroom kingdom represents italy (because mario is italian) does this mean the beanbean kingdom represents austria?

The best Mario RPG game still.
Full of charm and unbound rizz making it a pleasure to play with its smooth animations and unique characters.

Toad being flabbergasted by Mario's schlong was a reminder to me that video game's are art. Nice, simple and efficient rpg with a real earworm of a battle theme

Another good Mario RPG. My only issue this time around were the controls, but the developers did what they could with the GBA’s limited buttons so I can’t hold that over them. Still a fun time with a wacky cool story!
