A straight up improvement in every regard from its predecessors, PaRappa 2 easily lands its place as the best game of the trilogy. I love a lot of the PlayStation 2’s early offerings as they almost represent the end of an era, back when short, sub-20 hour games were commonplace in your console library alongside your 40+ hour behemoths. In less than two hours I finished the main game while having pure groove injected into my veins. The game overall just strikes that specific hip-hop chord for me especially compared to the first game. I’m also happy to say that PaRappa 2 unironically has great gameplay! It’s extremely easy on the default difficulty but I love the looseness of the freestyle system and the input interpreter feels just right. This is a fantastic game, emblematic of my favorite era of games and the attitude surrounding their development. It’s short, fun, and worth your time. Play this!

PaRappa the Rapper 2 is one of those sequels that takes everything that was good about the previous games, and just makes it better!

The presentation has seen a boost thanks to the PlayStation 2's power, with more detailed environments, and slight shading on the 2D characters, which is nice to see.
The songs are also really well made, and are probably my favourite in the series, just because I was groovin' to most of them.

And they fixed the biggest issue that I had previously, the timings are now not nearly as weird as before. I was also able to improvise more on the fly now, compared to before, and get away with it, which made the gameplay feel more interesting.
I know the improv. mechanic was in previous games as well, but this time, because of the looser timings, I was able to pull it off better.
There is even a bonus game that you play a few times during the game's story, just to add more variety, and I appreciate it.

The story also is a bit more "epic" than last time, as the gang has to fight off a noodle invasion, and there's an actual antagonist now, which is interesting.

Even Lammy shows up a bit here and there in the story, and it's cool seeing PaRappa and Lammy interact, even for how small those interactions are.

Overall, PaRappa the Rapper 2 is an improvement over what came previously, and it's just a really fun rhythm game! Go check it out if you're curious.

the good kid maad city of video games

You may think I'm joking about this rating but this is seriously a great game. Cute visuals, excellent gameplay for a rhythm game, a wacky plot, a fucking slapping soundtrack, and a ton of undeniable charm make for one of the best rhythm games and an unforgettable experience.

I think something is lost in trying to give Parappa The Rapper a bigger and more fleshed out narrative compared to the charming compilation of moments that were the first game. In trying to make more sense, it somehow made worse sense - but overall still cute and endearing.

I’m shit at Rhythm heaven. Total garbage at Friday Night Funkin’. But I beat this game and loved all its charm. Sooo Why is that?……

(shit I know..)……

I GOTTA BELIEVE!

"I gotta Belive!"

Even as someone who really loves this game and Parrapa as a franchise, I'm not sure if I'd recommend them. The rhythm sections are extremely simple by todays standards and the replayability is extremely lacking. It's a game that is entirely held up by its charm, but when the charm is just this fucking good, then its extremely worth it to me. Really wish they'd make a new one.

I did not expect to fuck with this game as much so much. All of the songs were a joy to play. I really appreciate them finally adding difficulties for replay value. I also heard that the amount of difficulties there are is insane. The presentation improved even more with the ps2 and its such an awesome sequel. This game is hip-hop.

Wish the story mode was more than just 2 hours of content, but the visual presentation and characters are great. I especially loved the part when noodle guy said "Chinese." That shit hit different.

Also the emulation on PS4/5 is kinda lacking but excusable.
If you have $10 to burn on the PS Store, I highly recommend this game.

Growing up surrounded by all the Parappa memes (chinese), all the music (Big, Toasty Buns, Noodles Can't Be Beat, etc), and the colorful artstyle... I guess you can say I've been Parappa pilled since I was very young. However, I only recently got my hands on a copy Parappa The Rapper 2 (so expensive... oh man) and finally experienced the game for myself.

Before this, all I had played was the brutally unfair first stage of Umjammer Lammy (on an old PS1 Jampack demo disc) and maybe tried the PSP version of Parappa 1, but I was blown away at how much this game helps the player adjust to the button mashing playstyle. Practice mode is extremely helpful and fun, and having the inputs get simpler during a song when you're ranking BAD/AWFUL feels less like an insult (like in the older entries) and more like the game itself is trying to help you. It makes it so much easier to pick up and play.

The soundtrack is, in my opinion, easily better than the first game. Whereas the first game did have some bangers (❗️❗️) I feel like a lot of those songs' lyrics emphasized actions (kick punch chop crack crack left right Blah blah), something that they do a whole lot less in here. I find that it makes the songs WAY more listen-able and they stand strong even as standalone songs. The instrumentals are genuinely godlike, the production is so good that even the BAD/AWFUL versions of each track are worth listening to.

The whole noodle story is so goofy, I wouldn't have it any other way. 2 player mode is so much fun, even if it is just button mashing. I really really miss when games were this colorful, silly, groovy, and fun.

It's a short game that I think everyone could find enjoyment out of, even if they think the original game is "outdated". Every button you press gets stamped on the slider, so the game makes sure every mistake you make is your fault. And you know it. Oh yeah, and obligatory noodles reference. noodles.

As músicas são melhores e ele tem uma duração melhor do que a do primeiro. Mas que caralho foi essa história com macarrão vei? Que droga esses cara fumou???

Hey pretty good stuff actually! They actually made the timings fit for an LCD so I found it much more playable than the first game. The songs aren't as memorable as the studio's PS1 games but I quite like the Big song tbh.

It's too bad this game was a flop and this type of game fell out of style, but when it cost $90 adjusted for inflation I really can't blame people for the lukewarm response. Parappa 1 was considered innovative, but Parappa 2 competed with quite a lot of juggernauts like DDR so the hour long runtime didn't really impress audiences. Which is a shame, since I think it still holds its own rather well next to the titans.

Also the game has Lammy in it, so automatically a 10/10 game in spirit. I was surprised just how much she was featured since I remembered her only having a 5 second cameo in the anime!

Anyway who all eating the Parappa 2 pizza with me? https://i.imgur.com/lukW4xd.png

I can see the graphical leap in PaRappa 2, but the original despite being worse to play is a much more memorable experience. Plot is a little weird, though doesn’t leave much of an impression by the end. I do love the loading screen, and they say these things should be removed or are boring…

With this current beef between Drake and Kendrick, PaRappa is the only one who can step in and demolish both of them without even trying

The best music game of all time. No one can deny Parappa's charm, and this one does everything right, I love every little detail of this game. The music is so good and catchy, and the story and callbacks to the previous games are great. Every aspect of Parappa 2 is so much fun, I'm sad this was the last entry. Just remember to not win yourself a lifetime supply of noodles guys.

Mil vezes melhor que o 1, esse realmente dá pra sentir que ao apertar os botões você está em um jogo de ritmo

I GOTTA BELIEVE

I used to think the idea of doing rap battles by reapeting everything your opponent says was pretty dumb, but now I realize how wrong I was. First of all, they're not battles, they're classes; all the characters are mentors who are teaching PaRappa, so you learn from them by doing as they do. However, they all tell you right before their songs to NOT just repeat them, to come up with your own stuff; that's because that is the best way to learn not just music but everything in life: you CAN just repeat everything your mentors do and get by with that, but to truly grow and improve, you have to take what you learn and remix it, modify it and make it your own, take your master's techniques and change them up and combine them to make a new unique, never-seen-before style. And don't forget to have fun while you do it too.

A review of this game was eaten by a rapper dog who must believe himself. Believe me.

such a glow-up from the og. one of the best rhythm games out there

PaRappa 2 é bem curtinho, principalmente se ignorar a história mas ainda é muito dahora, tem personalidade e carisma inegável, queria muito a franquia de volta.

Unironically pretty great, I was pretty surprised by how quickly things go completely off the rails but it was so much fun to watch everything unfold so rapidly in such an absurd way. The soundtrack here is so charming and there’s clearly a lot of genuine effort placed into this area of the game, the gameplay itself is seemingly super simple but the freestyle mechanics are pretty unique and give the game a really interesting twist. Super short but a great concentrated shot of fun with near unmatched personality and energy

Have not been able to finish a game recently man either due to finishing up my sophomore year in college or my dogshit time management or getting bored of stuff quickly but I am so glad I gave Parappa 2 a shot out of nowhere cause once I played the first level I basically played the entire game in one sitting

While I am still fond of the original especially stylistically I could not wrap my head around the timing on whatever platform I tried it on this one in comparison is a lot easier as I beat every level 1st try or so because of how many chances it gives you to pick up the slack, however, it makes up for the general lax difficulty by giving you some genuinely insanely quality songs, of course, the lyrics are those charming and childish bars about doing mundane things but the instrumentals paired with everything on screen bumping to it really brings it to life for me. People told me I'd love this game but holy damn I really do.

Generally, I'd say I have problems in the very few-and-far-between variety it's a little annoying having the practice round come up every time and the 6th level is a very far outlier in quality but you can always skip the practice thing and the 6th level is still enjoyable I will say this game also doubled down on cutscenes but me personally I love the hell out of Parappa's humor and oddball character animation so really a problem for people who don't yk

Writing 2 paragraphs about a game that's maybe 4 hours long is a little crazy but to sum it up nicely into a package Parappa the Rapper 2 reminds me of a cartoon I would have loved as a kid with a banging ass soundtrack and weirdly addicting gameplay as I replayed the game already before writing this.
