The story mode is a lot of what one would hope for from a Mortal Kombat campaign. It's pretty ridiculous and there's some really awesome moments for a lot of great characters of the franchise. That said, it's not as satisfying as 11's story. Most character arcs are left almost entirely unresolved with Sonya Blade being the really only one that feels satisfying, and the combat's a little slower and heavier than I prefer - it feels closer to an Injustice game than the type of MK that I like. Not to say it's not fun though. The loadouts and cosmetics are great, and it's a FANTASTIC roster with some really great DLC characters.
I can confirm this is the best game of the reboot trilogy after playing it for 600+ hours and its predecessor.
Pros
-Tons of replay value with the dlc characters
-open ended combos
-the best fatalities in the series and it introduced brutalities
-fast paced gameplay with fun meter management
-going through the krypt in first person was a welcome change
-arcade towers is a fun distraction for the character specific endings
-extensive online modes like king of the hill
minor complaints
-online netcode was passable but could've been better
-no tag team mode from mk9
-tutorial should have added character specific combos
-getting koins should be faster.
cons
-rain sindel and baraka all have full movesets in the single player yet they were never playable characters
-50/50 gameplay and combos doing 40% or more damage is oppressive, especially to casuals
-gameplay lacks neutral (both sides have no advantage or disadvantage)
-some of the S tier characters are broken or provide too much value for how braindead easy they are to use
-faction wars are meaningless because everyone just picks the same factions
-variations were executed poorly since 1 variation overshadows the others
-unsatisfying ending due to some characters having way too much plot armor.
-Main vilian is very boring and it takes awhile to warm up to.
-most of the story and offline modes were forgettable
I have no desire to go back to this nowadays, but I would play mkx over mk1 and 11 anyday even with the lack of neutral game. I should mention its playable with keyboard and it is more consistent than controller.

im not rlly well into mortal kombat as a series, so as a result i didnt have any prior expectations other than it being a fighting game thts rlly over the top and fun to beat ppl in
and it does both those things!! i also just dont understand fucking anything about the devs tht make these

This was the MK game of my teenage years, and it was definitely a fun time when playing with friends. The lighting for the game kinda blows and it results in some stages being borderline unplayable for me. The cast was solid and the three variations per fighter brought more possibilities to gameplay. Story was fine
Mortal Kombat XL is a great fighting game when it comes to characters and abilities, I was never into the MK story because the other MK games that I played was 1,2,4 and 11.
Gameplay the game takes into 12 chapters with different arenas and locations, here you are gonna find iconic characters from the retro arcade ones but with different changes, you get a lot of combos and character unlockables and you can actually make a faction. It also has multiple gamemods to play around and the XL edition can be found fairly cheap on 3rd party sites for extra DLCs.
Story again, the cutscenes were cool but if you want a good MK when it comes to story you could play deadly alliance, it's a short game if you want to binge it in one day. but the story in MK10 takes place 25 years after MK9 and it's mainly focused on Shinnok and Quan Chi as antagonists.
Bonus I watched the MK movies but they are not canon in this timeline so yeah, the first MK movie is more related to the older games about Liu-Kang fighting his way out to avenge his younger brother by defending Shang Tsung, never watched documentaries about the new lore in the new universe with the revenants because I found it to be boring.

A história eu acho bem fraca pra falar a verdade.
