Planet Coaster ran so Planet Zoo could fly. This game is super in depth and really pays attention to every detail that you would probably manage in a real zoo. This game still retains most of Planet Coaster's clunky building controls, but just like Coaster you will eventually learn them and most likely find them pretty intuitive. This is a must-play game in my own honest opinion, especially if you like simulation games or building pretty structures in games.
I wanted to go into zookeeping, but my general health and mental struggles have stopped me from pursuing it. I can say as someone who has had training in college and Uni, that this is a love letter to zoos and conservation. It really makes my heart happy to play a game like this, providing a modern update to awesome games like zoo tycoon which have had sequels that miss the mark. The devs love animals and love this game, and it shows.
For me this was one of those games that you try day one, play a couple of hours, then don't touch for a few years. Then after a long time on the shelf you try it again and can't put it down.
The gameplay is challenging and can be hard while you are still learning, but once you get the hang of it you really start to love the game. What got me into Planet Zoo was watching content creators on Youtube that inspired me to be more creative in my builds. The DLCs in this game also allows a lot of content that can help to make your dream zoo a reality.

Zoo Tycoon 2 was my favorite game of all time, so when I heard Planet Zoo by Frontier was coming out, I was beyond excited. This game has taken leaps and bounds in the graphics and technology department, but that also has made it extremely challenging and complex. Not that it is a bad thing, it just didn't have the incredible charm the original franchise did. However, this is one of best sims I have played in a very long time. Well done!
Might go back to this to try the Sandbox mode but really struggled going through the early scenarios. I think Zoo Tycoon is about as complex as a management sim can get for me, just so many damn menus just to hire extra staff. Also not a fan of the "animal market" mechanic even if I completely understand why they went that direction.
I think this game is too complex. It might be a good thing for some, specially for the most creative who have a lot of patience. For the people who want it simple I don't recommend this one.
The graphics are good; There are a lot of animals but things aren't that easy to decipher. And the path system sucks! I wish I could make paths as easy as in Zoo Tycoon but I simply can't unless I use some sort of gaming hack

This is definitely a game that's not completely "done" for me; I could create more in sandbox mode for HOURS. Plus I'm biased because I grew up on Zoo Tycoon. Those games were chefs kiss.
But I did complete some of the challenges and I completed my first sandbox zoo which was all the African animals. I love the creativity to build unique exhibits and decor across your zoo.
Hats off to the creators because the animals look and sound amazing! Their eyes look so lifelike it's beautiful. I love making the exhibits and just watch the animals. My lion would flick her ears like flies were bothering her. My hippo would swim under water. I built a ride through my Springbok exhibit...and then watched them sleep on the rail tracks to trap the ride.
There were some small annoyances like an animal would escape but it actually wasn't out of its exhibit. It happened every so often and wouldn't stop. I wasn't quite sure what the issue was either. There's an entire mode I haven't touched; there's so much to do and it's constantly being updated by the devs. You can tell love is put in the game.

Similar on how Two Point Hospital took inspiration from Theme Hospital, Planet Zoo is like a modern Zoo Tycoon. However, instead of just being a new version of the original, Planet Zoo feels like its own game, with the main focus being on the animals themselves.
The animals all look amazing, they move and act extremely well, have babies, grow up and (sadly die). They can get ill if you’re not keeping their habitat clean, and keeping them happy is a major important point. While you can just plonk down the requirements of the animal and some basic fences, it’s also possible to create some amazingly elaborate habitats with the building tools in the game – or just download bluepirnts that others have made.
For a management sim, the rain and snow also look very impressive, with attention to detail regarding places that would be sheltered. The campaign mode is also well done, with lots of options for creating your own from scratch, to a sandbox mode with unlimited funds.
