I recall really enjoying the game at the time, but unfortunately I can retrospectively see massive flaws in game and story design.
Nonetheless, the game has a nostalgic place in my heart.

Was going to mark this as shelved, but honestly… I don’t think I see myself ever going back to this one. I get why it was a big deal, my friends went nuts for this game, but it was a chore for me to keep going in the story, not to mention answering all of cousin Roman’s calls. Respect the hell out of this game for its contribution for the open world genre, but not exactly for me.

Simplesmente o melhor GTA e o meu GTA favorito.

Porém, o protagonista real desse jogo é a cidade.

The gameplay is so good and the story has their potential, but the missions r too repetitive, go there and kill someone...

Where should I start?

Normally I don't do things like that but this time I have to.
I never played GTA IV when it got released and decided to catch up on that.

I played the PS3 version (because I don't play on PC and still have my PS3 kicking) and oh boy....does this look like shit.
No seriously, the PS3 version is on today's standards (2023) an utter disaster. Everything is blury, it runs most of the times between 10-20 fps but the load times are not as bad as I feared.

It diminished the fun I had with the game and I would recommend to play the PC version because even without mods the vanilla version is far superior

best story for the gta games and fun open world

Never before has a single mistake effected a game's quality as much as GTA 4. At it's core, GTA 4 is a spectacular game that's unfortunately utterly ruined by a lack of checkpoints, making the game borderline unfinishable.

I rarely mark a game down for being too hard, but GTA 4 can be outright unfair in later story missions, and losing 20-30 minutes of progress to an off-screen death makes GTA 4 an absolute chore to play.

Story starts interesting but barely limps to the end

blud wanted to be GTA V so badly

all i did was hit people with my car

Game is good but has aged a bit. The opening is very slow, but the game gets really good once you get past that.

My main issues are the lack of checkpoints, the driving being kind of wonky, and how some missions start from a phone call that you can't start on your own, making you do the mission whether you want to or not, which can be made worse if you don't have full health or much ammo.

Playing on PC the port is also really bad, with one of the endings being broken unless you change your display settings to 1280 x 720 at 60hz, which is insane.

The soundtrack that was made for this game is great but the actual licensed song list is a mixed bag, the Rock station is among the best stations in any GTA, but the rest of the stations are really lacking, especially the classic hip hop station. Where are the classic East Coast rappers like Biggie, Run DMC, Wu Tang, Beastie Boys, Boogie Down Productions, etc, etc?

The story is the highlight of the game and it is something great for a GTA game but I will say that the serious story and the over the top setting of GTA can get sort of in the way of each other. For a prime example one pivotal scene focuses on the Statue of Liberty, or the Statue of Happiness as it is called in this game, as a sort of dark theme of the American Dream being just that a dream, but the statue in this game is Hillary Clinton holding a Hot Coffee cup as a shot fired at Clinton for trying to get San Andreas banned, which really weakens the impact of the scene. The story can also feel a little cluttered at times, with some missions feeling almost like their barely attached, a prime example being the character Bernie's missions, at least one of which isn't even required to beat the game.

All in all I recommend the game but just be aware it has aged a bit more than people make it out to be, and I don't see how many claim it to be the "Most Underrated GTA" when the Stories games exist and this is one of the highest rated games of all time.

The best GTA Game. Let's play bowling.

Welcome to America! So this is what the dream feels like? This is the victory we longed for.

I have a lot of history with this game. From initially playing it as a friends house on the XB360 when I was 13, I was blown away by this game. It certainly did not feel like anything that GTA 3, Vice City or San Andreas had to offer. As a kid I used GTA IV as my playground and never really thought about the story. Then came along GTA the complete edition. I managed to persuade my father to buy me this game as I was 15. When I got this game on my PlayStation 3 I was able to really get into the story a lot more than I did at 13 but I felt like the story although being good, did not catch my attention as much as I still used GTA as more as a playground to do all the naughty things. I still remember some key elements in the game but I felt like it just came and went.

Coming to replay this in 2023, I felt like I have matured more and I am able to enjoy the story and its city elements, gone is the whole playground aspect of me trying to do all the whacky things this game offer. I believe GTA IV is the best Rockstar has to offer in terms of a gritty and dark GTA. I felt like I could "Relate" more to the Niko Bellic. Although he is a criminal he still had some tough choices to make. Flawed and sympathetic as he is violent. The other games do not offer this kind of character motivation than maybe GTA Vs Franklin. It really felt at times I was dealing with the consequences of my actions.

This is also a very DENSE & ALIVE city. I felt like anytime I went onto my next mission there was something always happening. This is certainly something that the other GTAs did not offer and was actually a HUGE improvement. Every Island felt connected as you were going through the story mode. it always felt seamless. Just hearing other people and their 2008 cellphones just reminds me of how much we really relied on those and used Internet cafes lol. The city certainly feels dated at times but there is a Charm to it and I love it.

As for Combat and Driving. Combat is probably at its peak here. Drawing inspiration from previous games that used Tactical Cover Mechanics. GTA IV is no different. Every bullet I took really felt like it was my own fault for not checking a corner or just to see how good I am going in guns blazing. There certainly was consequences. The physics engine they use here should also receive a mention because it felt real at time if you shot someone in their hand or body they would react to where they were shot be impaired for a bit before picking up their weapon and start firing. Certainly had fun with this mechanic. As for Driving, it certainly was some getting used to. You actually feel the weight of each car and its handling. I think they went a little too realistic here but it did not deter me from ever driving and if I did not want to drive I could always use the Fast Travel Taxi Mechanic. It's certainly a hit or miss from the folks I talk to about this game but I did not mind after the 1st act of this game.

Overall GTA IV is the blueprint that Rockstar used in all of its open world games during the Generation and you can see the inspirations even with the release of GTA V. I believe this game is the best the franchise has to offer in terms of Story and its Characters. Who can forget those Iconic Loading screens and mesmerizing music. I absolutely recommend this game if you have not played this in a while especially on Modern systems where you can push it to its limits like 60 FPS and cleaner graphics.

Probably my favourite GTA game (unless GTA VI turns out to be as good as RDR2)

greatest GTA ever made ! I love Liberty City

I never really liked GTA games. I don't understand what's so fun about them at the end of the day.

Pretty easily my favorite GTA. Niko is my favorite main character, and the cast is super memorable. Plus, I really like the driving in this game. It feels like you’re trying to drive a boat through NYC and it’s a lot of fun.

I don’t know if I’ll finish my replay of this game because I’m kinda sick of super violent games, and the mission structure got kind of old after a few hours. I especially hate the missions where I have to tail cars. The driving AI is pretty bad, so those missions are super tedious.

Still a classic though and this game will always have a special place in my heart.

An attempt to be a more gritty and downcast entry compared to its predecessors. But going for a more serious tone backfires horribly and flies in the face of all the cartoonish mayhem that your average GTA player will inevitably cause on the streets.

Throw in awful car controls, ugly visuals and, most maddeningly of all, unforgiving checkpoints that make you listen to huge streams of dialogue over and over again, and you've got yourself perhaps the weakest mainline GTA entry.
