It's kind of ironic that I finished this game only a couple days after Capcom announced it would finally get an official translation. Obviously, this review is based on the excellent fan translation. This game was hyped up to me as the best in the series and the worst in the series by different people. I was skeptical after Investigations 1 proved to be pretty underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the series, but this game is just as fantastic as people say. I'll do something I probably should have done with every game in the series and review each case individually.

Turnabout Target - What a fantastic opener, easily my favorite in the series. The stakes are the highest they've ever been in the series, dealing with a presidential assassination and tons of twists and turns that rival Turnabout Trump as the most complicated tutorial case. Honestly, I'd say this could have been later in the game but the short length means nothing overstays its welcome. Knightley is one of my favorite culprits and the return of de Killer is exciting and he's just as cool as he was before. Amazing start

The Imprisoned Turnabout - Easily the weakest case in the game. It has a really cool mystery but is held back by being way, way too long. They could easily have gotten away with just two or three parts, four is too long. If you take away how padded it is, it's still really good, introducing all the key characters for the game and like I said, the mystery is fantastic.

The Inherited Turnabout - Surprisingly, not my favorite. I still loved it, though. Switching between time periods is such a cool concept for a case and while it does feel really fanservice-y, getting to play as Gregory is fun I'll admit. The characters are top-notch with some hilarious, some tragic, and some hateable. The aesthetic and premise are also delightful, I love the idea of these people building massive sculptures of dessert (even if they were all frauds!).

The Forgotten Turnabout - Yeah, this one is my favorite, which I think is a hot take? Something about this just works so well for me. Blaise Debeste is such an evil culprit, you want to take him down so badly. Exposing the P.I.C. as being corrupt feels so rewarding considering how they've treated you in the past two cases as well. I love Kay losing her memories, it's such a bold storytelling decision that makes the mystery so much more interesting and it honestly doesn't feel that lazy when it's resolved. Also, the moment when Edgeworth relinquishes his badge is probably the best scene in the game. Just fantastic from a storytelling perspective.

The Grand Turnabout - Hot take, but this one didn't quite hit as hard for me. It felt really disjointed with all the different plotlines sort of abruptly stopping and starting. Characters tend to just kinda show up in this one without a whole lot of explanation, and Sebastian (or, sorry, Eustace) just completely disappears from the story after his arc finishes. That all being said, this case is still amazing. So many brilliant twists and turns, the way it ties the whole overarching narrative is so satisfying and cool, Simon in his villain persona is pretty menacing. Still a great finale, just overrated in my opinion.

So overall? Yeah, I think it's the best in the series so far, and might continue to be, depending on how good the stuff that comes after turns out. T&T has Bridge to the Turnabout, and nothing can top that, but this game is top-notch from start to end. Don't skip out on this one if Investigations 1 didn't do it for you - this game is absolutely worth plaiyng.

I played the fan translation. Very good game overall but fuck you Capcom for announcing the official localization right as I was finishing up the final case

an absolute crime that we did not get this game officially, inarguably in the top 2 of the franchise and in my opinion it's the best the series has ever been. The most engaging throughline mystery in the entire franchise and one of the strongest core casts.

*a now outdated review.

Cinema. (Arrastado mas ainda cinema)

Takeshi Yamazaki's magnum opus. Not quite up to snuff with Takumi's best, but lightyears better than most mystery writers.

Anyone taking stars away should only be doing so because it hasn't been ported. 😮‍💨 This game is exceptional.

Not the best ace attorney game in my opinion but still very good. It's just that its pacing in the middle chapters is kinda bad. Case 3 takes so long that you start not caring as much about the characters by the end. But all the new characters introduced here are phenomenal. Even the new judge, who starts off being extremely annoying, actually develops into a good character by the end.

great experience from start to finish

At the time of writing this, this is up there for being one of my favorite games in the Ace Attorney series by far.

Investigations 1 was basically the setup game for this masterpiece. That game had to setup the foundations for the gameplay mechanics, and the cases and stories were a bit weak in retrospect.

With Investigations 2, they already had the gameplay that they needed so they could focus on the characters and story. And boy did they execute it really well.

I love how all the cases and characters were connected to each other throughout the story. Not a single case was wasted, as this game also effectively broke the 3rd case curse (where the 3rd cases in Ace Attorney feel like filler and are disconnected from the narrative). Investigations 2 also has one of the coolest and clever plot twists ever in the series along with a really good antagonist to boot.

There a few things I wish the game could have done better, but none of those complaints dragged down the game for me at all.

After over 5 months of on and off play, I've finally completed Ace Attorney: Investigations 2. This game is brilliant, halfway through the clear theme of parent and child, as well as forging your own path become apparent, and they are written well. This game is also much longer than the first Investigations game, meaning if you liked that game you'll have even more fun with this one. The way the game ties together every single case, and it all culminating in the climactic final case is great. Simon Keyes is a great mastermind, since despite coming out of almost nowhere, once things start to build up, you realize just the kind of person he is, and how much he has built this plan. Some of the cases are by no means perfect, but the really good ones stand out.

TUDO nesse jogo é ótimo.
História, personagens, música, gráficos e tudo.
O único ponto fraco é não ter vindo pro ocidente oficialmente.

Oh my fucking god.

If you put AA2-2 in the first game (The weakest case here IMO) It would STILL be the second best case in that game. I cannot underestimate how much of a true step up this game is. It's SO GOOD.

wheres investigations 3 capcom

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO, ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS COLLECTION.

And this will be localized for the first time eveeeeeeeerrrrrrr.

I completed this game less than a month before the international rerelease/remaster/translation was announced. I love it so much but it is soooo loong. What the fuck is a Eustace Winner?!

this ones the best game in the whole series

A vast improvement over the first game with only one case that didn't really hold my attention much. Really well written and the fan translation is practically flawless. Definitely one of my favourite AA games.

El mejor juego de la historia

SO peak but SO fucking long. wjen i TELL YOU i was stuck on case 3 for. YEARS. i mean it. and i am still not done (it drags a lil)

This game took me honestly way longer than it should have to finish. At first, I didn't care for it as much as the first Investigations, mainly because the first 2-3 cases seemed to drag on a bit and I didn't find them all that exciting or enjoyable, aside from seeing the bond between characters such as Kay+Edgeworth or Gumshoe and Edgeworth's bonds develop more.

However, that all changed when I got to case 4. This case truly was one of the best cases in the game, everything from its use of the investigation mechanic to the storyline. Case 4 and 5 will definitely be why I come back to this game in the future, because they both are so iconic and speak to the franchise's core messages of believing in yourself, finding the truth and true meaning of justice, and trust.

The latter half of the game was a treat, and I am glad I decided to play the Investigations spinoffs. I loved seeing Edgeworth shine, and I hope we can get more content featuring him as a main factor someday.

While there's some awkwardness with the fan translation, it can't be helped. It's an impressive effort from a fan community. The cases are compelling and I especially loved the 3rd and 4th case. I found the last case to drag and not be all that interesting to solve. It's a damn shame this game never received an official release in English, and the Investigations duology would be greatly served getting a modern release like AA4-6 or The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

As close to perfection as a video game can get.

Certainly better than the first game. I think this is probably the most consistently solid game in the series maybe beating out 3. There's no cases I would say are outright bad. The second case is probably the weakest link, but even then it's important to the overall plot. Something I really like in this game is that every case links to the rest somehow very concretely. Everything has a setup and payoff, there's nothing that goes forgotten really (until the Apollo trilogy, that is lol). The translation was a little amateurish around the start (I counted a good few "It can't be helped"s), but as things went on the only things that were noticeable were formatting issues, which I assume were faults of having to mod the game for the translation anyways. I wonder why this game wasn't translated officially, really. Did the first game not sell well or something? Either way, I think a lot of missteps from the first game are corrected, even though a foreign country is involved one of the first logic chess segments you get to do is about extraterritorial rights, they knew it was a contentious ending for the first game. Speaking of logic chess, it's a fun mechanic, it kind of reminds me of the active debates from Danganronpa but a little less hectic. The first game was missing something like that. There's still plenty of cameos but they feel more deserved than in I1, half the cast isn't callbacks this time! And it actually sets up Edgeworth's character in an interesting way and sets him up for what he would later do in the Apollo trilogy later on. Really wish any of these characters reappeared. Imagine a more mellowed out Kay being Edgeworth's future assistant once she gives up the thief gig eventually (since it implies that she'll do so at the end of the game) like that'd be good, right? I'm not crazy! Or have Debeste cover one of the DLC cases or something to show how he's far more competent as a prosecutor now and has learned to earn his title of The Best. A lot of dropped balls in the series later on. Either way, very good, I liked it a lot, and knowing the future of the series I wish they did more with the pins it set up.

Can you believe that they made like, a really really good third case? It's probably one of my favorites, it's insane.

The way this game sets up its plot is phenomenal. It's so peak

The tightest narrative in the entire series. Its simply Debeste.
