This game is so fucking good I wish blonde twinks were real

Our beloved monsters - enjoy yourselves.
Arguably the peak of Metal Gear as a story, there isn’t much to say there that hasn’t been said by countless others much better than I ever could, but yeah. Fantastic writing.
Gameplay-wise idk, it plays better than MGS1 in basically every way imo but i think the level design doesn’t really hit as much as i would’ve liked, in that regard i think it also really runs out of steam after a certain boss fight later on.
anyways y’all are weak if you don’t like raiden

amazing game that had a huge impact on me when i had only first watched a cutscene compilation on youtube years ago
regardless i had soooo much more fun w/ this one than mgs1 honestly, but i will forever give kojima the side eye for killing off [ redacted ] like that…

"they wont find me here, they're looking for a DIFFERENT box...."

I can't quite put it into words, but this game means so much to me, I could never do it justice.

my brain just stopped working towards the end 😭

Incredible game, and one that was very prophetic for it's time. It's really subversive, and has a lot of great, impactful, and deep themes. Also has one of the coolest villains in the series. That being said, it's my personal least favorite of the main Solid series (other than maybe V), which really goes to show just how amazing Metal Gear is.

woulda been a 5 if it wasn't for Raiden's moaning all the time

This is the best game i have ever played. Genuinely everything about this game is incredible. I'm not going to say much about why I love this game, but it has to do with the fantastic plot, and how much attention to detail this game has. (If you haven't, you GOTTA play Metal Gear Solid 2 PLEASE)

The main differences between this version of the game and the original is the addition of a ton of side content. 500+ vr missions, a new difficulty, and skateboarding, just to name a few!

MGS2 is the peak of metal gear gameplay to me… it expands upon the last entry’s mechanics just enough but doesn’t go too far like 3 does. the story’s ending is beautiful & theres huge amounts of replay value. raiden & dead cell are excellent.

only negative IMO is the cutscenes dumping too much info on you all at once sometimes. i could come up with nitpicks if i really tried but i love everything else too much to remove half a star.

she is perfect. (to me)

Quem deu aula de história americana e sociologia contemporânea pro Kojima. É um gênio não tem jeito.

"Raiden sucks, this story is too complicated!"

"BEST GAME EVER!"

This game almost seems to play by its own rules, both in terms of gameplay and story. The world you play is in, all things considered, extremely restricted and specific. How you use your tools and beat bosses feels similar too, but how the game actually recognizes those creative choices and uses it to tell its story is a one-of-a-kind experience.

There's something very unique to be found here, but I don't think it's going to be for everyone. I also think that there is a fair share of situations where the solution feels somewhat unintuitive to execute and perhaps a few beats (especially towards the middle) where the story kind of steps over itself, which is a shame, given that it's a very quick and interesting story that it tells. However, these don't detract that much from the experience that you won't feel compelled to finish it. Garnished with a stealth gameplay that is both iconic and hilarious, and you'll probably find yourself enjoying this game for the vast majority of its runtime.

You'd definitely have to know the person you're recommending this to, tho.

saucy jack debuts on the big screen

Scary how well this game aged…
The pinnacle of the Metal Gear series, a perfect sequel and my favorite game.

Take everything MGS1 did and make it even better, to the gameplay, the fantastic graphics, a hell of a soundtrack (Yell Dead Cell is stuck on my brain 24/7) and the peak writing, MGS2 redefined for me what a sequel should be, taking every single advantage and opportunity of being one to further strengthen its core themes.

i told ya i loveeed the 4th wall breaks in the MGS1 review… but holy shit they went all out in this one, pulling every single dirty trick they could just so the player can feel as confused and disoriented as Raiden.
The player himself was involved in MGS1 but in this one? We are playing as Raiden and we are quite literally Raiden, the rookie who got just got done playing MGS1 through VR missions and is “ready for the real thing”.

A DUD⁉️

Amazing game, I probably don't have many words that haven't already been said about this. Keeping this review relatively spoiler free.

While I enjoyed the story of Metal Gear Solid, I felt there were some areas om the gameplay that could have been better, namely some of the endgame encounters. I feel that this game was able to improve some of the issues I had with first game. While the endgame bosses are easier, the games gets an increase in difficulty when it comes to the stealth aspects, with having different enemy types such as cyphers, or the human guards having to check in, which will result in reinforcements if they are unable to. It results in making the sneaking more tense and satisfying when you got through an area without alerting anyone.

I think the way the game goes into its themes of Legacy, Passing Ideas to the next generation, and One's Identity is really interesting, and explores the positives and negatives with each of these themes. The characters are also very fun and interesting, I think Raiden was a good protagonist to have that contrasted with Solid Snake visually and personality wise. The antagonists were also very interesting while also having that Kojima charm of being crazy conceptually (E.G. Having an overweight explosives expert called "Fatman").

I admittedly did not say a whole lot in this review but it's mostly because there's not much I could say that hasn't been said already about this title without just spoiling things outright. This game is worth going through Metal Gear Solid to play this.

Pretty great narratively, but I'm not a big fan of some of the boss sequences.

i first beat this game when i was 7 years old as one of my first ever video games and i think that is the sole catalyst to why literally everything is wrong with me

Metal Gear Solid 2 I feel like was a game I didn't give a fair chance when I first played it. I enjoyed the game, thought it was fun, but I feel like I didn't give myself the full experience going through it like I did with its predecessor. After revisiting the game this year, I can definitely say that this game is an excellent game, lots of fun exploring Big Shell and the Tanker, especially when trying to up the difficulty along with turning off the radar. I may not be good enough to beat the game without the radar yet, but that goal really keeps me going for the game. The sneaking in this game is quite good too, gives many options to try to slip past the guards undetected and become the true FOXHOUND agent you were trained (in simulations) to be. Give this game a chance, and you might just be surprised.

It's only natural that the most profound game i've ever played is the one with the white-haired twink who get's his balls grabbed.

would've been 5 if the controls weren't dogshit

Some of the VR missions were miserable, but satisfying to pass in the end. Game was amazing too amd had loads of replayability

Perhaps the best narrative ever spun on the PS2; Metal Gear Solid 2 works as both a celebration of, and a cautionary tale of the information age we are currently living in.
Going in, I had an idea about what the game was going for, but to my surprise, it wasn't as cynical as I'd feared.
No, this game is as hopeful as it is critical of our behavior as human beings.

I'm unsure I have the ability to properly put into words what this game means to me without sitting here for more than a couple of hours just thinking about what to say.

It's a good game, and you should play it.
