great gameplay, didnt give af about the story except for that one part when there is an outbreak on the base and u have to kill ur own people, open world part was meh but i like how it made infiltration on enemy camps completely up to you, like you can enter it from any side, i think i finished with all side ops and main ops done i dont remember well it was like 5 years ago

2020

after beating a few runs i started playing more for characters and less for the rogue-like gameplay which is impressive because i am usually a gameplay lover, anyway its fun im just inconsistent at the ending of the runs and with no way to "practice" with out like a 30 minute run i kinda just got bored of it but its still great and i recommend any who havent played it to try

the final boss is amazing just wish there wasn't allat backtracking with the torches

Stupid snake scared me so hard i fell of my chair

i added up all my hours and its 2556 💀

wish i could play this irl but i dont have any chairs

The Cabaret Club minigame was peak gameplay,
Story - at points weird, like there are a lot of questionable choices the characters make that further the narrative that kinda breaks my immersion (some examples off the top of my head are when lao gui shoots majima and awano sacrifices himself when awano falls over after the #1 hired assassin doesn't shoot majima and sits there and waits for awano to get up before firing again, or later in the fight when he fucking throws his gun instead of reloading) but as a whole the story was lovable and fun to follow along with

Gameplay -Great but with some criticisms especially after fighting Kuze for the fucking 19th time where he overdoses on 90 pounds of steroids and shrugs off your punches like your fucking hands are made of clouds, on that note I usually play on higher difficulty but I found it more fun this time around to play on normal both because I didn't really want to tryhard this game and because it felt like there was no real "parry" system that would have helped me like the gameplay more, as for the good parts i love bashing peoples heads in with the beast style (which was honestly op if an enemy is knockable you can trap them in an infinite combo of knockdown -> grab -> kicks which you can do to the final boss) as for majima he was amazing at fighting because of the long ass batswing combo and the breakdance thing that lasts a millennia, deals hella damage, and is so low swinging that you literally dodge counterattacks, i dont think i ever had to restart a boss with him and i rarely healed, the bosses themselves were all good though the best has to 100 percent be kiryus final boss as after you cheese him with an infinite combo he goes into phase 2 and we start bashing eachothers heads in with chains, peak gameplay, all-in-all the combat is fun but not the best part of the game and can definitely be expanded on better

Sidequests/minigames- Best part of the game no question they offer a lot of content to the game without feeling like just "extra gametime" usually if i found a minigame I like it would replace the game until i beat it some standouts were the cabaret club and karaoke but i can see myself getting addicted to all of them if i could (side note this made the ending really funny as majima would just wipe the floor with everyone because of how overpowered he was but Kiryu got his ass handed to him)

As a whole, it was fun but not perfect and I look forward to seeing how the next 2 games expand on this in both gameplay and story and i recommend this game despite how much it seemed that i ripped into it in this review

great game but gets grindy sometimes yk
