First of all, the sequel has the same basics and gameplay loop as the first game and the Miles Morales game. But the variety and repetition of side missions is better adjusted than in the previous games. I think the story of the first game is still the best in the series. But with the little innovations and mechanics they added, I would say this is by far the best game in the series (although I don't know if Miles Morales can be considered part of the main game).

Actually, the opening part of the game was not bad at all. It has two very big problems: First, the combat system is flawed. Whenever you perform an attack, your character moves a step or two away, making it difficult to get into position during the fight. The second big problem is that in a game based on patience and timing, enemies come at you in crowds and cause chaos. Other than that, the level designs and dmg feedback are well above average.
