Went into it with zero expectations. I actually played this game thinking it would be a decent at best experience so i can jump back into the Yakuza series once more, to avoid getting burned out. boy was i wrong, this game deserved every second I've given to it and stands alone as a beautiful game that broke the ceiling for me, ESPECIALLY with such low expectations. it surprised me. a pleasant surprise it was indeed. I'd recommend this platformer to anyone. Story is simple but touching. artstyle and the atmosphere and the lore are gorgeous. paired with a killer OST it really did give me chills alot of the times. great game. absolutely beautiful.
wellp, i could go on and on about the story and the cheesy lovey dovey "let's makeout because this happens in real life right?" but I certainly can't be f*ked to.
What i WILL say is the Soundtrack slaps, and so does the antagonist of this game, Ryuji. i will FOREVER remember this man and how he is right next to Nishiki as my favorite antagonists in all of Yakuza. this man was the only thing that made me cry this whole game and I definitely ain't ashamed to say it. what a MAN'S MAN. I respect him. and of course love him. :)
Combat was fun of course but a little lacking in versatility when it comes to heat actions and variety. Sub stories were either REALLY GOOD or just "eh"
That said, it was great. Ruuji definitely made this game for me. other wise? I'd non-stop rant about the cheesiness and "omg he was there?" writing decisions.
I tend to forget at times that Yakuza games as much as I love em...i sometimes focus too much on the thing that makes up like 30% of the game for me, all the SIDE CONTENT. whether it be substories, mini-games, KARAOKE. KARAOKE. oh and also KARAOKE.
I can't stress how much Karaoke ups the score for me on this game. I f*king LOVE this shit so much. they DOUBLED the effort on karaoke in this game. Majima's "As long as you're happy" aswell as Kiryu's "Pride from despair" and the GORGEOUS ehm....respectable actresses performed beautifully with their songs :)
Do you even understand....how painful it is....to invite Majima and he sings HIS song...and for me to let Kiryu sing "Tonight"?
Just finished Majima Saga. so imma TRY not to be biased here. whoever's ACTUALLY reading ofc, spoilers.
I think the combat was a little too minimal EVEN for a side story. gameplay felt like a drag for the FIRST TIME IN YAKUZA HISTORY for me. but it is what it is. Soundtrack was nice AKA his fight theme. i dig it. and as for STORY well....let's just say i predicted every single occurrence that happened in this short story. and i'm a f**king dumbass. says alot, ay? 'nuff said.
But i tell ya it was absolutely worth it....why? I'm sure we all know. it pains me to come out of this with a heavy heart and tears welling in my eyes...but I'm thankful that it was told in such beautiful fashion. not cheesy...not out of characters...not fan service-y....just beautiful. way better than watching those two "teenagers" make out next to a freshly deceased (sexy) body.
