2023 Played

All the games I played in 2023 with the top 15 or so sorted into a ranking

Marvel's Midnight Suns
Marvel's Midnight Suns
This game is everything I could ever want in a video game and found me right when I needed a turn based game that I could drop at any moment while taking care of a baby. The story was perfectly serviceable, but the true stars of the show are the shockingly incredible combat, and the relationships between the heroes I know and love. I LOVED being able to take my favorite heroes out on different trips and found myself using almost every character in the large roster. This game hit on every note for me. I even loved the small bit of exploration around the grounds. It was rudimentary, but I loved it.

Chess.com
Chess.com
I got into chess in November because of a book, The Wandering Inn. One of the characters really likes chess and it gave me a hankering to play some chess. I am hooked. There is so much room for me to improve, and the competitive scene is incredibly interesting and exciting to watch. I would love to look back on this and see if I stick with Chess and how good I end up becoming. For now, I play a game or two at work every day.

3

Astral Ascent
Astral Ascent
This game was recommended on Into the Aether late in the year, but it hit hard for me. The soundtrack is maybe the most beautiful game soundtrack I have ever heard, the combat and movement feel fluid, polished, and responsive, and the character relationships, while not hades level, are enough to keep me coming back for more.

4

Monster Hunter Now
Monster Hunter Now
I have a complicated relationship with Monster Hunter Now, but I can't deny that for the first 2 months after it's release I played it every day, and it got me out of the house on walks EVERY. DAY. That is a huge deal. I will definitely keep playing this game as they tweak the progression to feel a little better. The most important part is that it gets me out of the house and for that I am grateful.

Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
I loved Baldur's Gate 3. This game is literally made for me in every way. It just doesn't fit into the "Dad Zone" where I find myself these days. I had one glorious weekend with it, and I will never forget the joy we had together, but eventually we must all go back to our families and our lives.

6

Remnant II
Remnant II
I loved the first game and this is basically just the first game, but better. Unfortunately I don't have any friends to play it with, and I am a dad now so I just don't have time for a game that I can't pause at any moment. I love these games though.

7

Endless Dungeon
Endless Dungeon
I absolutely loved Dungeon of the Endless. For the first 20 or so hours I had a blast! The characters were fun and the new gameplay felt much more fun than the old top down that was literally just about room dancing every fight and having a good operator. However, I eventually started to feel it's lack of depth. Overall, I would love to sit down and play this coop with a friend, but I don't think it has the depth necessary to keep me coming back to it solo. The fixed enemy spawns, fixed lighting, and map design really hold back how deep the strategy can get

8

Vampire Survivors
Vampire Survivors
Vampire Survivors hit me hard at the end of last year and it was the perfect game for the first month or two of wesleys life. Eventually I saw everything that was out at the time and was able to pull myself away. However, up until that point I was absolutely glued to this simple game of killing hordes of png's.

9

Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush
This is another "This game is made for me but doesn't fit my lifestyle" i LOVED this game. It was fun, the music was incredible and it really induced the flow state so well.

10

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
I just started playing this last night, but I love cyberpunk 2077 and this fixes it and adds more so I am sure it will be great

11

Peglin
Peglin
Only been playing this for a week. I have never played peggle before, but this was recommended and I wanted to give it a try. I am struggling as I learn the basics of peggle, but the better I get at peggle the more I love Peglin. Plus, I can play it at work in between tasks which gives it a big bump.
