IT'S THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER WANTED TO TALK TO ALL THE NPCS

the dialog is always so short, funny and yet creative that i couldn't resist it!

although it is really a short game, i much prefer an experience like this, where i loved every single moment of it, than a longer and not so fun all the time.

and as i read in a review, DON'T YOU DARE REDUCE THE PIXEL CHUNKINESS SETTING!!!!!! that is a really important part of its visual charm!

2020

simply the most brilliant 2D game in terms of gameplay that i have played in ages

i finished all the standard tracks; i'm going to play the dlc at some point

so what can i say about the game? the only reason i can't call it a perfect video game as an entertainment medium, and thus the best mario kart game, is because of the deluxe edition

well, technically it is, considering that the deluxe isn't really mario kart 9, although the extra content and the new item feature make all the difference to me. the most polished kart game ever.

and even though the anti-gravity sections are gimmicky in a way that doesn't change the gameplay, they're still visually cool and make the experience much more varied in a way that can't be appreciated enough

i know that's probably because of its 3d sandbox nature, yadda yadda yadda, but there's still so much potential to be fulfilled...

there are a lot of ideas out there that people have already made mods for, but they should be in the game officially

for example: better inventory organization, dynamic lighting while holding a torch, a more complex second hand feature, and not that stupid combat system (and to be clear: the previous one was bad, too)

at least its current state is waaay better than it once was. i mean, we would never ever get an update like the cave & cliffs one considering how much freaking slow it is to get any """big""" updates like this

i know, i know i'm (very) stupid, considering it took me a few >>hours<< to beat the main mission - so far i've played it for 21 hours already, and i still have about 19% complete ration

HOWEVER, i can't stand the notoriety this game has gotten and often overlooked is it. i mean, the replayability of the missions & the freedom given to the player are absolutely insane

And even its old expensive launch price, which is the biggest reason for most complaints, was quickly dropped, and it is an phenomenal experience that you can get. it is rare to find this S+ level design + atmosphere in this type of game

also, as i said earlier, the lore doesn't get enough credit for how subtle and yet so aggressive it can sometimes be.

"kojima may not be the best story creator, but he excels at blending the harsh realities of the real world with fantastical elements from fiction." - araújo, canal capslock

i played for a couple of hours and i'm speechless at how well this game has aged; like kojima probably came from the future, because there's no way to explain the fact that it's so much ahead of its time

like having game mechanics that have never been done before; despite being the first to do them, they already came with a great execution; having such complexity, yet it's simple and easy to understand

there are even a few things that a lot of games these days don't seem to get right, like the user interface, and here it's highly functional despite being so minimalist

hell, even the graphics - aside from the lack of mouth animation in cutscenes - it's still one of the few 3d games from that era that i can say still looks great, in that charmless low-poly way, of course

2022

i played for a few minutes just out of curiosity, and i am absolutely amazed at how GORGEOUS this game looks

i may play it later since it seems to require a bit of time from me to fully appreciate it.

i'm impressed with the implementation of the open world and the game loves exploration

my smooth brian held almost nothing when playing this (genuinely i played this for like 30 minutes, and i feel so sorry for this)

i tried to play with my friend... we died almost instantly every time and probably we didn't last more than an hour

but i still had my fun.

unfortunately, i never got the chance to play it with anyone... which is ironic, because you could say that i never really played this game, and you might be right

1991

not gonna lie. it's just lame; probably nothing more than a product of its time...

it's almost funny how much I've played this, it's probably one of my most played genesis games

there is so much charisma and goofines, i love it. it's just a shame how it sucks gameplay/difficulty-wise

this game is crazy in every single aspect of it. i remember when i was a kid i was kinda nitpicking because "it's not a traditional mario game!!"

but after i grew up, I could appreciate it so much. i should play this again sooner or later

it's hard to like this when you know how much better this series has gotten...flat track design is a big no for me
