Hellblade 2 is an improvement of the original, but does fall short in some aspects. It was a difficult sequel to create as a lot of the story regarding Senua in the first game involved the players and the mechanics in there that would be hard to repeat in this one. So because of this they couldn't have as strong of twists and turns in it which ended up creating a more generic story. The game starts strong, showing the fine line between the real world, and the world she sees that mixes with her mental illness. The game then somewhat begins to blunder, and it feels incredibly rushed as it tries to 'trim the fat' so to speak, but it definitely feels like they cut too much. It definitely feels like they are trying to quickly get to the end, and has a lot of filler in regards to the puzzles. The puzzles are just as bad as the original, basically walking around a small area to focus in the right spot. They add almost nothing to the game except making it feel like roadblocks to hinder your progress. The combat was my favorite part of the game even if it is lackluster, with the focus being on dodging and parrying, as well as learning the various enemies attacks. There is a lot more enemy variety with helps, and it decided to have you focus on one battle at a time which I believe was smarter. I also enjoyed how they blended animations together, and had them varied enough to feel natural. The graphics are amazing, and it is one of the few games that really gets facial capture done extremely well. You can see so much emotion in the eyes of all the characters, and their performances are very well done. The music was good as well, but nothing really stuck out to really capitalize on a wonderful moment that I could remember. Short and sweet, but definitely a game that isn't for everyone. I enjoyed my time but I don't think I would play again, and I think it really needed not only much more, but a more interesting climax as well as better puzzles because they were, well, terrible and boring like the original.

+ Fun story with interesting twists and turns, mostly filled with cool characters
+ Great art direction
+ Competent voice acting

- Endings for different characters present minimal differences between them
- Flowchart functionalities are extremely limited, can only jump between specific scenes, which leads to a lot of skipping dialogue
- "Main" ending is an unbelievable cliffhanger

As Dusk Falls is your average visual novel with slightly higher production values that unfortunately never really goes anywhere meaningful. Definitely needed to be longer as the cliffhanger it ends on comes after the biggest revelation in the whole story.

It's up there with the all-time horror greats, it's a goddamn shame we won't see more Evil Within thanks to Microsoft.

Indika is a tough game to flesh out. It’s surreal environments coupled with stylistic fervor for framing scenes makes so much of the game compelling. And its interrogation of religious ambiguities reaches some interesting boiling points. But I also think much of the narrative is bogged down by less than inspired game design, with too few resonant character beats in between too many arduous levels. Still, I appreciate the swing even though the game couldn’t resolve that tension.

(Also, I’ve seen comparisons made about Indika to an A24 movie, and, even though I don’t agree with that - that doesn’t mean anything - I DO think the game is more interested in leveraging film language for its narrative with gameplay secondary)

but kudets, wutsinit? wutsinit? wutsinit?

This was quite disappointing, there's some gameplay upgrades, but nothing that's game-changing. The visuals are insane yes, everything looks crazy good!
The story was very underwhelming, I like what they were going for but the execution was not good at all imo.
Some machines also feel super tanky unless you're using a very specific weapon, it's annoying sometimes.
The gameplay has some new stuff but nothing that really makes the game stand out a lot from the first one.
If you liked the first one then you'll probably enjoy this one too! I did like it to a point, but I think I'd actually replay the first game over this one.

Family returns to find that their dog has caused multi-million dollars worth of damage to their high class home:

"Oh you're such a little stinker!"

What started out great turned out to be a rather repetitive endeavour in terms of gameplay mechanics as the story progressed. Most importantly however, the story completely collapses halfway through. What a shame.

By and large, I think this game is an improvement over Zero Dawn... except for the part that I'd imagine matters most to a lot of players. It feels like Guerrilla focused on adding new ways to play instead of further refining the existing gameplay, and doesn't really do a great job of introducing the player to all these new ways of fighting. Just tosses you a bunch of weirdly-balanced toys and says "have at it!" Still, the story and characters are what I care about the most, and it delivered.
