Tren is pretty fun for a while and it's really well made. A game that I'd like to pop in every once on a while and do a few tracks but couldn't really sit through its entire length.

I've played a few other titles - the engine is very impressive and imaginative but everything felt like a poor copy of a real game.

My hot take is that it would be better without the gimmick.

The level design is strong enough And going through them as a drunkard ragdoll only takes from the experience.

Anyways Human Fall Flat is fun with friends until the headache kicks in and I'll probably still pick this up every now and then.

It's like Alien Swarm but more repetitive and grindy.

Fun with friends for a while.

Rocket League rises above the rest of the eSports scene. It's not a living meta game and it doesn't require encyclopedic knowledge on top of skill.
It's also not a simulation of a real life sport like Fifa that can't really replace the experience of actually playing football.

Rocket League is a sport that is perfectly designed, and can only exist in a digital space.

Like a real sport, you need to learn the basics and then practice by playing different match types and doing drills. Similarly to real sports the meta is very stable - I first picked up the game around 7 years ago when the game was young and while I didn't know what was I doing back then when I returned to it earlier this year the game remained essentially the same.

If I were to return to DotA2 today I'd have to relearn the game from scratch, it's a lot more effort than just shaking off the rust.

The game itself is fun and very satisfying to learn, though I'd recommend doing so with friends who know what they're doing and will offer tips while playing.

The business model is pretty fair - you can't buy power and while significantly slower you still get a bunch of nice cosmetics simply by playing.

A dopamine machine with some sophistication that sinks its claws and fangs into you.

The schtick is that it costs like 4 bucks and not whatever vile freemium scheme its mobile clones use, and that's honestly amazing.

It's better to play Vampire Survivors than to become a whale for some half assed mobile game.

30 minutes runs are way too long, especially since they can be lost with mere seconds on the clock. Every parameter in the game should have been doubled and runs capped at 15.

2018

I'd like it a lot more if it was just a short and sweet mini Zelda. I don't care for the gimmick at all.

Bonus star for how pretty and clean it looks using just two colours. Fantastic artwork!

Aside from the story it's superior in every way but the ludicrous amount of mtx loot box grind combo completely kills it.

Nasty.

Apotheon is pretty good and juicy, shame I can't get into the genre.

If you're a metroidvania fan you should give it a chance!

Combat is pretty bad. Aesthetics are washed out generic anime with no unique personality.

I read that it gets good 30 hours in? That's not a selling point.

A star for pipe smoking samurai dog.

Shelved for now but my initial impression isn't that good - I expected a gardening game but this is more of a Zelda but with an annoying save mechanics.

Also I don't like it when a game presents itself by assaulting you with endless chatter within the first hour.

Get me to whatever the game is as fast as possible, talk to me later and keep it brief.

The aesthetics are a bit of a mess but they're also pretty and charming.

Maybe I'll give it a proper go some day.

The bowling theme is nice but it doesn't add anything. The ball is meek and can't knock anything down besides the pins who acts as just another currency to collect.

It's pretty but it's also just a runner.

Should have played it years ago when I bought it. It looked very fun but nowadays I find it slow and archeic.

Easily the worst puzzle design I've seen. They take forever, they're boring, they rely on dice rolls and random drops, and they're recycled and reused a million times over.

Malcolm's revenge is ambitious in its somewhat non linear/multi solution puzzles that leans in a very early morality system.

It leads to an incoherent experience with a barely functioning plot.

Who is this Malcolm? Why is he so radically different from the first game?
Why is there a laugh track?

What the fucks happened?

The only reason to play this is if you have an affinity for 90s aesthetics.

Music slaps though.

Absolutely lovely experience, It was so fun exploring Alba's world!

Its main appeal are the 60ish birds (and a handful of other animals) that populate the island and breath life into it with unique animations, patterns, and most importantly - sound.

My only complaint is that Alba is essentially a snap like game where you photograph and catalogue birds, but the game cares very little for photography. There's no real album in the game and the catalogue adds a premade photos, ignoring the actual one you took.

Nevertheless it is a rich and vibrant island that anyone should pay a visit.

Very solid mechanics and an addictive loop. However it's filled to the brim with mobile nonsense.

Levels have like 80 waves each. Medium is a slow cakewalk and hard is also a slow cake walk except the last wave is a giant difficulty spike that can one shot you if you're not prepared, and why would you if your defences were flawless up until now?

Wanna try that last wave again? That'll be 400 monkey bucks please.
