This has unjustly faded into indie shmup obscurity but good holy lord was I obsessed with this back in my freeware scavenging days. In its prime the build-your-own-bullet-hell-boss community was coming up with the most insanely clever bosses, stuff that puts those ridiculous Besiege or Tears of the Kingdom contraptions to shame. Impossibly enormous obstacle-course/bullet-hell-deity hybrids that shift and fold and evolve; bosses that must be seen to be believed. Blasting through a boss rush gauntlet to my itunes playlist of cringey techno... geeky teenage bliss. A bit light on shooting mechanics, and some artistic variety would have been nice, but this is still one of the all-time great STG's - in a just world it'd be the genre's Minecraft. Really desperately hope we get something else like it one day.
For whatever reason the acclaim never got me too interested in this, but I turned it on and before I knew it, I'd blasted through the entire thing. Wonderfully paced metroidvania that manages to make mining (a game mechanic I'm not too fond of) propulsive and fun. Probably too short for the amount of upgrades available, but it was nice to play through it in a couple sittings.
One of my favorite discoveries. Extremely cool bite-sized twin-stick shooter/adventure with a fascinating setting - full of mystery and wonder and mesmerizing symbology - and excellent, sparse writing. The Game Boy throwback jank added to the experience tbh, made the whole game feel way more personal. I loved this world for the little bit I got to spend in it. Scumhead is a developer to watch (and seems like a really cool person, too).
