Animal Well is one of the most beautiful 2D puzzle, platformer metroidvania game I’ve played.

The graphics are gorgeous especially the way it works with lighting and all of the tiny details and animation. Even the animation for the main blob thingy and the animals are great as you can see a clear picture of how much care and love has been put into this game.

Also, I like that the platforming and puzzles had a low skill floor but hard to master. This meant even I could get through it, in terms of exploration and progressing. However, it does still feel a tad too difficult for me once you’ve explored to a point where you need to get better at the game. Although, I do have to credit the clever game design of the puzzles as it felt fresh as well as the fact that there is no real combat.

Overall I think if you like platforming, puzzles or metroidvania, then this has the potential to be your game of the year. It is a really excellent game where each aspect has a lot of love, care and thought put into it from the sound design to the custom engine. Unfortunately, it is a tad too hard at times as I’m a terrible platformer gamer and horrible at puzzles, for me to truly love it. Although, I am glad I was able to enjoy it for a good portion of the game despite my lack of ability and I can throughly appreciate the game.
