This would be 5 stars but the PS4 version had audio issues in the videos. Audio peaking and low quality. Enough to be distracting while watching.
I really hope this Gold Series Digital Eclipse is starting with this continues for a long long time. The detailed documentary treatment of an important game that I would have otherwise found obtuse and inaccessible really gives an awesome opportunity to enjoy it instead of pass it over as a relic of the past.
Reading or watching a segment about an early game of Mechners or a prototype and then being able to hope in and play a pic is so cool and really how all game Docs should be. It’s like a compact museum display with documentation, the whole games and prototypes and even interactive displays.
A truly important contribution to game history and preservation.

One of my favorite pitches for a game ever. Get slammed with the devil, drink him under the table and you’re free to go. A lot of the top level story beats are really cool and the aspects of the conceit they choose to focus on are interesting as well. Unfortunately, some of the more interpersonal threads get muddled and the way you navigate the choices feels narrow to the point where you’re just picking flavour text. It’s cool but not quite up to the potential

Surprisingly good. Once you get used to how short the range is on Kong’s punch and the arc in the rock through it’s pretty easy to get around most enemies. It’s a fun time smashing everything on screen to find the hidden doors, until of course one of them boots you back to the first level. Not a bad little game. #Cartsfromthe500yenbin

Trying to give this game a score is a fools errand. The performances, cinematography, and writing are some of, if not the, best in gaming while the gunplay, driving, general control, and every other form of interaction are complete dogshit. This leads to huge highs of intrigue, immediately shot down by actually having to play the game. The game knows that and constantly offers to let you skip the actually game parts. So if the best way to play is to just watch, what the hell am I playing this for? None of that is to even mention that the switch version is the worst”remaster” of a game I’ve ever played. Runs like trash, looks like trash, just a mess all around. All told I still had a good time I think(?). It’s an important game for sure. The ambition is insane and the things it achieve are often unmatched even 10 years later. Oh and fuck the guy and company that made it. Exploitative asshats.
