she unironically slayed the boots house down

I mean, it feels good to play? I can see why this game is so highly regarded but it just didn't do anything for me. Lack of any personality is my biggest gripe.

I don't trust anyone who says this game is better than the first Bayonetta.

Fantastic art style, albeit not a lot of depth, or choice for that matter.

Made me shart my pantalons as a kid.

Suspenseful and eerie, backed up by fantastic visual- and audio design. Unfortunately held back by some immersion-ruining bugs.

Movement and combat feel smooth and satisfying, music is also high-energy to fit the fast-paced tone of the game. Visuals are good but the different areas lack some identity. What kills it for me unfortunately is the repetitiveness of runs, which is something a lot of these indie-roguelites struggle with. I'm not asking for Isaac-levels of variety but some more modifiers besides the same stat upgrades and guns (which aren't immensly useful) would really elevate this game above the dozen other roguelites available. That being said, there's still a good few hours of fun to be had here, despite it's drawbacks.

Very generic setting and visuals, including enemy designs and such. Moment to moment gameplay is okay. Permanent progression is way too aggressive, finishing a run almost exclusively relies on having high enough numbers and not skill.

Not the most creative, but still good fun. Decent variety in items, nice pixel-art and combat feels great. Could benefit from a less generic setting and enemy design. Permanent progression is present but it's not too agrigious, unlike others in the genre, like Rogue Legacy.

I like the setting and the found-footage style horror the game takes inspiration from, but that's about it. The game is tense in the first few hours but just becomes a drag after you enter the courtyard. On top of that the enemy ai is so basic that every encounter plays out almost exactly the same.

This game gives me the same feeling as the old computer games I used to loan out of the library as a kid. Actually interesting characters and music that sounds nostalgic even when you hear for the first time only add to the charm.

Decent atmosphere, but ultimately falls pretty flat. Some mediocre puzzles and a cliché indie-horror game story don't do it any favors.

A bit rough around the edges, but the game is fun enough to warrant your time, and it tries something different, which is much needed in this genre.

2018

The writing, voice acting and art are all top-notch, even if they aren't to my taste. Gameplay itself is just okay. Rooms are very busy visually and too big for their own good. Enemy and boon variety is pretty low, and I found it to be too button-mashy overall. In terms of gameplay, there are far better roguelites out there, although if you place a lot of emphasis on story and characters, it's probably still worth checking out.

One of the, if not the best run-and-hide horror game. The Alien's complex ai makes dying less of a nuisance, since it'll always behave slightly differently, forcing you to think on the fly. Would be perfect if the end didn't drag.
