Summoner Gameing
Anyone who knows me could tell you that the Summoner is one of my favorite classes, when done well. Unfortunately, Summoning is rare to see as its own class and rarer still is a good one. So I've compiled a list of games whose Summoners get my seal of approval.
Some Ground Rules:
-Final Fantasy's "Summon a cinematic" Summoner does not count. Those are just spells with longer animations. (Similar cases in other games are also ruled out)
-"Familiar"-type Summons: Small things that follow you around and do their own thing autonomously (like those seen in the Binding of Issac or similar rougelikes), do not count
-Manual control > Fully autonomous
List ranking is based on how much i like their Summoners specifically, regardless of the quality of the overall product.
ALSO If you know of any games with Summoners that I may have missed, PLEASE aid my endless search.

i feel like its unfair to compare PoE to other games in terms of class quality. but if i didnt have it on this list it would be incomplete

engineer's interactions with items are wholly defined by his sentries, and if you play mobile sentry (read: correctly) the character builds and play in ways i really like.

GOD i love divinity. vanilla summoner is a bit iffy though, scaling is a little poor and earlygame is pretty weak. plus summons dont get too many skills and infusions seem somewhat wasteful for how disposable incarnates are below 10 Summoning.

its ok. (<-girl who has never had their main character be a summoner)

summoner is so janky in this game its actually funny. fun class though its an interesting addition to a comp

yeah its ok

both Trainer and Summoner are good fun, especially together. some rings sound really stupid when paired together and i like that. infinite lifesteal forever.

beastmaster is fun! the best summoner ive seen in looter-shooters since most are temporary summons (IF they even have any.). will be a miracle if we see anything like beastmaster pets ever again, just as a mechanic

V makes me wish for a game that doesnt exist. and maybe never will.

ToME lives in the same camp as PoE, but in the other direction. it's got so much going on i dont feel like i can accurately rate class quality as a whole. summons feel a bit underwhelming due to their autonomy though

survivors-likes dont really have summons in them (since they're already auto) and the ones that do are kinda half cooked. HoT doesnt fix any of these issues but its fine. its ok.

necromancer is pretty alright but this games brainless so. make of that what you will. builds different from the other classes at least.

this ones here for the sake of completeness. being the game's central gimmick, the creatures you control are just ok. the gameplay isnt really the point anyway its trying to tell its story.
