York, having lived once before in Third Dynasty Egypt as the lover of a priest's daughter (was he an alternate persona for her as he is for Zack?), is reborn as a crude water-spirit. Nourished physically and intellectually by the unseen player-character (is this a young Zack?), he is able to survive his precarious infancy and return to the Forest.
I have no idea what happens in this one I dropped it after it was clear it wasn't going to get less racist
York helps Zach to overcome the Red Tree, and with it the traumatic loss which has left him unable to face the world directly. Zach and the investigation no longer need him, and like Kyle McLaughlin's light beam parasite in The Hidden, he goes where he's needed - in this case, the arms of the five eagerly heterosexual ghosts who died that their boyfriend might score with a girl from Seattle.
Zach, having survived long into the distant future thanks to technological advancements which allow the wealthy and powerful to prolong their natural lifespans (Human Plus?), calls upon York's help once again to put a stop to the greatest threat since the Red Seeds case: the unfettered rise of interplanetary capitalism and the erosion of state power by private enterprise.
