Fantastic game, improves on it's predecessor in almost every way. Combat is just as weighty and satisfying whilst branching out in many natural ways. Art design and visuals were top notch, especially for a cross-gen title. Enemy variety was SO MUCH BETTER, no more trolls! Mobility has improved as well, allowing you to use the blades to maneuver more quickly; though it still feels somewhat restrictive, no jump button or anything.

Only big problem holding it back is that this story very clearly started as a trilogy. The first game was a slow burn, methodically introducing a small cast of characters and thoroughly fleshing them all out. In sharp contrast, Ragnarök railroads new character after new character down your throat as it rushes to conclude the Norse saga, forcing them all to share one game's worth of screen time. As a consequence, it was difficult to really get invested in them like I did the original cast. When Brok died, my jaw dropped. When Freyr died, I hardly blinked. That's no fault on the actors or writers, who all did a remarkable job; that's just what happens when you try to cram two games worth of storytelling into one. There really should've been a middle game that focused on Thor as the antagonist, that would've been awesome :(

A beautifully haunting depiction of the irrationality, guilt, and self-destruction of grief.
