Didn't remember much about the original game even though I played it, but this remake is absolutely amazing.

The plot in this is pretty simple and straightforward, unlike its sequel, but this game really shines in its gameplay. They added so much QoL stuff from the laters entries plus some extra additions (like a dojo for Exp farming or the fact you can now see all of the entities onn the map) which, tho some may consider them to be ruining the experience, I thought they were great features in a genre that can easily become extremely infuriating for the dumbest reasons.

I initially thought the artstyle was ugly at first, but as time went on it grew on me and I now think it's on par with the great pixel art of the original games. Unfortunately, I know it's not a high budget game on the Switch, but there was some instances had HUGE lagging issues which extremely weird knowing what type of game this is. I also noticed huge input delays during the whole game so beware if you're allergic to that, and I know some people are.

The music is great too.

So overall I'd highly recommend this game, but still wait for a drop in price. Even though I loved it, $60 is way too much for this game. You can try out the demo version if you want but it didn't capture at all what the game was good at imo.

Even if they're widely regarded as good entries in the Pokémon franchise, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum felt very much in line with what has been done before in the series. So after the excellent Gen 2 remakes, Game Freak decided to shake things up and made the best entry in the series.


Pokémon Black and White are what I would qualify as a soft-reboot, as it is a continuation in the Pokémon lore and gameplay, but tries and succeed to innovate by taking much more needed inspirations from other JRPGs. Therefore, the focus on the series has now shifted toward the stories and characters, rather than exploration and discoveries.

The region is now much more linear the previous ones, but provides an endearing plot with more characters having actual backstories and motivations. For example, the gym leaders actually help the player during our journey and our rivals have different goals (Bianca progressively becomes a scientist while Cheren tries to become a great trainer).

Now as for the story, it is the imo the best the series has to offer, even if it's still pretty basic. The game mainly tackles the theme of opinions/difference point of views, by confronting the protagonists against Team Plasma, a group of individuals believing Pokémon should be free from trainers and that everyone should agree with them. N is introduced as a new rival and is undoubtably the most important character in the game, because of his origins and arc, which I won't spoil.

As for everything else, the game takes and improve the 2.5D aesthetic of the last games but visually shines during battles with the gorgeous 2D animated and expressive sprites for ALL of the Pokémons. The combats are now really snappy unlike the 4th gen games which were notorious for being too slow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gCvQiFUyC4), and EVERY SINGLE 151 MONSTERS BEFORE POSTGAME ARE BRAND NEW. That last point is absolutely nut. The OST and postgame are also great as usual.


Overall, Pokémon Black and White are perhaps the best game in the series and an amazing way to get into the franchise. They marked the start of the 5th generation of Pokémon games which is also unfortunately widely considered to be the last great gen before a rapid decline of quality started to plague the series.

This game would be much better if they put the focus on mastering the techniques and mechanics this type of game can have, rather than the 2D stuff or the weird-ass minigames. I know they rushed it in order to mark the hedgehog 20th anniversary, but I wish they made some small but meangingful changes, like not handing S ranks like it's nothing or even tweeking classic sonic momentum which was terrible and was what ruined his levels imo.

But even then, I still had a ton of fun collecting concept arts, listening to the gorgeous soundtrack and most importantly replaying the 3D levels and perfecting my time even when the game didn't reward me for that.

It's also only $5 during every steam sales so go for it I'd say.

Ori and the Blind Forest is a really great experience.

It is a solid metroidvania with a protagonist that is a blast to control and an absolutely stunning artstyle. However the checkpoint system and the weird fire shooting mechanic weren't that good. I also thought the OST was kinda whatever and I didn't quite get the ending when I first played it, but those are just nitpicks.

Despite its flaws, Ori and the Blind Forest still is a game worth playing but could have been so much more without them.

Don't tell me it's been 4 years already.
