Compared to mario party 1, 2 is a much more refined and complete experience compared to it and would bring a lot of staples to the series that future games would improve. the boards are great but the minigames are kinda meh and i dont get this ones reputation as best in the series, still though, good game and i wont pass up on playing it, always a good time

the true definitive n64 mario party experience, great boards, solid minigames along with being one of the most strategic and wacky games in the series, theres dumb shit like reverse shrooms being broken af for boo steals and some items but this is a quintessential multiplayer game and one of the best on n64
2002
this game is so flawed like its crazy, theres a ton of questionable board design choices, items are not as diverse as 3, and theres less minigames. and yet despite all of that, this game still manages to be an extremely fun entry in the series that is one of my favorites with its phenomenal minigames and overall super fun and even further refined board gameplay

peak mario party, you can't get any better. the best balance of amazing boards and minigames, hugely improved item system, a day and night system that changes the way you approach the maps (and even some of the minigames) everything just works and i find myself revisiting this one all the time, a true multiplayer classic, my favorite in the series

im gonna be honest, this game hella turned around for me recently, its flawed out the ass and has so many design choices i genuienly cant fucking stand
but once you get into it, get into the nitty gritty of combat and actual exploration, its truly something special, combat is a ton of fun, exploration is fun, the world building is spot on, great main party, i could go on
but then i remember you have to trudge through 20-25 hours of boring ass filler tutorials with some incredible moments sprinkled out here and there until the game decides that you can actually have fun now and enjoy it
good game, worth playing, but jesus christ they fucked up the pacing and tone in the first few chapters
