@skeezel i guess my thing is that the thing that spurs on a world without pureblooded japanese being ww2 just feels very not great. granted i did not finish the games so its possible they talk about this more but the sheer vitriol toward japanese and none of it directed toward germany/the NAZIS is a really hard pill to swallow. like given the actions in history i don’t think its a great idea to make the japanese so cartoonishly discriminated against, if this took place after an imaginary war i would have no problem with it/would have finished it by now. ive played higurashi/umineko/higanbana/ciconia/iwaihime, i’m aware of perspective of narrator in his works for sure, but this is just a bit much for me. especially because (as far as i have read) they dont really condemn japanese actions, i know perspective of narrator can play into that, but even sayo goes “incest is wrong and this is fucked up” at least one point. rgd focuses more on a general “war is bad for the soliders who get ptsd” (i agree with this) and the one instance of actual warcrime mention is “ohhh noo he only ACCIDENTALLY gassed those chinese!!!!” like they dont even go into detail about how japanese occupation was a seriously fucked up part of the war even a little bit to at least make some of the vitriol against the japanese make a bit more sense.

the most amusing one to me is that heroes seemingly killed your family in front of you as a child. meanwhile it's one of my top favorites

i think it's funny how almost-exactly our taste lines up for the first four of these compared to most the rest
