Arguably a badly aged series, but one that (as someone who had never had an enjoyable time mindlessly doing grindy games) I found wholly enjoyable. It has the flaws of your average PS2 JRPG of the time, but I feel that because of the way the exp works I could just generate a custom world, blow through that in 30 min, and then do something else. Essentially, bless my precious steam deck.

This game is quite the repetitive mashup of gimmicks and ideas, but it has a charm unlike any other game I've played in a while. I love the character designs, too!
I remember playing this whole game in like 18 or so hours (realtime) while over at my grandparents. I stayed up all night and when I got stuck I followed a GameFAQS walkthrough on how to progress. Definitely one of my favorite game stories of all time, and that music is just unbelievably good.

This game honestly is amazing just because I can bring my PS Vita with me and pick it up at any time (thru adrenaline). Even though I have a steam deck playing a game like this portably is a great experience. I do, however, think this game's combat is flawed, especially the diversity of fights. The story also gets more and more boring as you keep entering fights. Never enough to bore me, but when you have to redo some of the bossfights it can get kind of miserable. Also, the side content is such a slog that I would recommend anyone playing this game to wholly skip every single one. They never have that uniqueness in writing that allows the main games' side quests to be so unique and dynamic.

Wholly enjoyed, and the combat gets more fun the longer you play (like kiwami 1), but I just didn't like how much slower the combat feel was when I played it after kiwami 1. This game certainly has a lot of content to mess with, and I wholly enjoyed the story.
