Prehistoric egg-blasting fun

Absolutely incredible and without a doubt one of the best FF games (and games in general) ever made. Also, it gave me probably my fave video game character of all time and that is Vivi. He is precious.

Spoilers???

I do like this game a lot but I think it's overrated as far as DQ games go. Admittedly I have only played 6, a bit of 7 (I was playing on my 3DS but my shoulder buttons were pretty much busted so I stopped playing soon after I recruited Ruff), 8 and 9 besides this one so my experience with the series is somewhat limited, however I think it's enough to say that this isn't the magnum opus of the series in my humble. For me, that'd probably be 8.

That being said, the characters are a lot of fun, the animation is beautiful, the voice acting is fantastic and I enjoyed it enough to see it through to the end (with the exception of the third act. I won't give anything away but I feel like just mentioning it is enough to be considered a spoiler, hence the warning. Anyways, third act seemed stupid so I didn't do it and if you've played that far, you know what I'm talking about). Also, the hero's Luminary powers were kind of OP and could do pretty much anything the game wanted him to. There's a lot of that in this game. Hell, there's even a bit where the party escapes certain death with what can only be described as the power of friendship.

I'd recommend this game, but not above 8 (best I've played), 9 (very close second, seriously I had over a thousand hours on that game as a kid... Switch remake when) and 6 (very fond memories of staying up late to play this).

This game is the only thing I can confidently say I'm good at

I mean, it's alright but it's a bit cringe. Definitely not the worst game I've ever played but arguably the worst fifty dollars I've ever spent. It's way overpriced considering you can get much better, longer yaoi games for a fraction of the price, and I honestly find this line on the developer's website a tad amusing:
"BLits seeks to grow by always putting its content over profit and financial gain."
Like... okay, sure, it's bright and flashy and pretty, you put a lot of effort into the GUI and dare I say you were even passionate about it but $49.99? Really, BLits?

I don't wanna shit on this game too much because like I said, it's not the worst game ever and it did have some real love and effort put into it. It's just a bit cringe, very overpriced, low-stakes, difficult to take seriously and it has such an insufferably, unrealistically optimistic protag that I wanna punch him in the face.

I'm giving it a 4.5 and not a 5 because, while I do love what ACNH has become, I didn't love it as much as I thought I would when it first came out due to all the missing content. I love creativity in games and no game has let me be more creative than this, and since the mahoosive update I think I can safely say it's the best, most freedom-granting game in the series, but I think this should serve as a lesson to future developers to not release a game they know is unfinished. I know they had to delay it once already but it was still kind of a downer.

Oh, well, I don't want this to be too negative since as I said, I do love what the game is now, so I'm gonna end on a high note and say that I absolutely recommend both the game and its DLC. It's easy to get burnt out from both since you'll be pretty much addicted when you first start playing but after that burnout (which for me was about year and four months, oops), it's nice to just return to it when you feel like it and not feel any pressure.

As someone who values story over gameplay, I didn't mind at all that the game is mostly just dialogue, especially considering how amazing said dialogue is at perfectly capturing every mood. This game is funny, tense and gut-wrenchingly emotional all at once. I've laughed and cried at games before but I've never burst out laughing or ugly-cried at them, until this.

Additionally, every line from the protagonist is your choice and it doesn't feel like any possible option was overlooked. I also love games with lots of choices so this was great for me.

This game honestly feels like a classic and I can't believe how recent it is. I have no doubt that it'll stay with me for a very, very long time. Hands-down one of the best games I've ever played.
