2021

This game felt weird to play. Maybe it was the little amount of time spent with it but I didn't feel like there was a clear intention for constructing synergies or good builds. It kind of felt like I could throw anything together and I would likely not suffer from it. Because of this it kind of lost my attention.

A cute little twin stick shooter. Free, so why not give it a try? I might re-review this because I have not played the game since its content overhaul in 2021.

A well polished roguelike about collecting loot and selling it on the open market. I enjoyed the first dungeon and its boss but afterwards I felt like I was struggling to find a reason to continue playing. A bit too repetitive for my tastes, and the shop keeper aspect is often boring.

I didn’t really understand how Castlevanias were an essential part of the fan genre “metroidvanias” until I played this game. The exploration always feels fresh and exciting and the map size was significantly larger than I was expecting. I really enjoy RPG mechanics this game employs such as exchangeable gear and a stat based system, and I think it would be cool for more modern metroidvanias to explore that. The combat feels really tight and I love the magic system. I haven’t finished it, but when I do I’m looking forward to playing the other two games in the GBA trilogy and Symphony of the Night.

Like SupCom2 but with less polish but more systems. Best played with a patient group of friends.

Just started this one but I’ve got a good feeling about it. The magic is really organic and there are plenty of unique combos to cast interesting spells. Use elemental combos to your advantage, or cast a lighting spell when you’re wet. Very fun with a group of friends.

I will beat this game eventually. Not today, not tomorrow, but eventually. I actually do enjoy the narration quite a bit, and it’s oddly fitting having recently been through some sorrow in my own life in a way that feels like starting over.

A visual novel in the style of 2008 Facebook. The ability to explore links gives a depth to the story that adds a layer of exploration to the decision making process. I enjoyed the story quite a bit.

I’ve just started playing this game and I can already tell it’s gonna be one of my favorite roguelikes. The RPG mechanics are very fun and the item variety is fantastic. Each of the characters offer their own twist, but I’d like to see more characters that fundamentally alter the gameplay in some way (maybe I just haven’t unlocked them yet). The meta progression is a nice touch and I like how you can disable them at any time if you want to increase your difficulty.

A good game with a nice polished feel, but the core gameplay just isn’t for me. As someone with very little turn based combat strategy experience it wasn’t able to hold my attention. I’ve come back to it three or four times now but it just never clicks. The story is really uninteresting as well. Great art tho.

A silly rhythm game with a corny sense of humor and a surprising amount of “hidden” content. The trading card system wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be, but grinding to craft 7 hotdog cards to fight the final boss was. I want to S rank every song but I doubt that will happen. The addition of new songs every once in a while keeps me coming back.

A prequel to the first game, this one offers everything the original had going for it and more. If the original wasn’t free I would say just play this one, but it is, so why not play both?

A cute indie rpg about nursing people back to health (I think). It has a shmup style combat system and a marriage system which allows you to have unique abilities. Plenty of secrets to explore.

The only thing I can think when I play this game is “who the hell hit me, where?!!!” Regardless, I enjoy storming the battlefield with my friends and dying on the front line.

A fun 2d tac shooter based on verticality. No, I didn’t think I would ever say those words in that order either.
